Dramatic home next to the historic Rimrock Ranch that was once owned by Mob Boss Sam Giancana and where Hollywood Director Victor Flemming escaped to. Adjacent to the Montezuma Well National Monument. Starry Nights and plenty of wildlife & livestock.
Dramatic home next to the historic Rimrock Ranch that was once owned by Mob Boss Sam Giancana and where Hollywood Director Victor Flemming escaped to. There are two bed rooms and one bath available for guests. When there are more than two people, both rooms are available for the extra fee. One room has a trundle bed, the other has a small, antique, brass bed. I also keep a queen size air mattress around for larger groups. Smoking must be on the patio. Broadband, Direct TV, WI FI, W/D, and a private hot tub(May-Sept.). Montezuma Castle is just ten minutes to the South. The Red Rock Country is a mere 11 miles to the West. This area has the rare distinction of not only bordering National Park Land, but is located in a United Nations Biosphere.
The home has a beautiful and functional kitchen. I also have an impressive collection of American and Southwestern Art as well as Cavalry memorabilia.. In the front room is a display of both "Dia de Los Muertos" and Hopi/Apache artifacts. Surrounding the formal dining room is an array of Art from the Impressionists, mid-century abstract, western, and some fine examples of a few contemporary Southwest Artists. There is a private trail on the property where guests are welcome to pray, meditate, sing, or just enjoy the view of Jerome to the West.
The Montezuma Well National Monument is walking distance from the home and is a great place for a picnic or to cool your feet in Beaver Creek.
There is a Steak House, Bistro, and Bar & Grill within a mile from the property.
Local friends include a Yoga Instructor, a masseuse, and a Swiss Chef, all whom are available with a 24 hour notice.
You won't find another location just 1/2 hour from Uptown Sedona, with this many amenities and history yet so close to a Wilderness Area.
Kitchen, Hot Tub(May-Sept), Laundry, parking space, front parlor w/ fireplace, WI FI
Interaction with Guests
I Love to tell stories about the history of the Southwest and the details of my art collection.
The neighborhood has much Hollywood and "Mobster" lore. What used to be a private enclave for "Movie Stars" is now occupied by an admix of retirees, artists, forestry employees, and construction journeymen. Adjacent to the Montezuma Well National Monument. The property is shadowed by a hill of cedar, pinion, scrub oak and mesquite. Starry Nights and plenty of wildlife. Which include javalina, deer, raccoons, and the rare cotamundi.
The home is very close to HWY 17. There is a local bus service which only travels from Rimrock & Lake Montezuma to Camp Verde which is 11 miles to the South.
Other Things to Note
There's always fresh Colombian Coffee and/or several teas available each morning. You will never run out of bathroom tissue and each guest receives a fresh bar of moisturizing soap and there is a new blow dryer in the bath as well. The bathroom was re decorated with new cabinets, fixtures, and art last year. I also offer many extra pillows and blankets in each closet.
Please check in between Noon and Midnight. All smoking must be on the front patio or the veranda out back. Please respect my rule of no smoking in the house. No cats are allowed because the host has a bad allergy. The house is not safe for young children. There is much freedom as long as you respect the serene space of the area and the "chill" vibe of the home. Let me know if you're going to stay out late, so that I may lend you a key and not be woken up at 3am. Don't forget that a vivacious terrier and a flock of chickens also live here and my neighbors own livestock(cattle & horses) so there are the normal farm animal sounds. One dog MAY be OK if they get along. If not I have the choice of either a dog run with an Igloo or the kennel in my garage. I will not TOLERATE any animal cruelty.
Robert was very helpful. It is a beautiful home with some incredible pieces that he shared with us.
Very interesting home with lots of good "stuff". Robert was very helpful with local info and is quite a character! Had a great time.
Robert was very pleasant to deal with. I didnt realize before booking the bedrooms didn't offer a bed for two people. The trundle bed was not great and it only had a flat sheet on one side with a very thin blanket. The place was clean and his dog very sweet. This place may be better suited for a single person. With a little extra work it would be ok.
I highly recommend this place to anyone and I will definitely be returning. Not only did Robert make us feel extremely welcome, he was super helpful in recommending places for us to visit. If you stay with him, you must ask him about his art and his family. He has a fascinating background! Oh! He has this jukebox with the coolest music (the Stones, Sinatra, and a whole bunch of oldies), so if you're into vinyl and music, you're set. Plus, he has a pretty cool literature collection and some awesome war memorabilia. The home truly has character and you'll see why when you meet Robert!
My friend and I had a wonderful stay with Robert. His home is charming and filled with the coolest collection of memorabilia. Robert himself is fascinating to talk to with a wealth of stories and history to share. We followed his excellent recommendation on a day trip around Sedona and could not be happier overall with our experiences. I feel lucky to have found such a friendly and hospitable host. We hope to be back again soon!
We were warmly welcomed by Robert and enjoyed a very comfortable stay at his house. The house is beautiful. Our room was clean and comfortable, and the bathroom, which we had to ourselves, was also very clean. Robert offered me a great tip for a scenic drive which was much appreciated. I would recommend his place to anyone who's visiting the area!
Robert is welcoming and accommodating. The location is near a couple National Monuments (cliff dwellings) and only a half hour from Sedona. He gave great suggestions for exploring the area.
I am completely out of my mind, but I make one heck of a host! I truly love to share my home with inquisitive people from around the world. With an ethnic background of Basque, Mexican, & White Mountain Apache, I can say without any reservation that I am 100% Southwestern. I enjoy sharing my knowledge of both the history as well as the geography of the area. I am a former professional entertainer/producer, and have a fantastic collection of vinyl records in my Juke Box for my guest's to enjoy. From Sun Label to Motown I've got them. I also spent some time in my youth working for the Government and am also very proud of my Parents' service. I used to travel on a regular basis to both Cabo San Lucas and Hawaii. I have also had three memorable trips to Paris and one to Prague. Next on my "Wish List" is the Isle of Patmos. Today I love to care for my plants and animals and spend extra time on my manuscript. My home's interior is an admix of Old Spanish, Tex-Mex, Cavalry/Cowboy, and of course Native American artifacts. If you're looking for something off the beaten path and just 1/2 hour from "uptown" Sedona, this is the place.
