About This Listing
Welcome to the Creole Attic, located in the hip and offbeat Historic Bywater neighborhood of New Orleans. Whether you’re here for an event or holiday, to hang out, or rejuvenate your soul, we’ll make you feel at home in our upstairs guest apartment.
There are 2 private bedrooms, both with queen size beds. There's room to move around and the ceilings are high. It's a surprisingly open and spacious feel for an attic. You have your own central air conditioning and heating that you control. We have a strict 4-guest limit.
Access is through a big side gate at the sidewalk down a brick path to the back porch entry.
Interaction with Guests
I work from home so I'm always here. If there is anything you'd like to know about New Orleans feel free to ask. The city has something for everyone. I want to make your stay enjoyable and fulfilling.
Our neighborhood is a collection of colorful houses and colorful people. We have interesting restaurants, occasional corner bars and shops, and the riverfront Crescent Park. All of these are within a few blocks.
The people of the Bywater are an eclectic mix of generational families, artists, musicians and fresh young faces. You are encouraged to be yourself, come as you are, and live life at a relaxed pace.
We have 2 men's and 2 women's bicycles with locks. It's the best way to get around.
We're 2 blocks from the bus that goes right through the French Quarter, and 1 block from the return bus stop. A 1-day Jazzy Pass is $3 and is good for all day on all buses and streetcar lines. They can be purchased on the bus.
A taxi ride to the French Quarter is under $10. We like United Cab.
It's a 20 minute walk which is nice during the day to see the variety of architectural styles that are unique to New Orleans. Locals are friendly so say hello along the way.
After 10pm weekdays and midnight weekends is quiet time. We love our neighbors and they love us.
Smoke whatever you want OUTSIDE!!!
Bernie was a great host and his place was beautiful. Even more beautiful than the pictures. It was a large space and everything is newly redone. The backyard is huge and a standout amenity that we especially enjoyed the first day of our visit. The neighborhood was perfect for accessing everything you'd want in New Orleans. I'd highly recommend staying with Bernie.
We loved everything about our stay at the Creole Attic -- Bernie and Rick's warm hospitality, the very thoughtful touches throughout the apartment to make our stay that much more enjoyable (for example, fresh fruit and flowers), and the fun and funky neighborhood that makes up the Bywater. The Creole Attic itself is simply beautiful, and a great home base in which to relax. Bernie and Rick are also a large part of why we enjoyed our stay -- we often chatted in the back yard, which gave us the sense that we were staying with old friends and provided wonderful insight into New Orleans. When we come back to New Orleans, this is where we will want to stay.
Bernie was an amazing host. This was our first Airbnb experience and we are so glad to have had it with Bernie! The four of stayed for four nights in Bernie's beautiful house. It was spacious, clean, and in a great location. The beds were wonderful too!
Bernie was there when you needed him. He was always smiling, always willing to provide info about his city. Bernie is not only passionate about New Orleans but passionate about helping us love his city too! Bernie gave great recommendations for restaurants and bars. He supplied fruits and Kashi granola bars which was a nice touch. We even got a lift to the Garden District.
Highly recommend staying with Bernie and Rick. I especially enjoyed my conversations with Bernie about about food and culture.
Thank you both for a wonderful experience. We will be back!
We had a wonderful time at Bernie's. He told us everything we needed to know about places to eat, local history, secret places in the Bywater and more. The apartment was clean, comfortable and charming with high ceilings and plenty of light. We found the Bywater neighborhood delightful and highly walkable with knock-your-socks-off restaurants on every block. We loved riding Bernie's bikes into the French Quarter and back - a real plus. One warning: If you don't love second-hand smoke, stay upwind from Bernie while he's entertaining you on the back stoop.
Bernie is the best host! Upon our arrival he was warm and welcoming. He gave us a lot of great ideas on what to do in New Orleans. He kept on tabs with us to make sure everything was great in our rooms and even joined us for a fun night out. He made it so great there we didn't want to leave! We highly recommend Bernie and "Creole Attic" to everyone!
Bernie is a superb host! We felt welcomed from the very first second we met him. The very best! His wonderful Creole Attic is tasteful, comfortable, and even homey. Bernie is so very knowledgeable about all things New Orleans and Louisiana. I honestly cannot say enough about how terrific it was to rent his Creole Attic. Did I mention the central air? Delish!
About the Host, Bernie
Fifth generation New Orleanian with a heart full of love for our city. My greatest joy is helping visitors make the most of their trip, since there are so many hidden gems that only a local would know about. I'm a laid back easy going guy with an adventurous spirit. My partner is an Illinois farm boy that has put down his roots here too. We both come from big wonderful families.
