Very large (c 1100 sq ft) architect-designed loft apartment in Castlefield, Manchester city centre.
Note: the apartment is in a quiet residential block and is not available for parties or noisy social events.
It has a great feeling of space, guests often comment. It's also very close to Man Utd football ground, and a little further on, Old Trafford cricket ground. The Manchester City ground is easily accessible by metro (light rail). Walking distance to all the main attractions (Manchester isn't a big city, so nowhere is that far away from anywhere else).
Two bedrooms, two bathrooms, one en suite.
The first of award-winning developers Urban Splash' 'design your own' apartment initiatives, every one of Box Works' apartments is completely unique. My apartment was designed by Urban Splash' own in-house architects.
In a converted warehouse with original industrial architecture (original brickwork and girders etc.) and modern fitments - including free-standing cubic glass bathroom - it has two large double bedrooms, one en suite. 2nd bedroom with balcony overlooking canal inlet with water lillies (!).
Two double bed sofas in main room mean it will accomodate 8 people at a push, but I'd recommend 3-6 as the ideal numbers.
Double glazed with solid wood floors and underfloor heating throughout. I have used the apartment for supper clubs (pop-up dining)*, so the kitchen is equipped pretty much to catering standards with three ovens and plenty of pans, crockery and cutlery, dishwasher, fridge etc.
Cable TV and wifi. 50" plasma tv, radio and docking station for playing music from iphones/ipads etc
The apartment is basically at the edge of the city centre, and all parts of the city are easily accessible by the canal towpath which passes directly in front of the apartment. Metro/mainline train stations are within 10 minutes' walk for connections to Manchester airport and rail travel.
Castlefield is one of the oldest parts of Manchester with a number of well-preserved Roman remains just a short distance from the apartment. The Museum of Science and Industry is also close by. There are bars and cafes within a 100 metres, and within 5 minutes' walk any number of cafes, bars, pubs and restaurants.
You walk pretty much out of the apartment into the city, but when you want peace and quiet after a long day (and nights!), enjoying Manchester, the apartment provides as much peace and seclusion as you might need.
Secure parking for up to 2 cars is available in The Box Works underground car park for £10 per car per day, by prior arrangement.
* I am also able to offer private dining at the apartment by prior arrangement - which makes it perfect for intimate get togethers. Check us out on NorthOnecomfort for a feel of our informal style of cooking!
The apartment is presented 'stay ready', with fresh towels and bedding supplied. The front door to the apartment has a mortice lock, so very secure, but only if you lock it with the key - it doesn't lock automatically; so, when leaving, two full turns clockwise to lock; when in the flat, two full turns anti-clockwise of the circular knob to lock from the inside. Parking isn't included in the price, but if you give me advance notice, I can usually find you a secure space in the residents' underground car park for up to 2 cars @ £10 per car per day. For anything else, including recommendations on restaurants/theatre/clubs etc, just ask on handover, and you can always reach us by 'phone if you're stuck.
We enjoy our journey in Manchester very much thank to the help of Phil and Chris. We're feel at home with his considerate treating. He provided us with specific information about directions and give us some recommendation and tips traveling around Manchester. Thank you so much
The apartment was exactly as described. Phil responded quickly and friendly to all questions and communication was smooth. Great place great host! Lot of windows for good light. Free WIFI made it easy to surf the Net for travel information. Nearby grocery shop and restaurant. Host provided secure parking (for small additional fee). Big space, good sleeping rooms and beds. Very convenient with two separate bathrooms. Recommended!
Helpful welcome and support getting to place.
A big flat with room for 6 if you don't mind beds in living room.
The area has a few student bars and a mini market but otherwise a 15 minute walk into Manchester along the canals, which we liked but may not suit all.
Our main quibble was the hot water ran out too fast so cold showers in the morning. There was a booster but didn't work for us and not sure why hot water is not on tap?
We enjoyed the space and the canal views.
Thanks John - glad you enjoyed it.
Sorry you struggled with the water system - it's on a timer, heats up overnight and is always scalding hot in a morning - but inevitably if a number of people take showers in quick succession because all tanks have limited capacity it takes a while for the boost system to bring it back to temperature. We've checked the system since your stay, and everything is working well.
Great welcoming, very attentive and friendly, couldn't ask for more. Incredible setting and a great apartment to stay in!
Phil was accomodating and friendly. So too was his business partner Chris. The accomodation was exactly as expected - clean, spacious and convenient.
I would recommend this apartment to anyone.
We had a great stay in Phil's apartment. We stayed for one night and loved it. The apartment is really comfortable and spacious with everything you need. The location is great, only a quick taxi journey to the centre or about 20-25mjns walk. We came to manchester for a concert in the evening but had time to visit a really nice local pub 'the wharf' which is only a couple of minutes walk from the apartment. Great weekend, great stay. Thanks!
Full compliments needs to go to Phil, his apartment and the service he offers. Extremely flexible, was always happy to meet our requests etc and above all else, a well equipped apartment in a perfect location.
I cannot recommend staying here enough!
