Other things to note
The Schoolhouse Inn was originally built in 1873 and called the Markton area one room school. Years later six bedrooms were added to the school and it operated in a boarding school type capacity. The school operated until 1915 when a larger brick school house was built in Langlade. The brick school was more centrally located just off the intersection of Hwy 55 and Hwy 64. Over the years the Markton school operated as a group home, called the Nookery, there were also rumors of a house of ill repute, a hostel type boarding house and a vacation rental as part of a local campground. When the property was purchased in 2022 it was in a terrible state of disrepair. The Markton school was at a turning point in its life where it either needed lots of love or to be totally demolished. The current owner could see the many years of history still existing in the property and felt that it was important to maintain the past 153 years the property has already existed. In 2023 the owner began a two and a half years of extensive repair and remodeling project to bring the property to the beautiful vacation rental it is today. Hopefully vacation renters can appreciate the history of this property and help to create memories for another 150 years.
