welcome to my apt.
It was a pleasant stay at Morgan's apartment. Morgan and his mother are very helpful and kind. Morgan is very responsive to our inquiry and he always try his best to provide assistance and suggestion for us. The location is really good, subway and bus station just downstairs and my parents enjoyed the breakfast at the food stalls downstairs. Would like to recommend this apartment if you want to experience Xi'an culture more.
Great location as the building sits on the metro/subway with a supermarket and really inexpensive Chinese food court in the basement. There is also a food alley at night which has a great atmosphere. Morgan and his mom are great to deal with and they are quick to respond to any questions you may have. The kitchen is not really functional so not ideal for cooking outside boiling water. This is a good budget accommodation.
Perfect location and accommodations. Big clean room. Morgan's wife was beyond helpful in explaining what to do. Even lent us bus cards. Their mom drove us to the airport. Our recommendation is eating at the Muslim section. The 'burger' place with the discover channel pictures was incredible. Also, have to try the potatoes. Initially, were a little weary about eating on the street but it was explained that they have a reputation to hold and all of their food is safe.
There's a lot to say about this place. The location is super convenient: 2 subway stops from Xian 's drum and bell tower and the Muslim quarter. It is also around the corner from a morning street breakfast vendors' "strip" where we had great Shaanxi pancake sandwiches and dumplings and minutes' wall away from some wonderful bar-b-Que restaurants. Morgan--while based elsewhere--is super responsive by telephone. The apartment is super clean. And the hot water plentiful--important to shedding the grime of Xi'an's dusty air and to warming up from the bitter winter cold. (We don't share others' complaints about the cramped shower; it's what we've grown accustomed to in many countries.) The apartment is spacious and comfortable with fast wi-fi. What it is not is well equipped for people who want to cook and eat some of their meals there. A large kitchen but no real cooking utensils; no microwave. Was not a problem for us but could be for people who want a break from eating "out." The largest problem for us was the fact that the place had obviously been occupied previously by smokers and reeked of cigarette smoke. We had not thought to check on this when we booked (our fault obviously) and once we got into the room we didn't take the time to find out if Morgan had another apartment which was maintained as non-smoking. The air quality (or lack thereof) made what might have been a wonderful stay considerably less than that. Again, this was OUR fault. not Morgan's! But it was an important lesson for our future Airbnb bookings. We won't forget to ask whether the space has been occupied by smokers in the past.
We found Morgan's apartment very comfortable, located in the center of a fascinating neighborhood. Storage was great, the wifi was fast, and the apartment was very clean. And Morgan was always accessible by phone--his English is perfect.
Unfortunately pickups are impossible from the train station and it is difficult to get a taxi. But Morgan's mother met us in front of the building. She also took us to the train station when we left.
Comfortable, clean apartment in a very convenient location! Morgan was not in town, but he was very quick to respond to inquiries and helped us get in touch with his mother and wife, who were in town and also responded quite promptly. The apartment is located right by the subway entrance (exit the building and take a left, and it's one building down), and around the corner there's a supermarket and a food court with tasty, inexpensive food. Morgan's mother also gave us three subway passes to use and recharge.
The main drawback was that the shower area is extremely cramped (the shower-head basically overlooks the toilet), and there is no shower curtain (though this is pretty standard in China). The shower water gets all over the toilet, and the entire bathroom floor stays wet for a while after showering. The wifi was also pretty slow at times.
Though Morgan's mother was extremely helpful and eager to take us around the city in her car, the subway goes straight to several of the city's attractions and would have been a much cheaper option. Also, we got a taxi to the airport for 100 RMB, so call a cab on the street or haggle a bit with his mother if you want to save some money.
