Interaction with Guests
Our contact is only by phone or email with our guests. We have a management company who meets you at the Villa and gives you the tour and the keys.
Potrero is a small town built around the main square soccer field. There is a church within walking distance, a police station and a few Supers (convenience stores). There is karaoke at two different bars during the week.
There is public bus by the soccer field, you can get taxis, or rent a car if you are keen to explore. We walk as much as we can along the many beaches.
You can rent a car from the Liberia airport or you can get a shuttle from the airport. We can give you suggestions as to who to book with if required.
Other Things to Note
We have custom pricing for various months. Christmas is the most popular time of the year and the rates are higher than the daily rate shown. You need to confirm with us as to what the rate is for the particular time you are requesting. Thanks. Phyllis
Our Villa is a non smoking home. No pets are allowed. Beach towels are provided so please do not use the bathroom towels for pool or beach use.
Beautiful home, tastefully decorated. We enjoyed sunset views from the decks each night. It easily accommodated two couples. We exchanged rooms in the middle of our stay so we could each enjoy the “Crow’s nest” high up in the trees. We saw many birds including two types of humming birds in the morning, iguana that lived in the drainpipe and a troop of howler monkeys in a tree by the road.
The kitchen was well equipped with granite counters and plenty of cooking tools. We were disappointed that the dishwasher was not operating. The property manager offered to send a repair guy, but we did not think it would be easy to repair and decided to live without it. While it is a walk to the beach, it is not long and we would walk there multiple times during the day. The beaches are glorious. Playa Potrero is miles long for walks and a restaurant on the beach. Playa Penca is lovely for swimming and you have it nearly to yourselves. Both have lots of shade and are protected from large waves.
We choose not to rent a car. This meant we needed to walk or get a taxi if we wished to venture from the house. We usually walked but realized we needed a better way to get a taxi. If we had a phone, it would have worked fine but our phones didn't work and were too lazy to figure out (website hidden). We tried emailing the woman managing the property and she was very responsive but as this was email, it took time and we did not plan well. If I went here, again I would have made sure I had a way to use a phone or rent a car. This is remote and there are no passing taxis to hail. You need to call them. Another warning is this is rural Costa Rica; everyone has chickens, bring good earplugs the roosters never sleep.
Thanks for the positive comments. We are glad you enjoyed your stay. The dishwasher is getting fixed but waiting for parts. We do have a cell phone that guests can arrange to use for a fee as we pay for the minutes etc. yes there are roosters an howlers in the morning and I guess we are just used to them and we are always up early so we don't miss any of that sun time. Many Ticos have and use (website hidden) so it is a good idea to have it on your laptop when you come down. The information book has #'s to call for cabs etc. Lindsey our property manager is very responsive when emailed as it shows up on her iPhone. Thanks Steve for the feedback as it helps me improve on things for the next guests. Pura Vida. Phyllis
Myself, my fiance and 3 friends stayed at Villa Celeste for 7 nights over New Years. We had a fantastic experience! The condo is very unique and beautiful with more than enough room for 5 adults. The views from the condo are also breathtaking! The condo had everything we needed plus a shared pool that we used. It was about 5-10 minute walk to a gorgeous beach for swimming. Potrero is a quiet town but Phyllis provided us with a lot of suggestions of things to do around the area which allowed us to get the full experience. She recommeneded a sailing tour from Potrero and it was one of our best days in Costa Rica. We were also walking distance to some delicious resturants and the market was just down the hill. Phyllis was fantastic to deal with and I would highly recommend her beautiful condo!
Our travel focus was on looking for property in Guanacaste along the "gold coast" along with some fun and relaxation. Above all else we were not looking for a large complex with people partying to all hours of the night (aka a Tamarindo hotel type setting). Villa Celeste met our needs perfectly. The following comments are made about our one month long stay.
The condo - The 3 floor set up worked well for us. I had to work a bit and the separate floors allowed me to leave my wife undisturbed. Most importantly, the home is well decorated, very well supplied. From the bigger feature like a full, ice making, refrigerator all the way down to everything you would need to cook, and then some. Blender, mixer, pizza cutter, plates, bowls, bags for the beach, a large supply of great beach towels on and on you will want for nothing in this condo. The place also has a small propane BBQ that works very well. We were pleasantly surprised the propane tank was full upon arrival (if not, the local store has replacement tanks).
The view - spectacular. The master bedroom has a stunning view. If you get up with the sun, just leave those curtains at the foot of the bed open and your day will start in a glorious manner. Views all the way around to Playa Flamingo, sailboats, speed boats and jet skis speckle the rolling ocean.
Pool, parking and neighbors - The pool is small, what I would call a dipping pool. It was all we needed. It also put a smile on my nephew's face when we was with us over the weekend. (The bigger pool is Penca!) As stated, the spa is not heated. Very common in Costa Rica, I don't get it, but it is common. We had no issues parking. We drove a sedan (but if you are driving around I strongly recommend a 4 wheel drive vehicle.... you will want to drive into Conchal through Braziltio... TRUST ME!) Neighbor - The neighbor and manager is Machito, but he is a dog, so we mostly talk to his helper Jack. :) Sorry Jack, but we fell in love with that dog of yours! Need ANYTHING?! Ask Jack. A great guy who can get anywhere you want/need to go. Plus if you want a great sailing trip, he is your man. Jack is Canadian born but been in CR since the 80's. He treated us very well.
Playa Penca was a pleasant surprise. An easy walk from the house, with stunning sunsets, great sand and very few people.
Our stay at Villa Celeste was absolutely wonderful. The place is beautiful, tastefully decorated, spacious and well laid-out. We were grateful to have air conditioning during our stay as it was hot! The place has everything you need in the kitchen including a blender for fruit smoothies.
The villa is perched up on top of a hill overlooking the ocean and the flowers and pool add to the stunning view. We enjoyed the view while we ate breakfast every morning from one of the 3 balconies. We saw monkeys, iguanas, lizards, and beautiful birds right outside of the condo.
You have your choice of 3 pristine beaches all within a 5-10 minute walk from the place. Playa Prieta was our favourite. There is also a grocery store right beside the condo and a couple more to choose from just a few minutes further down the road. You have several restaurants to choose from all within a 5-15 minutes walking distance from the condo.
Phyllis was just an amazing host as she was quick to respond to our questions and went above and beyond in terms of providing detailed maps of the area, places to rent bikes, suggestions on activities and restaurants. She coordinated the check-in/out through Lindsey and Jenny who work for a local real-estate company. Both Lindsey and Jenny were very welcoming and attentive to our needs.
We had a drink one night with Jack, the neighbour and the original builder of the condo unit. He's a really interesting guy and shared a lot of great info about the community and travelling in Costa Rica - he also owns a sailboat that you can charter.
We highly recommend staying at Phyllis' place and would definitely stay again.
Our family very much enjoyed our stay at Villa Celeste in Potrero. The condo is large, clean and well stocked. There is a good selection of books and movies. I especially liked the kitchen and found everything I needed to do a bit of baking. The condo complex is small - just three units - and is very quiet. The pool is situated above the Pacific Ocean and we always had it to ourselves. We loved floating around and watching the parakeets jump about in the trees right beside us. The nearest beach is less than a 10 minute walk away. There are a few little grocery stores... again, no more than 10 minutes away by foot. We were able to buy any food we needed without having to drive anywhere. The owner, Phyllis, was very helpful with providing directions and information, as well as answering any questions we had. The villa is fairly new and not all taxi drivers know where it is, but Phyllis gave us good, detailed directions, so it wasn't a problem. We also really enjoyed meeting the condo builder, Jack, who lives on the property. He was also very nice and gave us good recommendations for restaurants and beaches. A bonus - meeting Jack's sweet dog, Macho. It was easy to get back to the airport. The Ecotrans people don't have any trouble finding the condo and are punctual. We would definitely stay here again.
I am married with two sons. I work full time in the Health Care Field and my husband Darrell is a geologist. We love to travel and spend as much time as we can at our Villa in Costa Rica. We fell in love with Costa Rica many many years ago and have had our place for three years. We love to explore and travel on rough roads looking for wildlife and pristine beaches that we have to ourself. We love to kayak, zipline, walk, hike, photography and explore new areas. Our place is in a quiet neighbourhood that is not heavily commercialized. I am learning spanish so that i can fully immerse myself in the culture. We live on fresh fruit and veggies and fresh caught seafood. We love to sail and always see dolphins, rays, turtles, etc.
We are both easy going people but like excitement as well as a time to chill.
