Centrally located and on the second floor of a 4 storey walk-up, my home is just steps to the canal, the market and Elgin St. With a queen bed, a pull out couch, play-pen, living and dining room, and fully equipped kitchen, this makes family travel effortless.
This building was built in 1935 and has wonderful charm and beautiful architecture inside and out.
Other amenities include: play-pen, games, puzzles, extra linen, hair dryer, fully stocked kitchen including coffee maker, cable, wireless internet, Netflix and Apple TV.
There is a paid washer/dryer located in the basement.
With everything so close by, including the Rideau Centre, the Canal, the Market, the Nature Museum, the National Gallery, Parliament, and nightlife and great pubs and restaurants on Elgin, you can walk everywhere and nothing is more than a 15 minute walk away.
Because of its central location, almost anything you need is within walking distance!
But if needed, getting around the city by public transit is easy and I'm close to the transit way. There are also many bixi bike locations very close by and hailing a taxi never takes more than a minute while on Elgin St. or there is a cab stand one block away.
I have an extra bike to use if needed and possible use of an assigned parking space. There is street parking which is free after 5:30pm on weekdays and all day on weekends.
One thing to note, I've had two guests with dust allergies who have raised the issue that the dust in my poor old building aggravated them. Both of them stayed with me in the winter, so it might just be when it's very dry in the wintertime, but I just want to disclose that before you book of you have severe allergies.
My husband and 4-month old son stayed at Ashley's apartment for three nights. The apartment is super big and very comfortable. We brought our pack-and-play, but then realized that Ashley has the exact same one and we could have just used it! Ashley was very helpful and accommodating as we planned our arrival and departure times. I would highly recommend Ashley's place to any family traveling with a small child.
Ashley was a great host! She was very welcoming and helped us with all the needs we had. Her appartement is very nice, cosy and clean. Additionally is is located at a very central place and there was even a private parking available just behind the building. We highly recommend to everyone to stay at Ashley's.
My best Airbnb experience after staying at over a dozen different apartments. This nest had the comfort I needed after a long, stressful busy week. The couch, the mattress and the bedding were really comfortable. It is often difficult to find an apartment with character and charm without too many personal belongings. I enjoy minimalist space but I am often disappointed and uncomfortable in modern, unpersonalized condos. Ashley's place is well decorated, with just the right amount of everything. It was easy to make arrangements with her and she answered my questions in a timely manner. The location is ideal to do some shopping, use the public transportation, and enjoy healthy and affordable restaurants. Being a specialized coffee lover; I fell for a tiny adorable place called " The Ministry of Coffee" 279 Elgin street just a few blocks away. The soup was delicious and the coffee made with love. Only one thing might need to be considered; her flat is on the second floor, so if you have more than 2 pieces of luggage it might be a bit of a work out, but it is totally worth it if you want piece of mind and if you enjoy architecture. It is a very old and unique building. I recommended this rental to all my friends who often travel in Ottawa.
This is a relatively large apartment with a nice large dining area. It is very conveniently located (close to Elgin) and there are many creature comforts. The parking space was a nice bonus too. The apartment is in a seemingly old building but it's very interesting and I really enjoyed its uncommon character. Ashley was easy to communicate with and getting access to the apartment was very simple. Overall it was a comfortable place to work from and to relax.
Ashleys place was great! it is in a prime location if you are trying to take in Ottawa's sites without having to take a taxi or drive. She was a great host and if we needed anything she was quick to answer us. Her place has a tonne of character and a large layout perfect for lounging around. A gem for sure!
This was a really big space, much larger than I imagined it being. It is extremely inviting and really interesting with all of Ashley's knick knacks all over.
Not only was the place great but the location was even better. We were just a few minutes walk away from Parliament and the byward market which was absolutely perfect.
Overall a very good experience.
I'm sorry to say that we were disappointed with our stay here. The heat in the apartment was on super-high and there wasn't a way to adjust it (no thermostat). We did contact Ashley about this and she explained there were new energy efficient windows installed recently and that the heat for the building (centrally controlled) had not been adjusted to reflect that. It was hot to the point of being uncomfortable, especially for sleeping. The apartment was tidy but not clean where it counted to us: the floor of the bathroom was dirty as were the corners of the tub and appeared to not have been cleaned in some time. There was also a fair amount of dust in the apartment that really aggravated my husband's allergies.
Apart from that, the apartment is located in a very central and well located part of Ottawa, and Ashley's past reviews noted cleanliness as a strength so perhaps this was an unusual lapse but our experience didn't match up with those. Ashley was super helpful about organizing parking and getting a set of keys to my parents since we arrived in Ottawa on a late flight.
Ashley's apartement is exactly as advertised. A very cozy and charming place to spend time in our nation's capital. It is conveniently located within walking distance of all the major points of interest. We barely used the car which conveniently was parked in her assign spot (in the middle of downtown, how perfect is that?!) We really really appreciated the super warm apartment, given that our stay was during one of the coldest days of the season and in the middle of a snowstorm. Thank you again Ashley, we sure will keep your place in mind for our future trips to Ottawa!
Ashley's apartment is an absolutely great place to stay, and we're certainly glad we picked it for our first (but most certainly not last!) visit to Ottawa. It's in a great central location, very nicely decorated and furnished, and is just overall excellent. While we didn't have the pleasure of meeting Ashley in person during our stay, she was extremely accommodating, easy to reach, and quick to reply. Highly recommended if you're in Ottawa and she can accommodate you!
Ashley's apartment was clean and in a great location to see the parliament buildings and art galleries. I would recommend this place.
