About this listing
Stay in one of Ventura's most unique homes with a whole section of it designed especially for our guests. If you are up for a fun, one of a kind experience, then we are the place for you! Enjoy the photo tour... (Ventura STVR Permit #2195)
Our beautiful art filled guest studio is clean, cozy and very private because it is detached from the main house. It is perfect for 1-2 guests. You will have a private entrance and a key to the guest studio so you can feel free to come and go as you wish. We are in an excellent Mid-Town location. Within a short walk you can be at a tasty family owned restaurant (including 4 of Ventura's best for breakfast) and less than 2 miles on bike or in your car you can be walking the scenic beach area by the historic pier or enjoying lively downtown.
Amenities inside the guest studio include wireless internet, mini-fridge, microwave, toaster, electric kettle, coffee maker, washer & dryer, iron & ironing board, fresh bedding, towels, robes, slippers. Outside you get your own little patio, shower and restroom with toiletries included. 2 fun beach cruisers are also available for you to borrow, makes for a great way to explore the area. Beach gear available includes towels, chairs, a cooler, umbrella, boogie boards and if one of our wetsuits fits you, your welcome to borrow that too. ;)
Interaction with Guests
We love meeting new people and we are usually here to greet you and show you around when you arrive. (If we will be away the day you arrive we will give you a code to get your key from the lockbox.) We respect your privacy during your stay but are also available should you need us for anything. Whenever possible we like to extend an invitation for you to join us for an evening around the firepit in the backyard (S'mores included). It's been a fun way to spend time with our guests and we are happy to give you suggestions on where to go depending on your interests. Our dog Daisy enjoys meeting new people too, but don't worry, she will only come over to the guest area at your invitation.
Our neighborhood is easy to find, just a few minutes from the freeway exit off Seaward Avenue between the beach and the hills and two central streets, Thompson and Main. We have friendly neighbors with a pleasant amount of activity; people walking their dogs, kids riding bikes to school and families pushing their babies along in strollers. Nights are generally quiet and calm.
Finding parking on the street right near the house is easy. If you don't want to use a car to get around you are welcome to borrow a bike. There are bus stops nearby and if you love walking you can be downtown or at the beach in about 30 minutes.
Other Things to Note

We do not charge extra for cleaning but there is a minimum 2 night stay.
Absolutely no smoking of any kind in or near the guest studio. Thank-you. Also, per city ordinances and out of respect for neighbors quiet time is 10 pm - 7 am.
We had such an amazing time at Claudette & Chris' place! The guest studio incl. the terrace is super clean and cozy, with many lovely details and a wonderful atmosphere! We loved biking to the beach and around the neighborhood. And Claudette and Chris are very inspiring and lovely people, with great stories, which they shared with us at a campfire. Host superstars!
This was my first booking through AirBnB and desperate to find reasonable accommodations for a 2-night (Friday & Saturday) for a bicycling event in Ventura. Claudette and Chris were very responsive once I booked and subsequent messages and questions were answered within minutes. The description and photos of this cozy studio is spot on! I think it would be perfect for a couple looking for something unique. The place is within walking distance of restaurants and only about 1 mile from downtown Ventura. I wish I could have stayed longer so I would get to know Claudette and Chris better--they were gracious and helpful hosts and the room and the space around it is really your own. Before I checked out I showed my companions the place and was amazed at the decor and unique features of this Storybook Studio. I highly recommend this place!
We just spent a week at the studio - it's room enough for 2. We used the very comfortable and cozy inside and extended it with the nice outside - wonderful plants, bistro table and seats for 2, a very private atmosphere everywhere, the western style designed outhouse was so funny. The whole house is a must see in its colors, style and art.
The small kitchen is good enough for breakfast preparation. We had been welcomed by a variety of tea, coffee, snacks, water.
You will find everything you need for your trips to the beautiful beaches of Ventura: Huge beach towels, sun umbrella, beach seats, short surf boards - they even had sun screen for us guests - I must be honest, we found it in our car on our drive home - sorry Claudette and Chris for un-intensionaly stealing it!
2 bicycles are ready for you trips around town or to the beaches.
We could sleep calmly leaving the door wide open, enjoying a cool breeze during night time. We found towels and gowns. You can walk shoeless because everything in- and outside is clean and tidy. So every thing is just well prepared even for guests who won't travel with luggage. I should not forget to mention the fantasy influenced paintings in the bedroom which we both liked very much.
But - the very best of it all for my wife and me: the outside shower!!! It's such a feeling of freedom to shower under open sky. Absolutely no problem going naked from the bedroom to the shower because everything is absolutely private - but you don't need to: there are bathrobes ready for you. And the water will keep the desired temperature exactly as you choose.
Claudette and Chris are very kind hosts. Even as they had a very busy week they invited us over Saturday night for a nice sitting together at the open fire. Claudette offers a delicious, hand crafted Lemonciello and Chris is telling fabulous stories - we laughed tears about the ones of your scottish grandma Chris.
Guests should definitely ask Chris to show his great leather art work!
Thank you Claudette and Chris so much, you made our vacation just perfect!
Also Ventura did everything to make this vacation
unforgettable. Wonderful beaches, a pier you can walk far out, harbor area, downtown with nice shops and restaurants - you should definitely try the Taj Cafe which cooks fresh Indian cuisine at its best. And a lot to do and see around.
We are happy and relaxed!
This was our first time in Ventura CA, and Chris and Claudette were the perfect hosts to welcome us! What attracted us initially were the offer of free use of their bikes and boogie boards -- when we asked if they had helmets for us to use, they didn't at first but then provided us with brand new ones :) If you are looking to ride many many miles (like 10+) then maybe a rental would be better, as these are vintage wheels :) The facility is very unique and creatively planned, but most importantly of all: comfortable and clean and private. How does one make an outdoor shower feel private? With skilled craftsmanship, that's how, and that's what Chris built! Plus we were invited for a bonfire in their courtyard, which is attached to ours, though separated with a knee-high fence -- very well-thought through in our opinion. We really enjoyed our stay and will come back should we find ourselves in Ventura again - and we hope we do!
The Storybook House Studio was like something out of a California daydream. Chris and Claudette have done an outstanding job creating a special place for travelers. Upon our arrival, we were greeted with an extremely clean and welcoming space, complete with a personal welcome note. The heat of Ventura didn't bother us at all, with a cooling ceiling fan and generally cool atmosphere and I highly recommend utilizing the outdoor shower on a warm sunny day, solo or with a friend. The outhouse with actual toilet was so fantastic that I now want one myself. All the pertinent guest information was posted on the wall in a well formatted single page. The bed was comfy, The linens were great, and the pillows were soft. We even had the pleasure of using the beach cruisers for a Sunday ride around town. Not to mention, Chris and Claudette went above and beyond when they scoured the room for my missing necklace after we left.
Best air bnb experience I've had. Great location, beyond well equipped, very private, wonderfully unique accommodations and hosts that were as sweet as can be.
About the Host, Claudette And Chris
Ventura is our hometown, also known as the cowtown by the sea - Ventucky. We love the outdoors and greatly enjoy living in this area with its perfect combination of ocean and country. We also like to get out and explore beyond our home base from time to time, especially when we find cool, unique, off the beaten path places to stay. While at home we love being Airbnb hosts and meeting great people, sharing our home and telling them about the beauty of the area.
