Henk & Carolien are amazing hosts, always there to help you with any activities or Soda/Restaurant recommendation. Heliconia island is magical place to watch birds, monkeys and other interaction of wild flora and fauna of rain forest. We highly recommend stay there more than 2-3 days as there are so many things to do. Ask about Frog heaven, La Selva biological station, River rafting etc. At the island you can enjoy swimming in the river and bird watching at the breakfast which is included and delicious!
The botanical garden B&B was beautiful. We were able to see a sloth, toucan, and lots of birds in the beautiful gardens. The accommodations were comfortable and hosts were welcoming.
Lovely little European-style B&B in a beautiful setting on the river. We stayed in one of the rooms rather than the family apartment, but it was very quiet; we heard no noise from the adjacent room. Simple but clean and comfortable (although note that our bed was two twins close together with a small gap between, so it's not as comfy for a couple to snuggle on as a true queen/king bed). Very helpful hosts, Carolien and Henk even made reservations for us at La Selva for an afternoon hike (since our phones did not work out of the US). There are some short walking trails on the island, and on the longer, more distant one, we came across a small family of howler monkeys directly above us in the trees. We also saw one or two white-faced monkeys right by the reception/dining area. Plus toucans and iguanas and vine snakes and tons of birds. Tons of mosquitoes in the evening, so bring repellent! Highly recommended.
We really enjoyed the beautiful garden at Heliconia Island, we saw lots of wildlife and flowers. You can easily spend the day here, just strolling around the garden, watching all the hummingbirds fly by or taking a dip in the river.
The B&B is a nice small scale place, it feels really personal. The hosts are happy to tell you everything about the animals and point them out to you. Great place to stay, quite close to the beautiful Braullio Carillo national park. You can hear the road (jakebreaking truckers) when in the cabina, so bring your earplugs for the night.
Heliconia Island is a fabulous place to stay. The garden and grounds are immaculate and the rooms are very well maintained. Henk and Carolien are very knowledgeable about the attractions in the area and happy to share their experience. They serve a hearty breakfast and one could spend the whole day bird watching from the porch. Our plans changed at the last minute so we actually booked the place the night before we arrived and they were very responsive to the hasty plans.
We were here for two nights and went to the Tirimbina Biological Research Station and also the Frog Heaven, both of which were most worthwhile
What a beautiful place to stay! Henk and Carolien were kind, warm, and knowledgeable hosts who gave brilliant recommendations for things to do or places to see while I was in the area. The room was beautifully decorated and wonderfully maintained. Breakfast was wonderful. The island is gorgeous. I loved walking around and viewing all the birds, frogs, plants, sloths, and more. It is also pretty close to some rather good places to eat too if you look. A truly great experience.
Henk and Carolien have a beautiful space in Sarapiqui. Although my mother and I were not there for a long time, we enjoyed our stay immensely. Especially bird watching during breakfast. I would highly suggest staying at this magical B&B.
