About this listing

The beautiful 23 mtr long houseboat, Charlotte Johanna, is situated at the picturesque Noordermarkt alongside the canal Prinsengracht right in the middle of the Jordaan, the historic and lively downtown of Amsterdam.

The space

The old cargo vessel (built in 1908) has recently been transformed to a fully equipped and spacious houseboat – sunny deck terrace-, lounge area, modern kitchen, living room with wood burner and two bedrooms.

The picturesque old houses, beautiful canal, many pubs, restaurants and famous farmers market, make the location of the Charlotte_Johanna, one of the most enjoyable places in Amsterdam.

The Anne Frank house and Dam square are only a 5 minute walk, the gallery area (Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh etc.), Central Station and Leidseplein are all a 15 minute walk.

The former freight space is transformed into a light and spacious living room and kitchen area. In the front of the ship you will find the master bedroom with double bed. The bathroom is situated next to the kitchen and has a shower, washbasin and toilet. The modern kitchen is equipped with a stove, dishwasher, fridge and microwave.

The former wheelhouse, transformed to a lounge, is located in the middle of the ship. You will enjoy sitting there and watch the canal with ships that sail past and the beautiful sight at the famous Westerkerk. When weather permits, enjoy the view, drinks or dinner and the lively Jordaan area from the sun terrace.

The second bedroom (one adult or two kids) equipped with its own bathroom is situated at the rear site of this ship.

A central heating system is installed. The living room, bedrooms and wheelhouse are equipped with flatscreen TV sets, the boat has a central hifi system with a mobile phone connector and free Wifi.

Hans' houseboat is a charming way to experience Amsterdam. Definitely a unique way to stay and explore the city. Very cozy, comfy beds, close to everything you want to see in the city. Communication was great, definitely recommend if you want a unique place to stay.

It was very nice and lovely boat! The boat is very central, so you don't need the bus or tram to see the attractions in Amsterdam. The check-in proceeded without problems and we got some "insider" tipps from our host ☺

The boat is beautiful and in such a fantastic area. It is perfect for exploring with most things being nearby and in walking distance. The public transport system is also nearby and easy to use!And the nearby Winkel 43 does indeed sell an amazing Dutch apple pie! Remco was helpful at check in and at other points but did leave us to our own devices which we appreciated. This place is definitely worth a stay and we hope to return!

Our stay at the Houseboat was magical. The location right in the center, the terrace where we could look at the boat and the beds that were very comfortable. It was much better than what we expected. Thank you for sharing your Houseboat with us !

The communication with Hans (and his son, when he was away) was terrific, clear, enthusiastic and fast. We loved the houseboat so much — romantic, fun, exciting! Place was just as described and photographed, very welcoming and comfortable. We had a question about where to turn on the heat and Hans's son responded with the answer in under 5 minutes, even after 11pm! Coffee on the deck of this houseboat across from the market—? Heaven.

Response from Hans:
I feel sad that the boat wasn't as these guests expected, but I definitely explained the guests that it is a still working ship, so it's different than an apartment. I'm sorry that you guys didn't had the best experience, but I offered all the help if needed, but didn't hear anything during there stay, so assumed everything was fine. It's easy to complain afterwards but not really nice since I was willing to solve problems and answer all the questions if needed.

My passion is traveling all over the world, but I always come back to Amsterdam. I love living in Amsterdam, it is cozy, romantic, vibrant, trendy and there is always something to discover. Enjoy this beautiful city, stay on my historical ship and I am sure you feel at home straight away.
