About this listing

Dramatic home next to the historic Rimrock Ranch that was once owned by Mob Boss Sam Giancana and where Hollywood Director Victor Flemming escaped to. This is a comfy villa filled with patina from a bygone era. Walking distance to the Montezuma Well National Monument. Starry Nights and plenty of wildlife & livestock abound. It is now available for only one weekend or three weeknights per month due to the host's health issues.

Description

The space

Spend a "Night at the Museum" in this eclectic, comfy, home. There are two bed rooms and one bath available for guests. When there are more than two people, both rooms are available for the extra fee. One room has trundle, twin beds, the other has a small, antique, twin bed. I also keep a queen size air mattress around for larger groups. Smoking must be on the patio. Broadband, Direct TV, WI FI, W/D, and a private hot tub(May-Sept.). Montezuma Castle is just ten minutes to the South. The Red Rock Country is a mere 11 miles to the West. This area has the rare distinction of not only bordering National Park Land, but is located in a United Nations Biosphere.

The home has a well lit, island kitchen with dinette. I also have an impressive collection of American and Southwestern Art as well as Cavalry memorabilia. In the front room is a display of both "Dia de Los Muertos" and Hopi/Apache artifacts. Surrounding the formal dining room is an array of Art from the Impressionists, mid-century abstract, western, and some fine examples of a few contemporary Southwest Artists. There is a private trail on the property where guests are welcome to pray, meditate, sing, or just enjoy the view of Jerome to the West.
The Montezuma Well National Monument is walking distance from the home and is a great place for a picnic or to cool your feet in Beaver Creek.
There is a Barbecue, Diner, Cafe' and a Family Restaurant within a mile from the property.
Local friends include a Yoga Instructor, a masseuse, and a Swiss Chef, all whom are available with a 24 hour notice.
You won't find another location just 1/2 hour from Uptown Sedona, with this many amenities and history yet so close to a Wilderness Area.

Guest access

Kitchen, Hot Tub(May-Sept), Laundry, parking space, front parlor w/ fireplace, WI FI, flat screen, and the indigenous garden with nature trail are all available for my guests.

Interaction with guests

I Love to tell stories about my families' history in the Southwest along with the details of my art collection and military memorabilia.

The neighborhood

The neighborhood has much Hollywood and "Mobster" lore. What used to be a private enclave for "Movie Stars" is now occupied by an admix of retirees, artists, forestry employees, and construction journeymen. Adjacent to the Montezuma Well National Monument. The property is shadowed by a hill of cedar, pinion, scrub oak and mesquite. Starry Nights and plenty of wildlife. Which include javelina, deer, raccoon, and the rare ringtail.

Getting around

The home is very close to HWY 17. There is a local bus service which only travels from Rimrock & Lake Montezuma to Camp Verde which is 11 miles to the South. The last 1/2 mile to the home is a ranch (gravel) road.

Other things to note

There's always fresh Colombian Coffee and/or several teas available each morning. You will never run out of bathroom tissue and each guest receives a fresh bar of moisturizing soap and there is a new blow dryer/curling iron in the bath as well. The bathroom was re decorated with new cabinets, fixtures, and art last year. Included are many extra pillows, blankets, and towels for each room.

House Rules
No smoking
Not suitable for pets
May not be safe or suitable for children (0-12 years)
Check in time is 2PM - 10PM
Check out by 12PM (noon)

CHECK IN: between Noon and Midnight. On Wednesdays & Sundays it must be after 5pm! SATURDAY check ins are EVENING only. All smoking must be on the front patio or the veranda out back. There is no smoking in the house. No cats are allowed because the host has a bad allergy. The house is not safe for children. There is much freedom as long as you respect the serene area of the location and the "chill" vibe of the home. Let me know if you're going to stay out late, so that I may lend you a key and not be woken up at 3am. Don't forget that a cantankerous, elderly, terrier and a flock of chickens also live here and my neighbors own livestock (cattle & horses) so there are the normal farm animal sounds. I must emphasize that this is a RANCH area. That means DIRT ROADS and LIVESTOCK scent . I can not change these conditions. Please don't book with me only to complain about any of the above after you check out. If you want cows and wildlife you also must make some sacrifices.

You must also acknowledge
Other pet(s) lives in the house

Robert was a great host. Here's what you can expect booking from him (which I recommend): 1. It's quite a distance from Sedona. But at this rate, it's a great value. Besides - the drive to and from day and night is beautiful. 2. Good coffee in the morning. 3. Home is great if you plan to be out and about from morning til nighttime. There is nothing of interest around the home, but inside the home - Robert has a colorful personality and has plenty of stories he loves to share if you care to listen. Also, Robert is a park ranger and can recommend the best places to visit if you're unsure.

Response from Robert:
1) "Story Teller"- Yes, I love sitting up late with my guests, sharing the local lore of Indians, Movie Stars, and Gangsters. 2) "Custom Home"- This means that my home is a "one of a kind" and not a tract home. I live here. 3) "Rural/Ranch Area"- For most travelers this would mean that the area is not well developed and the roads are either cinder, gravel, or dirt. If you wish to be near the fine dining and "new age centers" then I'm not for you. On the other hand, if you want to be close to the National Monuments, wildlife, and horse back riding, then I'm your man.

Robert is an amazing individual and an even better host. He is one of the "pioneers" of airbnb, and it reflects in his willingness to accommodate to his guests. His house is beautiful and close to every major attraction in the region as well as a major highway. He is extraordinarily knowledgable and we absolutely loved hanging out with him in our down time. I would absolutely recommend this spot to anyone outdoorsry looking to explore the area or just passing through. 5 out of 5 stars across the board.

Robert is a wonderful host, very welcoming communicative and nice. His home is a museum and he has so many interesting stories to tell. Each night time flew by talking and chatting. We came as guests and left as friends. If you are in the Sedona area and are looking for a unique place to stay - this is the place to go. Montezuma Well is around the corner - which is a must see once you are there. And we enjoyed every time driving into Sedona because of the great scenery. The best hikes are just 10 to 15 min away.

Robert is a really interesting person! Many amazing experiences to share. His home was very comfortable, quiet and convenient to Sedona. His knowledge of the Native tribes and their history was particularly significant to me. Not only that I got a private tour of the Montezuma Well... As a newcomer to Airbnb, he was a great 2nd host...Thank you Robert!

I am completely out of my mind, but I make one heck of a host! I truly love to share my home with inquisitive people from around the world. With an ethnic background of Basque, Mexican, & White Mountain Apache, I can say without any reservation that I am 100% Southwestern. I enjoy sharing my knowledge of both the history as well as the geography of the area. I am a former professional entertainer/producer, and have a fantastic collection of vinyl records in my Juke Box for my guest's to enjoy. From Sun Label to Motown I've got them. I also spent some time in my youth working for the Government and am also very proud of my Parents' service. I used to travel on a regular basis to both Cabo San Lucas and Hawaii. I have also had three memorable trips to Paris and one to Prague. Next on my "Wish List" is the Isle of Patmos. Today I love to care for my plants and animals and spend extra time on my manuscript. My home's interior is an admix of an Old Spanish Chapel, some Tex-Mex flavor, a Cavalry/Cowboy bunk house, and of course the Native American Kiva. If you're looking for something off the beaten path and just 1/2 hour from "uptown" Sedona, this is the place.
