About this listing
Our studio is the ideal mountain getaway with stunning views and tranquility. Enjoy a campfire under a star filled sky with the quiet gurgling Howard fork river as your soundtrack. Its a scenic 12 mile drive to the beautiful town of Telluride.
The awe inspiring Ophir valley is nestled in the heart of the San Juan Mountains in southwest Colorado. Our space offers amazing views and easy access to gorgeous hikes, Ophir pass and various 13,000 foot peaks. And its a beautiful 20 minute drive to Telluride. This spacious studio has everything you need, and nothing you don't. There is no television but we do have satellite wireless internet. Take in the quiet gurgle of the river at the outdoor fire pit under a sky sparkling with stars and you'll feel as if you're camping yet know you have a cozy bed just a few steps away. The studio has a comfortable queen sized bed, and the couch pulls out if needed.
Please be aware that the elevation is 9,800 ft.
There is a small fridge, microwave, stove, oven and grill. The front yard has a hammock to take in the scenery and, depending on the season, should have a cold frame with some salad fixings growing.
Interaction with Guests
The studio is the ground floor of our home so we are around and available for any questions about hiking, local activities, restaurants etc. Please don't hesitate to come upstairs with questions or needs. We will honor your privacy and will not come to you unless needed.
The neighborhood is about as mellow as it gets. Dogs and children run free and traffic is non-existent. The closest stoplight is at least 50 miles away. Families in Ophir live here to explore and experience the mountains that we are lucky enough to call our backyard.
Going anywhere requires driving mountain roads, weather can make it exciting. The drive to Telluride takes about 20 minutes, Mountain Village 15, Rico 25.
Other Things to Note
We have WIFI internet, but through a satellite which has download limitations. We can not stream music for very long and streaming movies, video chatting, etc are not an option.
No cell phone reception in Ophir. Enjoy the gift of being forced to unplug. You are welcome to use our land line (there is a phone in the studio) to make a call if needed.
We have twin 2 year old boys. We will try our hardest to keep the little men toddling quietly upstairs but the pitter patter of little feet should be expected.
There is a neighborhood trampoline, zip line, and tire swing about 50 meters from the house that guests should feel free to use.
Because the studio is a lock-off to a larger home guest are asked to respect the property, observe their noise levels and respect the neighborhood.
No smoking. Well behaved, child friendly pets negotiable.
We had a wonderful time at the Ophir house. Travers and Jacey's description of the amenities and surrounding area were accurate. The studio apartment was presented like a hotel room- everything was clean and welcoming (e.g., shampoos, conditioners, umbrella all provided). Jacey and Travers were both hospitable and accessible without intruding; Jacey even made us zucchini bread and a kale salad. They were both knowledgable about the area and offered us advice on where to hike (which turned out to be awesome). Jacey, Travers, the twins and Sancho were all welcoming of our puppy Riley, which was a relief since this was our first trip with her. Thanks for an awesome vacation!
We loved our 5-night stay at the Ophir Pass Guest House! Jacey & Travers were excellent hosts (and their boys and dog are adorable), and the studio has everything you would want. Ophir is wonderful, and it was great being so close to Telluride...but being able to come back to the quiet of Ophir. It was so fun hiking, exploring the area, cooking and hanging out by the fire, and relaxing. We didn't want to leave! (Oh, and Jacey made peach muffins that were nothing short of magical.)
The Mitchells were friendly and welcoming hosts. They gave us privacy but were available to answer questions. The apt. was in an amazingly beautiful location, with miles of trails all around. It had everything we needed, and we had a wonderful stay.
Beautiful and quiet location away from it all! We really enjoyed our stay.
Friendly , relaxed, welcoming couple. Two young children and older dog. Everyone well behaved.
Spacious studio with full kitchen and bath. Feels more like a one bedroom .
Very small mountain village surrounded by spectacular high peaks.
If you enjoy hiking, solitude, and extraordinary natural surroundings I don't see how this spot could be surpassed.
My husband and I had a delightful stay. The space was cozy and comfortable and easy driving distance from Telluride, where my event took place. Our hosts were thoughtful in more ways than I can begin to list here. They offered to help in any way we might need, but really they had already set things up so well that we did not need enything more. They provided lots of brochures about local activites, dining, etc. There were plenty of board games, and we put the Scrabble to good use. Also there was a tasty baked surprise on the table when we arrived. Terrific hosts!!!
This is an unbelievable place. My wife and I spent most of our time staring at the beautiful view outside our window. The hosts made us feel extremely welcome and we had everything we needed. It was a great place to relax after a few days of camping.

About the Host, Jacey & Travers
We are from Colorado and New Mexico, and have lived in SW Colorado for over 10 years. We love traveling and getting outside hiking, climbing, skiing, or just being with our twin two year old boys and dog. We live in paradise and love sharing these beautiful mountains we are lucky to call home.
