The beautiful 23 mtr long houseboat, Charlotte Johanna, is situated at the picturesque Noordermarkt alongside the canal Prinsengracht right in the middle of the Jordaan, the historic and lively downtown of Amsterdam.
The old cargo vessel (built in 1908) has recently been transformed to a fully equipped and spacious houseboat – sunny deck terrace-, lounge area, modern kitchen, living room with wood burner and two bedrooms.
The picturesque old houses, beautiful canal, many pubs, restaurants and famous farmers market, make the location of the Charlotte_Johanna, one of the most enjoyable places in Amsterdam.
The Anne Frank house and Dam square are only a 5 minute walk, the gallery area (Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh etc.), Central Station and Leidseplein are all a 15 minute walk.
The former freight space is transformed into a light and spacious living room and kitchen area. In the front of the ship you will find the master bedroom with double bed. The bathroom is situated next to the kitchen and has a shower, washbasin and toilet. The modern kitchen is equipped with a stove, dishwasher, fridge and microwave.
The former wheelhouse, transformed to a lounge, is located in the middle of the ship. You will enjoy sitting there and watch the canal with ships that sail past and the beautiful sight at the famous Westerkerk. When weather permits, enjoy the view, drinks or dinner and the lively Jordaan area from the sun terrace.
The second bedroom (one adult or two kids) equipped with its own bathroom is situated at the rear site of this ship.
A central heating system is installed. The living room, bedrooms and wheelhouse are equipped with flatscreen TV sets, the boat has a central hifi system with a mobile phone connector and free Wifi.
The Trip to Amsterdam was great and the house boat made it very special. The house boat was located at the centre so you can reach everything by foot. The furnishing was very homely, but it could be a little bit cleaner. Finaly i can say Hans was a great host.
I stayed with two friends on Hans houseboat and we really enjoyed our stay!
The boat really is as beautiful as its pictured. The kitchen worked well and the fridge is big enough to store everything you`ll need.
The shower was hot and really nice, way better than we expected.
Although it was around 5 Degrees outside the houseboat was warm and cozy.
All in all it was a perfect stay and we`re really thankful that Hans allowed us to stay without ever meeting us before.
We LOVED our stay on Hans' houseboat! It's a charming historic boat, perfectly situated in the heart of Amsterdam's Jordaan neighborhood - a nice walk to just about everything. We spent our mornings and evenings on the deck - watching bicycles and boats glide by. Inside the boat is cozy and casual with lots of natural sunlight pouring in. Especially in the wheel room - which is lined with windows and banquette seating - very cool and comfortable - and great for taking in Amsterdam without leaving the boat. We enjoyed the lived-in feel, the beers left in the fridge, the travel books lining the shelves. The Charlotte Johanna is surprisingly spacious and was plenty of room for our family (my wife and I plus our two boys ages 12 & 14). One of our sons stayed in the loft bed down under, the other slept on the couch, while we enjoyed the relaxing and roomy bedroom and skylight. Staying on Hans' houseboat was one of the best experiences of our European holiday!
We had wonderful weather, so the roof terrace was perfect us. Also the location was excellent. The market on saturday and monday next us was great, you could get there your breakfast bread and cheeses etc. Joordan is nice place to stay, a lot of great small restaurants around. The canal with all boats filled with tourists and locals was entertaining, we spend a lot of time just watching passing by boats. Definitely wanna stay here next time. Charming boat.
I took my parents to stay in Amsterdam - the houseboat is exactly as pictured, and was the perfect place for us. They loved the experience of being directly on the canal, it was a perfect location for everything we wanted to see and do in Amsterdam. I loved that the location is in the Jordaan neighborhood - a perfect spot to see daily life in Amsterdam. Also close to Central Station - had no problem walking on arrival. Our host was delightful, knowledgeable about the area, and made us feel very welcome. I also appreciate the flexibility with arrival time, as my travel arrangements accelerated the timetable. Could not have had a better stay.
Nothing short of wonderful. We have been to Amsterdam many times and jealously looked at the people enjoying their days on the canal boats. This time we finally had what we have longed for! Hans and his vessel were the perfect hosts, and Anne the perfect liaison. We needed nothing except a very good reason to leave the boat! The neighborhood was excellent, and the canal traffic intoxicating. We will return!
We did lots of walking around Amsterdam, I really think Hans's houseboat is the best one we saw. There was lots of room, equipped with everything one could need and even has a wonderful deck where we sat out in the evening enjoying a beer. Tour boats go by and the guests photograph the boat, it's that great. Really handy location with supermarkets and bakeries a stones' throw away. We walked from Amsterdam Centraal with wheeled luggage, no problem. Recommended!
My passion is traveling all over the world, but I always come back to Amsterdam. I love living in Amsterdam, it is cozy, romantic, vibrant, trendy and there is always something to discover. Enjoy this beautiful city, stay on my historical ship and I am sure you feel at home straight away.
