The awe inspiring Ophir valley is nestled in the heart of the San Juan Mountains in southwest Colorado. Our space offers amazing views and easy access to gorgeous hikes, Ophir pass and various 13,000 foot peaks. And its a beautiful 20 minute drive to Telluride. This spacious studio has everything you need, and nothing you don't. There is no television but we do have satellite wireless internet. With a fire in the outdoor pit under a sky sparkling with stars, taking in the quiet gurgle of the river and you're almost camping. The studio has a comfortable queen sized bed, and the couch pulls out if needed.
Please be aware that the elevation is 9,800 ft.
There is a small fridge, microwave, stove, oven and grill. The front yard has a hammock to take in the scenenry and depending on the season should have a cold frame with some salad fixings growing.
Interaction with Guests
The studio is the ground floor of our home so we are around and available for any questions about hiking, local activities, restaurants etc. Please don't hesitate to come upstairs with questions or needs. We will honor your privacy and will not come to you unless needed.
The neighborhood is about as mellow as it gets. Dogs and children run free and traffic is non-existent. The closest stoplight is at least 50 miles away. Families in Ophir live here to explore and experience the mountains that we are lucky enough to call our backyard.
Going anywhere requires driving mountain roads, weather can make it exciting. The drive to Telluride takes about 20 minutes, Mountain Village 15, Rico 25.
Other Things to Note
We have WIFI internet, but through a satellite which has download limitations. We can not stream music for very long and streaming movies, video chatting, etc are not an option.
No cell phone reception in Ophir. Enjoy the gift of being forced to unplug. You are welcome to use our land line (there is a phone in the studio) to make a call if needed.
We have twin 2 year old boys. We will try our hardest to keep the little men toddling quietly upstairs but the pitter patter of little feet should be expected.
Because the studio is a lock-off to a larger home guest are asked to respect the property, observe their noise levels and respect the neighborhood.
No smoking. Well behaved, child friendly pets negotiable.
My husband and I had a wonderful stay at Jaycee and Travers' Ophir Pass guest house. Ophir is a quiet and quaint little mountain town right outside of Telluride. We stayed for 2 nights and felt very at home in their place. The studio apartment is very cozy and comfortable, and it was wonderful to wake up to views of the mountains and the beautiful fall foliage. The road to and from Ophir is a well-managed dirt road, so all-wheel drive is not necessary in good weather (probably a must in the wintertime). We had no trouble getting around in our 2-wheel drive car. The apartment was perfect for our weekend getaway. The kitchen was great for making breakfast and a morning cup of coffee, and the views can't be beat. The bed was very comfortable, and the shower was great. We would love to stay here again!
This studio was perfect for us in every way. It was quiet, secluded, spacious, clean, comfortable and deeply relaxing! We wanted a couple days to come to a complete stop and this was the perfect place to do it. The view of the mountains and Pphir Pass was awesome. Travers responded immediately to our request for booking which helped considerably in our planning. He was welcoming and very helpful. The door was left unlocked so we could arrive whenever we wanted and he sent excellent directions which made it easy to find the house amongst the community of other homes, even after dark. Teluride is a short 20 min drive away. We will definitely return here when back in the area.
We had a fantastic stay in Ophir, CO. Ophir is beautiful and only a short, 20 min, drive to Telluride. Our hosts, Jacey & Travers made us feel extremely welcome in their home. They offered us local tips on what to do and how to get around and offered us vegetables from their garden. Jacey & Travers were perfect hosts. We brought our two small dogs with us and they acclimated very well to the neighborhood dogs that would visit. Overall, the Ophir Pass Guest House is a great place to stay, relax, and enjoy the outdoors.
My wife and I stayed here with our kids during a road trip through Colorado and we had an amazing time. The location is absolutely spectacular, and visiting the nearby town of Telluride was a pleasant shift of gears after spending half a day exploring the mountain and streams just at the bottom of the hill. Jacey and Travers were both very welcoming too.
what a great place! fully equipped kitchen, grill, etc -- great for cooking in. and also only 20 minutes to town (telluride). stunning views out the windows. travers loaned us his rock climbing guide books and had great info for us on the area. perfect little apartment! we recommend it!
Everything was great! It was so nice to spend the day in Telluride and then escape for a quiet night in Ophir. Ophir is like a dream! Jacey had delicious zucchini bread waiting for us--was a nice little surprise. Would definitely stay here again!
Jacey & Travers were both so warm and welcoming! The house was wonderful and had everything we needed- including a little surprise- a green house filled with all the fixing for a great salad! I'm still obsessing over that salad and how badly I want a green house just like theirs. The neighbors were also so welcoming and informed us of some of the great hikes in Ophir, which aren't laid out on maps. We loved that we were able to bring our dog, Paisley, with us and she quickly made friends with the town dogs. We plan to come back and stay here- what a great trip! Side note, all of the succulents in the home were absolutely gorgeous!!

About the Host, Jacey & Travers
We are from Colorado and New Mexico, and have lived in SW Colorado for over 10 years. We love traveling and getting outside hiking, climbing, skiing, or just being with our twin two year old boys and dog. We live in paradise and love sharing these beautiful mountains we are lucky to call home.
