Welcome to this Artist's home in the Arts District of Ottawa. The 'artist's studio' atmosphere is cheerfully colourful, yet comfortable & homey. This active couple can help you discover bike, hike, trail run, ski, skate, paddle, arts & cultural activities in the Ottawa area.
Guests will share our entire home. The house is well-laid-out, cosy, well maintained and nicely updated. The only off-limit spaces are private bedrooms (we have an extra if needed), the office & some of the artist studio space. You are welcome to use all the common spaces, but please tidy up after yourself. Laundry, meals, parking & extra cleaning are negotiable for extra fees.
Interaction with Guests
We both work at home during the day & are out (doing something active) most evenings & weekends. You will be invited to join us if we're doing something that we can include you in.
This is a friendly, upscale neighbourhood where we know everybody. We are one block from the Great Canadian Theatre Company on Wellington & we walk to everything we need: groceries; farmer's market; specialty shopping; churches; theaters; galleries; and a HUGE variety of cafes, restaurants & pubs - this artsy 'hood is also known as "Ottawa's Gastro Alley"!
WALKING: Everything you might need can be found within a few blocks from our home.
PUBLIC TRANSIT: We are 1 block from "Tunney's Pasture" Express OCTranspo Station with direct buses to airport, downtown, O-Train, VIA Train station & both universities.
BIKING: This is a bicycle-friendly city with bike rentals & routes very close by & networks throughout the city - biking is a great way to explore Ottawa!
DRIVING: We are EASY to find: just 4 km west of Parliament Hill, 1 km north of the Trans-Canada Highway and 1 km South of the Ottawa River which is the border between Ontario & Quebec, giving us fast access (20min drive) to Gatineau Park with 200+ km's of nature/hike//bike/ski/snowshoe trails. We paddle right here in town, or drive to 100's of clean lakes & rivers close by also.
PARKING available: There is free street parking right in front of the house. If you need to use our laneway, we'll charge a small extra fee - mostly to compensate for the fact that it's in-line so we'll have to ask you to leave an extra key so we can get our own car out if needed.
Other Things to Note
Once you book, we will send you Directions to our address along with our 'House Manual' with tons of helpful information. The Manual & our internet PW will also be in your room when you arrive.
We are friendly, active and environmentally-conscientious people. Our home is strictly NON-SMOKING.
BOOKING: Please clearly indicate your expected arrival/departure times as well as any additional needs (such as food, parking, kitchen, or laundry) - so there's no confusion as to what you'll be expecting from us. Please ensure your phone number is verified and that you have an actual PHOTO of yourself (your face) when requesting a booking -- we would like to be able to recognize who we are inviting into our home!
CHILDREN: Ours are 'grown & gone' (hence the extra bedrooms). We love kids & enjoy well behaved ones, but the house is no longer 'child-proof'. Youth who will heed the rules are welcome.
We have no PETS & although we love them too, Lynette has allergies, so we cannot welcome yours into our home.
Please do not wear outdoor FOOTWEAR inside our home. We have guest slippers to lend you, if needed.
We ask guests to not eat FOOD in the bedrooms - please use our kitchen & dining spaces.
Hospitable, clean and comfortable. What more do you need?, surrounded by art and in a great location.
My stay with Lynette and Laco was wonderful!
I was welcome in their house for almost a month, during a time that was hugely important for me professionally during a medical clerkship. L&L were very kind and supportive during this time, making a comfortable environment for me to relax in after stressful days. On the weekends, they invited me out to outdoor excursions with them, and they even helped me, a Floridian, skate on the Rideau canal! They gave me great advice on how to find everything I would ever need in the neighborhood before I even arrived, and did everything imaginable to make me feel at home when I was there. A true home away from home- I will surely come back whenever I am in Ottawa again. Thanks Lynette and Laco!
Lynnette and Laco were wonderful hosts. The room was clean and cozy. They helped me with directions and taxis and the shared space is beautiful. I had a short stay but would recommend the listing to anyone.
they are really nice and the house is beautiful and perfect for living.
This was a great experience. First of all, what a beautiful home. Lynette is a fantastic acrylic artist (sort of like stained glass) and her and Laco's home is full of her work. Wonderful colours through all the windows. The room itself is comfortable and well appointed, with plenty of storage and little touches (including even night shirts if you didn't remember your pjs). Our hosts are welcoming, friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend it.
Other reviewers were absolutely right. Lynette and Laco are the most welcoming people imaginable. Their house is wonderful inside and out. The room they provided was big and comfortable. And they are located in a great residential area. Above all, they both made me feel entirely welcome, sharing their space and their stories. Highly recommended as a home away from home.
Lynette was very welcoming and friendly, and she made me feel at home right away. Her home is inviting and comfortable, located in a pleasant neighbourhood. I would definitely recommend staying here to friends. Lynette is a natural host.
Lynette is a professional artist (AcrylArt) and Laco is a software developer. We're passionate paddlers (LandLTrips) between ice-out and ice-in, and don our cross-country skis when the water is frozen. Laco is a marathoner and Lynette is an instructor in most types of canoeing. We also hike, jog/run & are general all-round outdoors-people. We are sociable, friendly, active, accommodating & easy-going. We love Canada, Ottawa, our neighbourhood, sharing it all, and we have great fun meeting new people.
Our home is clean, well-maintained and nicely updated. The artist studio atmosphere is cheerfully colourful, yet comfortable & homey. We both speak English; Lynette can struggle in French; and Laco speaks Slovak, Czech, and can struggle in Russian and Polish. More about us is easily found on the net(links are auto-deleted by AirBnb).
Life is short - paddle hard!
