The Virginian Apartments was once an elegant Victorian hotel dating back to 1918 where early Seattle pioneers stayed. Very little has changed in the building. The original granite entry between the school house lamps now has a gold leaf silhouette of Benjamin Franklin tipping his hat to guests as they arrive. The mahogany grand staircase, ornate mirror and original lamp fixtures are still there. Yes, there are even the old ice chests with wire shelves used for dishes now, and deep "soaking" tubs.

The apartment and Steve: for the price, it is in the perfect location in Seattle. I was not able to meet Steve in person, mainly because I had no issue with the apartment. He gave enough information to get the keys.
The bed: like other comments, springy, but 2 persons were able to sleep in it (a little bit "wavy" when both moved).
The amenities: good, as least the bathroom, I did not use the kitchen.
The building: perhaps the main issue: during our first night, someone knocked (banged) on the neighbor's door. It was really really noisy, So keep your earplugs next to your bed....
Staying at the Virginian was a very good experience. We had some issues with our flights and Steve was very flexible with our check in which was great! The room is exactly as advertised and the location can't be beat. We would definitely stay here again.
The Virginian #206 is large and very convenient to downtown, Pike Place Market, and loads of restaurants and bars. Unfortunately, the refrigerator is full of previous guests' food and water (not a problem, I just chose not to use it at all, as some of the food was looking scary - including the water.)
Be aware that the hot water is backwards. I spent ten minutes running the hot water on the hot side trying to get it to warm up and all I got was ice cold water, so my first night I freshened up in the bathroom sink. I contacted Steve the second day to ask about the hot water and he said it was backwards, so I was properly clean by day two.
I don't know how to work the heater. I set it dead center and left it alone. I also didn't ask, so it isn't Steve's fault I had a semi cold apartment. I closed the doors - the place is bigger than I expected - and only warmed the main room.
I probably wouldn't stay again, but I was already exhausted and frustrated upon arrival and I know that attributed to my less than ideal experience. The building is beautiful and Steve was receptive to my questions and concerns when I brought them up. I'm the type not to ask for help. I'm giving the place a three because of all the questionable items in the fridge and the hot water trouble. Most people my age can work a wall heater with no trouble and I never called, so that has nothing to do with this review except to mention it was confusing for someone who has grown up with central heating.
I'd still recommend a stay. Good service and large rooms for this price are hard to come by. Thank you, Steve.
Aucun problème pour récupérer les clés, Steve a été très accueillant. L'appartement est très bien situé, en plein cœur de Seattle. L'appartement est calme, en revanche le lit n'est pas confortable.
Everything was as expected, location and price can't be beat. Bed not too comfortable and hot water takes a long time to make it's way to the faucet, but if you are looking for an inexpensive place to stay in the heart of Seattle this will work well for you.
For the price you can't really beat this. The location is great, the room is clean and as pictured.
Such a great location! Seamless and awesome stay with Steve!
Great location, easy to access on second floor. Spacious room. Bed was a bit too soft and springy for us. Good value.
This was our second stay at The Virginian, but the first time staying in #206. Steve was a great host, and very responsive both pre- and post check-in. The apartment was tidy, though the kitchen sink and bathtub are both in need of a serious scrubbing.
For the price, this place can't be beat! Highly recommend to the budget-conscious traveler looking for downtown digs.
Not only was Steve's place great, but he upgraded us to a larger room for free and was very kind and friendly! He made our arrival easy after a long flight from the midwest. Our room was the perfect location for visiting downtown Seattle. Next time we head to the northwest, I'll definitely be contacting Steve for a place!
