Stay in one of Ventura's most unique homes with a whole section of it designed especially for our guests. If you are up for a fun, one of a kind experience, then we are the place for you! Enjoy the photo tour..
Our beautiful art filled guest studio is clean, cozy and very private because it is detached from the main house. It is perfect for 1-2 guests. You will have a private entrance and a key to the guest studio so you can feel free to come and go as you wish. It comes pre-stocked with the continental breakfast items of your choice. We are in an excellent Mid-Town location. Within a short walk you can be at a tasty family owned restaurant and less than 2 miles on bike or in your car you can be walking the scenic beach area by the historic pier or enjoying lively downtown.
Amenities inside the guest studio include wireless internet, mini-fridge, microwave, toaster, electric kettle, coffee maker, washer & dryer, iron & ironing board, fresh bedding, towels, robes, slippers. Outside you get your own little patio, shower and restroom with toiletries included. 2 retro hippie style beach cruisers are also available for you to borrow, makes for a fun way to explore the area.
We love meeting new people and we are usually here to greet you and show you around when you arrive. (If we will be away the day you arrive we will give you a code to get your key from the lockbox.) After you check-in you can interact with us as little or as much as you like. We like to extend an invitation for you to join us for an evening around the firepit in the backyard if you have time (S'mores included). It's been a fun way to spend time with our guests and we are happy to give you suggestions on where to go depending on your interests. Our dog Daisy enjoys meeting new people too, but don't worry, she will only come over to the guest area at your invitation.
Our neighborhood is easy to find, just a few minutes from the freeway exit off Seaward Avenue between the beach and the hills and two central streets, Thompson and Main. We have friendly neighbors with a pleasant amount of activity; people walking their dogs, kids riding bikes to school and families pushing their babies along in strollers. Nights are generally quiet and calm.
Finding parking on the street right near the house is easy. If you don't want to use a car to get around you are welcome to borrow a bike. There is a bus stop right around the corner on Main St. and if you love walking you can be downtown or at the beach in about 30 minutes.
Claudette and Chris were outstanding hosts and very flexible. The outdoor shower was great, even in the rain. We found the place to be so well set and stocked for us that we regret we couldn't spend more time there. The focus of our Ventura trip was on seeing two very close friends, so we couldn't take full advantage of Chris and Claudette's great hospitality. Will book again with them next time we are in Ventura.
What a FUN experience! Claudette and Chris provide a truly delightful experience for their guests; from the colorful, whimsical decorative themes (think Cowboys and Surfers and Jungles and Tiki Huts, Oh MY!!) to the extra-de-luxe and scrupulously clean accommodations (the bed is DIVINE, and there's YUMMY treats for breakfast), they really show what being a 'host'can mean. We were charmed, and cannot wait to book this location again, for another fun get-away.
This location and these hosts reminded me that creativity, thoughtfulness and warmth are alive, and well, and living in Ventura, CA! Thank you, Chris and Claudette!

Great place to stay in Ventura. Clean, quiet, and comfortable with a lot of unusual features. We will definitely stay here again next time we come up.
Claudette and Chris are undoubtedly the coolest people we've ever met, and their house is the coolest thing we've ever seen - filled with so much creativity and imagination it's impossible to put into words. They are incredibly warm, kind and generous people and went out of their way to make sure we got the most out of our stay in the beautiful Ventura. The room was extremely comfortable and was kitted out with everything we needed (and more). The breakfast was personalised and very delicious and the outdoor shower absolutely incredible - what a view! Sitting round the campfire, getting to know Chris and Claudette was one of the highlights of our two week trip to California. Such talented and lovely people, we can't wait to return.
Chris and Claudette were great hosts. The guest cottage is perfectly set up for a couple exploring the Ventura area. The cottage included a coffee maker, toaster, tea pot, and all the provisions needed to make some simple breakfasts for our stay. Everything you might need for your stay is included. There was even an iron and ironing board so we could look sharp for a business meeting.
The outdoor shower was fun but be prepared, it's an outdoor shower. The patio where the outdoor shower is is super private though.
One day we took the bikes downtown, then along the beach path and out to the Ventura Marina for lunch. The almost vintage Schwinn Cruiser with springer fork got lots of "nice bike" complements.
We did get to spend one evening around the campfire swapping story and songs, playing guitar, and roasting smores. Chris and Claudette have lots of fun life experiences to share.
Next time we're in Ventura we're back!
There is no doubt that it should be an unforgettable memory for all of us. Very very nice room with very very nice landlord! For the first time, we enjoy the outside shower under the stars shining in the sky and in the sunshine as well. The cowboy restroom is so interesting!
The sunset in Ventura is so so beautiful at the pier!
Staying at the enchanted home of Chris and Claudette's and get to know them was the best part of my Ventura experience! The independent room was with kitchen full of care, lovely restroom and porch, and the best outdoor shower experience with sunshine and trees and sound of birds. Everything was perfect with sincere care to the detail. On top of these, you will meet these two most gorgeous people who really knows how to enjoy life, and will truly care for you. I will not list too much detail because I am afraid it will have bring up too much expectation and some might eventually take their favor granted, but just cannot but mention how sincerely nice and kind they were. I felt at home. And just having conversation together with Chris and Claudette was meaningful experience of life that will last for a long time --- I felt almost "healed" by meeting them. Thank you so much for the wonderful time. I will definitely recommend to stay at their home and meet Chris and Claudette if you visit LA or Santa Barbara area. Ventura beach had different charm from Venice or Santa Monica. Much more peaceful and relaxing, with many lovely ocean creatures. I myself plan to go back with my friend and mom in the future!
Chris & Claudette were fabulous hosts! I stayed in the Storybook House Guest Studio for a week-long writing retreat. It was the perfect spot--as there was a desk in the room. Plus, a nice outdoors patio with a table. Perfect for focusing on writing!
Chris & Claudette gave me lots of recommendations of restaurants to try and places to see. I really enjoyed visiting with them, sitting around the fire and sharing stories.
They were very quick to reply to my questions about things around Ventura; plus, give winning suggestions. If I had gone to Ventura on my own & stayed in a hotel, I would have missed out on cool spots to see and fab eats! It really was a huge benefit to have this insider's knowledge and focus on the special highlights that Ventura has to offer.
The Guest House is beautiful with lots of artwork. Plus, the outdoors folding shower is incredible. It is obvious that a lot of love and care went into the building of these--and it's a joy to see all of the wonderful innovations here. The place is very clean and comfortable, and also just a walk away from Main Street!
I went to Ventura to focus on writing and I left with new friends and a wonderful appreciation of this special town. I left with a very enriched experience and would love to return--and to stay in this Storybook House again--and of course, continue sharing wonderful adventure stories with Chris & Claudette!
Chris and Claudette are amazing hosts. They made us feel like old friends. Their Storybook Home and Guest room are charming. We loved the outdoor shower. Chris and Claudette recommended places to go, the perfect beaches, and drives to take. Daisy is a sweetheart, always greeting us with a wiggle bum. The breakfasts were great. The guest room is quiet and peaceful. We were able to relax and re-energize. The bed and pillows were extremely comfortable. The sheets are so soft and snuggly, we never wanted to get out. Our time around the campfire was so much fun, lots of laughter and stories. Chris and Claudette made our stay complete. We will definitely be back. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
My wife and I love traveling and have always had good experiences with airbnb - this place is above and beyond. A great place with great hosts. It was a pleasure to stay. Thanks!
