This is a difficult review to write, because it's always easier to write about positive experiences. I stayed at Elida's for about 2 months while I worked in Albania. The neighborhood is great and the apartment is very nice. Everything was clean, safe, and comfortable.
That being said, I cannot in good conscience recommend staying with Elida.
At the time of this writing, Elida states that she will charge guests for electricity and internet on her Airbnb profile. This was perfectly fine with me at the outset, but quickly turned into a source of stress. After the first month, Elida asked me for $60 for the electric bill. This seemed very high, but I didn't want to cause problems so I paid it. I then asked an Albanian colleague what a reasonable amount would be. He told me she was overcharging me by 2-3x. He offered to come with me when Elida came a second time to collect the next month. I asked Elida to bring the bill this time. Based on the bill she presented, she charged me more than double the bill for my first month. She also tried to get me to pay a $60 cleaning fee on top of the cleaning fee she charged me through Airbnb.
When she was confronted about this, she began yelling at both me and my colleague. She was very mad about being caught and confronted, but agreed that the amount I had paid ($60) would cover the cost of both months, and that I wouldn't have to pay additional fees.
Honestly, it's not worth being cheated or yelled at to stay here. I filed an official complaint with Airbnb, and she will no longer be able to charge fees outside of what she charges on AirBnb.
In addition to her attempts to overcharge me, Elida also let herself into the apartment one night when I didn't answer the door.
Apartments in the neighborhood can be rented for $250-350 a month off AirBnb, and there are other AirBnb apartments in Tirana. Do yourself a favor and book a stay somewhere else!
I was sorry to read your review and accusation - you are calling me dishonest and that is an accusation I don't take lightly. I understand your frustrations and believe there has been a miscommunication and language barrier here, so lets talk facts:
- Electric Bill: initially upon your arrival you inquired about an estimate of the electric bill and I informed you that it would be ~$60 for the duration of your stay (nearly 2 winter months). In Albania the electric bill is shown after a month, not at the time of your stay. On Dec 3rd you paid me $60. As I had tried to communicate then, this was to cover for November and the 20 days in December you stayed. I never asked you for money the second time; I brought the bill statements even before you asked for it and returned back to you 280 Lek from the $60 you provided initially.
- Cleaning fee: never asked for $60 cleaning fee. I did ask if you needed cleaning service in the middle of your stay and informed this cost 2,000 lek (not part of AirBnB fee, which is for end of stay cleaning service). Initially you agreed for the service and paid 2,000 lek and afterwards changed your mind. We used this money to cover the internet bill which I showed you and also returned to you the change of 400 lek for.
- Yelled at: in our last meeting I was upset as I saw my apartment in a really bad shape. Dishes were broken and the apartment was left dirty. I did not report all this and maybe you feel entitled to leaving the apartment that way, but when you have your own place and see others mismanage it, you will know what that feels like.
- Entering apartment: we had an agreed upon meeting. After I knocked and rang the bell several times and you did not answer, I got worried for your safety. What I did is a normal response that anyone would have done, if you had a meeting with a young girl such as you, in a foreign country and there was no answer.
You have called me a cheat and hope the above clarifies any misunderstanding. I am sorry it had to be this way; I went above my host duties from the moment you arrived from Kosovo, where I waited at the bus stop for two hours to pick you up and make sure you got to the apartment safe - unfortunately these things did not make your review.
Wish you the best in your endeavors.
My family and I stayed for a few days at Elida's apt while our visit in Tirana. This was an excellent place to stay at. It has everything that you'll need for a comfortable stay. The location is perfect, in a very good and safe area, close to restaurants, supermarkets, cinema, bars, the lake, etc. All within walking distance.
Elida herself is great! very friendly, attentive, helpful and always around for any needs you might encounter. The communication with her is always good.
I will definitely stay here again and can recommend any time.
Best to you Elida and thank you!
Elida and her husband are a lovely elderly couple who pick you up to bring you to the flat which is as big as it looks on the pictures. It is very well equipped, so you can really live (and cook) there. The location is near the faculty and the American embassy and not far from blloku. Though you should know that central location also means, it is at a lively street with noise and odour of gasoline and you might not be able to sleep with an open window.
I absolutely loved staying at this apartment! The hosts were incredibly gracious and helpful, without being intrusive in any way.
Everything about the apartment was perfect: excellent location (close to the Bllok), comfortable furniture, very clean, and it had all the kitchen appliances that one may need for a longer stay. All bedding and towels were also very clean. Wifi was very reliable.
I know Tirana very well and I was rather sad to leave the apartment: I hope to find it available next time I visit.
Thank you very much for such a pleasant stay!
Adored staying at Elida's flat. She is a great host, very responsible and welcoming. The apartment is located next to the American Embassy, close to the lake and the Bllok trendy area. The apartment was large, very clean, tidy, newly refurbished, had comfortable beds and all appliances, a reliable fast wi-fi and a nice view from the balcony.
Will definitely stay here again! I highly recommend this place. Thank you Elida, making your acquittance and staying at your place is one of my many great experiences in Tirana.
