Storybook House Guest Studio

House - Private room · San Nicholas Street, Ventura, CA 93001, United States

Stay in one of Ventura's most unique homes with a whole section of it designed especially for our guests. If you are up for a fun, one of a kind experience, then we are the place for you! Enjoy the photo tour..

The Space

Our beautiful art filled guest studio is clean, cozy and very private because it is detached from the main house. It is perfect for 1-2 guests. You will have a private entrance and a key to the guest studio so you can feel free to come and go as you wish. It comes pre-stocked with continental breakfast items. We are in an excellent Mid-Town location. Within a short walk you can be at a tasty family owned restaurant and less than 2 miles on bike or in your car you can be walking the scenic beach area by the historic pier or enjoying lively downtown.

Guest Access

Amenities inside the guest studio include wireless internet, mini-fridge, microwave, toaster, electric kettle, coffee maker, washer & dryer, iron & ironing board, fresh bedding, towels, robes, slippers. Outside you get your own little patio, shower and restroom with toiletries included. 2 fun beach cruisers are also available for you to borrow, makes for a great way to explore the area. Beach gear available includes towels, chairs, a cooler, umbrella, boogie boards and if one of our wetsuits fits you, your welcome to borrow that too. ;)

Interaction with Guests

We love meeting new people and we are usually here to greet you and show you around when you arrive. (If we will be away the day you arrive we will give you a code to get your key from the lockbox.) We respect your privacy during your stay but are also available should you need us for anything. Whenever possible we like to extend an invitation for you to join us for an evening around the firepit in the backyard (S'mores included). It's been a fun way to spend time with our guests and we are happy to give you suggestions on where to go depending on your interests. Our dog Daisy enjoys meeting new people too, but don't worry, she will only come over to the guest area at your invitation.

The Neighborhood

Our neighborhood is easy to find, just a few minutes from the freeway exit off Seaward Avenue between the beach and the hills and two central streets, Thompson and Main. We have friendly neighbors with a pleasant amount of activity; people walking their dogs, kids riding bikes to school and families pushing their babies along in strollers. Nights are generally quiet and calm.

Getting around

Finding parking on the street right near the house is easy. If you don't want to use a car to get around you are welcome to borrow a bike. There are bus stops nearby and if you love walking you can be downtown or at the beach in about 30 minutes.

  • What can I say? It was a lovely stay, everything about it - the bed is ultra comfy, the room is really well laid out with a basin and a utility room with washing machine, drier, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, kettle and fridge. Lovely breakfast items provided. The two bikes were great fun, we took them to the harbour when we did a half day boat trip to Santa Cruz Island, then cycled back along the coast to the pier. Lovely. Claudette and Chris are lovely people and will make you feel really welcome. Oh yes, and don't forget the shower - it's outside but very private -all part of the (website hidden) ask them about the double bed suspended from the ceiling in their spare room, it's really cool!

  • Chris and Claudette were wonderful hosts, we felt very welcome.
The cottage has everything you need and the outdoor shower was so much fun. Everything was very clean and well organized. They invited us to a campfire and when I got sick they were very helpful and caring.
We had a wonderful time and will definitely be back next year!

  • Stayed only one night. way to short, at those friendly people. The room was small but has everything, dryer, exellent choice of food., funny bicycle etc. Didnt need no bigger room because Chris invited me for a campfire and showed me his selfmade beautifull house, and showed me with his car some nice vistapoints and ateliers.
Was a great pleasure to meet them!

  • Many thanks to Claudette and Chris for welcoming us to their home! We had a great time at the Storybook Guest Studio and would definitely go back during another trip to Ventura. We had a great time spending time by the fire and getting to know each other. Additionally, Claudette and Chris made us feel so welcome by having a detailed map of the area in the room; they were also very generous and provided us with a lot of fun snacks and a great morning breakfast. We would recommend this place to anyone! (Outdoor shower was definitely an added bonus) : ) Thank you again!

  • My husband and I visited Ventura to take care of family business, cleaning out the house of an elderly relative, meeting with attorneys--so our needs were a little different from those of a pleasure trip. At this difficult time, the Guest Studio was a far better choice for us than a hotel. It was personal and much more comforting than something commercial. We had privacy, could come and go freely, had very easy parking, the kitchenette allowed us to fix sandwiches when we needed them, and we used the convenient laundry facility daily. A nice breakfast was provided daily. The hosts recommended good restaurants and beach spots when we had a little free time. We hope to return to the Guest Studio very soon for a true vacation in this beautiful part of California.

  • What a wonderful place to stay! I loved the outdoor shower and the outhouse. Chris and Claudette are friendly and outgoing. I enjoyed an evening talking around the fire with them. Their home is full of color and life. I look forward to visiting them again.

  • Claudette and Chris were outstanding hosts and very flexible. The outdoor shower was great, even in the rain. We found the place to be so well set and stocked for us that we regret we couldn't spend more time there. The focus of our Ventura trip was on seeing two very close friends, so we couldn't take full advantage of Chris and Claudette's great hospitality. Will book again with them next time we are in Ventura.

  • What a FUN experience! Claudette and Chris provide a truly delightful experience for their guests; from the colorful, whimsical decorative themes (think Cowboys and Surfers and Jungles and Tiki Huts, Oh MY!!) to the extra-de-luxe and scrupulously clean accommodations (the bed is DIVINE, and there's YUMMY treats for breakfast), they really show what being a 'host'can mean. We were charmed, and cannot wait to book this location again, for another fun get-away.

This location and these hosts reminded me that creativity, thoughtfulness and warmth are alive, and well, and living in Ventura, CA! Thank you, Chris and Claudette!

  • Great place to stay in Ventura. Clean, quiet, and comfortable with a lot of unusual features. We will definitely stay here again next time we come up.

  • Claudette and Chris are undoubtedly the coolest people we've ever met, and their house is the coolest thing we've ever seen - filled with so much creativity and imagination it's impossible to put into words. They are incredibly warm, kind and generous people and went out of their way to make sure we got the most out of our stay in the beautiful Ventura. The room was extremely comfortable and was kitted out with everything we needed (and more). The breakfast was personalised and very delicious and the outdoor shower absolutely incredible - what a view! Sitting round the campfire, getting to know Chris and Claudette was one of the highlights of our two week trip to California. Such talented and lovely people, we can't wait to return.

Ventura is our hometown, also known as the cowtown by the sea - Ventucky. We love the outdoors and greatly enjoy living in this area with its perfect combination of ocean and country. We also like to get out and explore beyond our home base from time to time, especially when we find cool, unique, off the beaten path places to stay. While at home we love being Airbnb hosts and meeting great people, sharing our home and telling them about the beauty of the area.
