A great place to stay! Everything was really nice and clean, and premium bed and duvet/cushions;) Modern house with everything you need. Clean towels and fresh coffee and fruit every morning. Our last night Alfie invited us to a local place nearby, and we met some of his friends (Nice to meet you!) Very warm and funny people, but no pressure if you would rather spend the time on your own. Our best recommendations!
Amazing experience, Alfie and Kenji are really professional, they give us a lot of advice and privacy which is very awesome . The house is unbelievable clean you have found everything that you need in first floor and second-floor. The milk ,juice , green tea, hot tea are all very good, we can have some bread , fruit, and some coffee for breakfast. The location is very good six minutes away from the subway station but very quiet . There is Chinese restaurant in the neighborhood and they have the 7-Eleven in the neighborhood too ,but the first day we came here we found the wrong house, it was another house front of kenji &Alfie 's house.
Alfie was a great host! He helped us figure out how to get places and gave recommendations for restaurants and activities at several occasions. The room we lived in was cosy and had ac in it so we never got to hot. Overall it was a great experience, I would recommend this place to anyone traveling to Tokyo!
Our stay at Alfie's Urban Tokyo House was perfect. Absolutely no negative observations at all (which is rare!). Accommodation is top notch. The host is always available 24/7 by email to help; and is genuinely pleased to do so. Alfie organises your coffee and pastry-based breakfast each morning, for a time that you tell him (or email him) the day before. This apartment is right next (11 min walk) to a local subway station (Kanamecho), from which you can access the entire of Tokyo. In fact we easily travelled from there to all parts of Tokyo, Mount Fuji, bus tours departing from near from Tokyo station (main station in the city), and Osaka. We bought a Pasmo pre-paid subway card, which removed the need to buy subway tickets, which made life very easy - just swipe and travel, and swipe at the far end (like the UK oyster card). Alfie has numerous maps and guides available, in case you are looking for extra ideas for venues to visit. He is an affable chap, and is genuinely eager to help make your experience as fun as possible. The photos are a true representation of how aesthetically beautiful and comfortable the apartment actually is. There is washing facilities available, and it is easy to use (Alfie has labeled the buttons 1,2,3!). As you leave the subway station on your return each evening, there is a convenience store right there, where you can buy reasonably priced food and drinks. We are from the UK, and we found the food prices ridiculously cheap in comparison to home.
Sorry if this review was a little rambling, but our trip to Tokyo was so enjoyable, it's hard to try and summarise to in 500 words!
Finally, we are definitely going to return and use Alfie's apartment again as part of a future trip to Japan in the next 1-2 years. That is the best recommendation that we can give.
Alfie has been a very kind host, and the house was remarkably clean and tidy. It was a pleasure to spend three nights at his place!
About the Host, Alfie
Born & raised in Texas but based in Tokyo now. Run airbnb with my Japanese businesss partner, Kenji. Early 30's, mature, respectful professionals who work hard but know how to enjoy life. With our Southern/Texas & Japanese backgrounds, hospitality comes quite naturally to us. I studied abroad in Bangkok, Thailand and Paris, France and Kenji studied abroad in NYC during our university days so definitely have a global perspective on things.
Interested in traveling, photography, skin care, cooking, home renovation & interior design. Spent about 3 years designing and renovating the house. Our design aesthetic is clean, modern and uncluttered; a bit Japanesey with a mid-century modern flair. Although we are done with most of our interior design projects, we are continuously looking for ways to improve the comfort and design of our space.
We love good quality food/ingredients, nice wine, and Japanese beer. We have a particular weakness for champagne & macarons. We also love collecting good quality cookware and kitchen gadgets and have a small but growing collection of Japanese knives and handmade Japanese ceramic dinnerware. Love watching cooking & design shows and never get tired of a good old-fashioned make-over.
I fell in love with Tokyo when I first moved here and haven't stopped being amazed by the city every single day. Best place in the world for food, fashion, and shopping as far as I'm concerned. The most fulfilling part of having guests for me is that it gives me the opportunity to help others discover the city and fall in love with it too.
