Private space just steps away from Dupont, Adams Morgan, U Street, and 14th Street. You have your own entrance and bathroom, and the space is locked off from the rest of the apartment -- so it's all yours. Clean and cozy!
This view shows your private entrance from the alley (Note: the black keyboard is no longer there, and the artwork is different)
DESCRIPTION: This room has its own private entrance, its own in-room private bath (shower/toilet/sink), and in-room fridge and microwave. Free WiFi is available. The room has high ceilings, hardwood floors, central air (for the summer), radiating heat (for the winter), a security alarm system (for safety), a "breakfast nook" (bar table and chairs), and a queen-sized futon bed (with double-thick futon mattress) that also folds up into a comfortable couch. Also included for convenience is an ironing board and iron, hooks and hangers, hairdryer, plates/cups/napkins/silverware, hot water kettle, and a set of first aid and extra toilettries and cleaning supplies in the bathroom. Towels and linens provided.
PRIVACY: This space has its own exterior entrance and is locked away from the rest of the apartment, so it might as well be its own apartment. I debated between listing it as "Private Room" or "Full Apartment" - but because there is not a full kitchen, I decided "Private Room" is more accurate. The space was originally used as a home office, and no one who came for meetings could even tell it was part of a larger apartment, because of its own entrance, bathroom, and lock-off capability. You will never know either!
LOCATION: This space is on the first floor of a 3-story, brick Victorian home in the northern part of the historic Dupont Circle neighborhood.
PARKING: There is no dedicated parking, and you may not park in the alley behind the building. There is some on-street parking in the neighborhood, but you have to be very careful to read the signs and understand the limitations for any given spot. There are garages available for paid parking.
Guests will have access to this room, a rear private entrance, a private bathroom/shower, WiFi, microwave, fridge, iron, hot water kettle, towels, linens, hairdryer, and interesting book collection (for in-room reading only, please!).
The rest of the apartment is on the other side of a locked door, so there is no access to the full kitchen or the other living space.
NOTE: This space is not handicapped accessible. There are about 5 exterior steps leading up to the private entrance.
Interaction with Guests
I set this up to be a very private space, so that you do not feel the need to interact with me at all, but I am very happy to answer questions or address any issues or problems you might have.
The house is just a few steps away from several ethnic restaurants and shops, including Thai, Mexican/Cuban, Korean, Mediterranean, and a chocolatier. It is also just a 1-minute walk away from the U Street jazz corridor and Adams Morgan. In addition, the house is about a 5-to-7-minute walk from Dupont Circle itself, a 5-to-7-minute walk to the vibrant 14th Street corridor, and a 5-minute walk to Connecticut Avenue restaurants and shops.
The apartment is about a 5-7 minute walk from Dupont Circle metro station (red line), about a 7-10 minute walk to U Street metro station (green line), and easy access to the buses that run on U Street, Connecticut Ave, or 16th Street.
It also normally takes only a minute or two to find a cab on any of the surrounding streets and intersections.
People often ask about parking. This is a neighborhood with a lot of parking demand. There is on-street parking, but you have to read the signage very carefully. There are lots of different limitations, depending where you park.
Other Things to Note
Please note that the alarm system is for the whole apartment, so I am also turning it on and off as I come and go from my half of the apartment, just like you are as you come and go. I'll give you detailed directions on how to use the alarm when you book. It's pretty easy!
- NON-SMOKERS ONLY (that also means no smoking outside and then coming inside, please!)
- No pets allowed
- Alarm system must be set when leaving (every time)
- No more than 2 guests total
- No more than 3 weeks total stay
- Please do not bring other, outside guests into the space
- I have central air conditioning, so please don't open the windows and waste energy
I liked the place very much. The location of the place is very practical (Metro) and the neighborhood (Dupont) is great.
I had a wonderful time in DC staying at Will's apartment. It was exactly what I needed while visiting for my sisters wedding. As you can see from the pictures, it's a beautiful sunny room at the back of a townhouse on a lovely tree lined street in a wonderful neighborhood. Having the private entrance was great and Will made sure to send very clear and detailed instructions for retrieving the key and accessing the apartment. Also, I found parking very easy. All the parking I saw was 2hrs up until 8:30pm Monday-Friday, so if you are staying over the weekend, you can park at 6:30pm and not need to move your car again until Monday!
Will's place was very clean and quiet. The futon was comfortable and the linens and comforter he provided were plenty warm on a 30 degree night.
Although I didn't meet Will in person, he was incredibly understanding and easy to communicate with. A great host for your next trip to The Capitol.
Had a great stay at Will's place, it's located in a nice neighbourhood close to some lively spots in DC. Everything was as expected and communication with Will was perfect. Would stay again, thanks!
We had a great stay at Will's place! The location is perfect and everything was spotless. Will was very flexible and helpful when we wanted to extend our stay..
The place is not perfect if you ha e a car though, street parking is hard to find and garages are expensive.
I would definitly stay here again!
Will's place was exactly what I needed for a short trip to DC! The futon was very comfortable, with plenty of blankets and pillows. I had a busy few days and wasn't able to spend much time there, but the location and neighborhood were perfect for walking back alone late. Some nice details like a kettle, cutlery and plates, and toiletries were especially appreciated. Will was a great host!
A nice, clean comfortable (but small) apartment in a great neighborhood. Walk to great bars, restaurants, coffee shops, even a nice long stroll to the Capital monuments. Safe and secure, though parking in the area is tricky, look for a parking garage if you are bringing your car. Very private, didn't see Will at all, though he was available for questions by phone.
Our stay at Will's place was perfect. The room is not big but comfortable. It's situated in a really nice street, with a lot of restaurants and bars. Will is a great host, he provided us with everything we needed! We would really recommand Will's place! Thank you!
ABOUT ME: I am a human rights attorney living in Washington, DC since 2004. My favorite spots in the world include the Dalmatian coast, the North Shore of Kaua'i, and the sand dune beaches in Michigan. I like traveling away from crowds, tour groups, and huge families.
GUEST: This probably sounds like bragging or pandering, but I am the kind of guest that doesn't feel right unless I leave a place even cleaner than when I arrived. Even in hotels I make the bed and fold up the towels. I don't know why.
HOST: As a host, I want to be sure that you have what you need and what you expect, and don't have any unpleasant surprises or unmet expectations. Again, your towels will be folded. That's just how I roll.
