The Fishack is a harborfront residential complex that includes three separate lodging options available either separately for small parties or together for groups. All are available for short-mid term rentals. The three-story home is situated on the edge of the Puerto Jimenez harbor and while less than one kilometer walking from downtown is separated from the Puerto Jimenez center by the mangrove estuary of Quebrada Cacao, which runs through town. As such, despite the proximity to town, from the third floor pool deck the only thing visible on the western horizon are the tops of the mangroves bounding the swamp. The home is supported by a caretaker family that lives beside the property with round-the-clock support and security. It is separated from the harbor road by a tangle of front-yard tropical ornamentals and a gated stone fence. The back of the property overlooks the mangrove swamp and from the balconies, caimans and crocodiles can frequently be observed sunning themselves in the shallows. A profusion of water birds call the estuary home as well as a flock of thousands of orange-cheeked parrots, which daily burst from their nests in the swamp at dawn to spread into the interior of the peninsula to forage and return en masse just before dark in a symphony of bird calls of hundreds of mating pairs homeward bound for the evening.
The main home is a second story one bedroom apartment with a party deck with swimming pool upstairs. The single master bedroom a queen size bed and adjoining bath, and is air-conditioned. The kitchenette and dining area are joined to the living room, which has an alcove with two additional single beds. The main home is bounded by a verandah that wraps around the entire home for lounging areas with easy chairs. The third floor is the party deck and includes a roof top pool, living room set, dining table, swim up bar, stereo system, and both roofed and open air terraces, all bounded with a columned handrail and sporting superlative 360 degree views of the harbor and Golfo Dulce and the mangrove estuary behind the home. Wireless broadband Internet is provided. The Main House sleeps four in beds with expansion on foamies for an additional two people comfortable, four at a stretch, and the nightly rate is $150. There is no weekly discount for this home.
The downstairs apartment has a large living room, bedroom with queen-sized bed, and bathroom, all fully air conditioned, with wireless Internet but no kitchenette. An outdoor verandah overlooks the mangrove estuary and conduces in one direction to the large open-air kitchen shared with the Main House and in the opposite direction leads to the Casita, which is a separate wholly contained structure. The downstairs apartment sleeps two comfortably, with expansion room for up to two more on foamies. Whereas the downstairs apartment is made available upon request as a stand-alone rental for $75 per night, it is usually included with the Main House for a single large group, with both units available for $200 per night with no weekly discounts available.
Steps away from the main structure, the Casita is a recently remodeled two-story bungalow that features a second story loft sleeping area and a downstairs living area and kitchen. There is an outside roofed lounging area contiguous to the downstairs living room. A small second story porch affords a stunning view of the harbor, and the casita has wireless Internet service. The casita has a single double bed and is ideal for a single or a couple and has its own cooking facilities and refrigerator. The upstairs is air-conditioned. The home has a nightly rate of $100 and a weekly rate of $600.
All three facilities boast a full assortment of linens, cookware, plates, glasses. There is a single washing machine that serves the entire facility and clothes lines but no dryer. The main home is occupied seasonally by the owners and has wall hangings and ornamentation and character. The grounds are maintained daily by the staff that lives in the adjacent home and are present 24/7 for support as needed. The caretaker staff provides catering upon request as well as daily or semi-daily housekeeping as desired and laundry services, all at modest additional charges detailed in the rates and reservations page.
Because the Fishack is a short walk or taxi ride from the center of Puerto Jimenez, the air strip, grocery stores, and restaurants, a rental car is not a de rigueur compliment to those staying with us. However, to maximize an Osa Peninsula experience and to use the Fishack as a base for exploration of the peninsula's vast wealth of natural splendor, a rental car is a natural supplement.
