Two bedroom traditional house set in a leafy garden with secure parking. Suitable for singles, families, business or students.
This is part of a Balinese family home and Yok, Emily's husband , is on site to help in addition to the free wi-fi !
Built in the early 1970’s by my husband’s father to accommodate his family of 10 this house would have been seen as the epitome of modern Indonesian architecture surrounded by verdant green rice fields on the main road into the city. It is now in Denpasar city central BUT it is still very well placed if you need easy access to Denpasar, Sanur, Seminyak and Ubud and you will definitely experience an authentic modern day Balinese family vibe and see very few tourists!
My husband Yok is your local host and he is on hand to give you his own unusual take on life in Bali after 10 years living in England!
I would particularly recommend it for someone looking for a safe place to stay whilst needing to be close to the city and it is also a good place to start or finish your travels. It is safe and offers value for money for a group of people.
The property is now divided between the 3 sons and our third is to the rear, farthest away from the road. It is a simple open plan space consisting of a living room with kitchen area surrounded by a leafy green garden. There is a double bedroom with large open air bathroom and a second bedroom that sleeps 3 people.
In the living space there is a television and DVD player with a sofa and coffee table, a dining table with chairs, a desk and a basic kitchen with sink, fridge, double gas hob and toaster.
The double bedroom has a large double bed with a cool kapok mattress, cotton sheets, a hanging rail for clothes and a powerful overhead fan combined with old fashioned wooden louvre windows for ventilation.
The large bathroom is built of stone and terrazzo with a nice hot shower and wash basin with a large mirror. There is plenty of space for hand washing and drying towels and clothes. The second bedroom has a single bed and twin bunks plus a large fan.
Added bonus’s include :
1. FREE WI FI
2.The proximity of a very tasty little “Warung” run by my husband’s mother and sisters at the front of the property serving super fresh and very good value “nasi kuning” and “nasi bunkus” every morning.
3.The security provided by being part of a Balinese household and the location of the house at the back of the property.
4.Safe off road parking on site.
5. Yok’s local knowledge of Bali and Indonesia and the fact that he lived in England for 10 years so has an understanding of Western culture and speaks reasonable English.
6. Yok offers an airport transfer service and help with other transport issues.
7. Close to the public bus service operated on the by pass and bemo routes into Denpasar.
The down side is that Denpasar is a very noisy city. It is particularly noisy from about 7am - 9am during motorbike rush hour and many Balinese start work much earlier at 5am so this is not a good place for late risers. However it is quite relaxing during the day and a pleasant place to be in the evenings. This is not a tourist area so there is generally not late night music or drunken street noise.
Guests have a large open plan living space, kitchen and garden as well as the bedroom and (email hidden)e only room you need to share with Yok is the bathroom IF you are staying more than 3 days. There are alternative facilities in the compound but he prefers to use his own bathroom if possible. He is quick and clean! If you want complete privacy in the living areas that is fine.
Interaction with Guests
I have to be in England quite a lot for my work so my Balinese husband, Yok is normally your host. He is happy to sit down and talk with you over a coffee or respect your privacy and leave you to enjoy the living room and kitchen on your own. However his unique take on Balinese life and his own experience in the west ( he lived in England for 10 years! ) means he is a useful source of information if you need it .
The strategic location of the property on a main road into Denpasar city and on the East side close to the by-pass makes it easy to travel to all parts of the island from here and it is a great place to start your travels with a taste of the real modern day Bali. There is a convenience store opposite and various 'local' style supermarkets nearby as well as the traditional markets and food sellers all along the main road. There are local buses into the main Denpasar market and the night market. Yok offers airport transfers and local transport advice and if the dates work he can often provide private tours too. There is also free Wi-Fi at the property.
You can get buses and taxis from here most of the time and it is a short walk down to the main by pass where there are public buses going South all the way down to Nusa Dua.
Other Things to Note
The property is located on main road , Jalan W R Supratman. It is very easy to find. See the main description of the space for further details.
The house is private but you will staying as part of a family compound. Life is generally pretty relaxed and we hope you enjoy the experience of living as part of an authentic Balinese city household.
Emily and Yok are AMAZING hosts. Yok picked us up from the airport very late at night and took us back to their lovely and welcoming and safe homely home. We were sleeping in a very comfortable big bed to the sounds of rain and frogs it was very peaceful and for our first night in Bali we felt so safe. Emily and Yok were happy to speak with us about anything and everything and we had a delicious breakfast at the Warung out the front of their house which is run by Yoks family. We highly recommend eating there. All in all a perfect stay and I hope we can go back there again soon!!
We choose the place to get advices at the beginning of our journey in Bali. We talk a lot with Yok, it was very instructive to visit with him temples and markets in Denpasar. We enjoy our discussions during this day.
We arrived at the home from the airport @0200 & Yok was there to greet us. Great man who truly made this overnight for us. We ate at his family's warung out front & discussed daily Balinese life & received tips and pointers on where to stay. He truly made this night great for us. ! Thank you Yok!
We spent 2 days in Emily's place, where her husband Yok welcomed us. He was very funny and showed us a very local restaurant where we had a great dinner together.
It was a very nice welcome. Emily's husband, yok, pick me up at the airport, he speaks very good english ! The place is like on the picture nice comfortable and clean with bathroom, big bed, kitchen, wifi and fruits in the garden :-)
The place is realy nice with a simple bedroom and big outside bathroom. With the living room and kitchen you have a lot of space for youself. Yok is a great host, he can teach you a lot about Bali! Great place to stay!
We had a wonderful Time with Yok. He was very Open-minded and Great to Talk to. He gave us a very warm welcome At The Airport. The room was Good, we especially loved The Open mandi. Yok Took us on a Day Trip around Denpasar which included The Sunset At Tanah Lot. We talked and laughed a Lot, so: a Perfect Way to come to Bali!
