Stay in one of Ventura's most unique homes with a whole section of it designed especially for our guests. If you are up for a fun, one of a kind experience, then we are the place for you! Enjoy the photo tour... (Ventura STVR Permit #2195)

The Space

Our beautiful art filled guest studio is clean, cozy and very private because it is detached from the main house. It is perfect for 1-2 guests. You will have a private entrance and a key to the guest studio so you can feel free to come and go as you wish. It comes pre-stocked with continental breakfast items. We are in an excellent Mid-Town location. Within a short walk you can be at a tasty family owned restaurant and less than 2 miles on bike or in your car you can be walking the scenic beach area by the historic pier or enjoying lively downtown.

Guest Access

Amenities inside the guest studio include wireless internet, mini-fridge, microwave, toaster, electric kettle, coffee maker, washer & dryer, iron & ironing board, fresh bedding, towels, robes, slippers. Outside you get your own little patio, shower and restroom with toiletries included. 2 fun beach cruisers are also available for you to borrow, makes for a great way to explore the area. Beach gear available includes towels, chairs, a cooler, umbrella, boogie boards and if one of our wetsuits fits you, your welcome to borrow that too. ;)

Interaction with Guests

We love meeting new people and we are usually here to greet you and show you around when you arrive. (If we will be away the day you arrive we will give you a code to get your key from the lockbox.) We respect your privacy during your stay but are also available should you need us for anything. Whenever possible we like to extend an invitation for you to join us for an evening around the firepit in the backyard (S'mores included). It's been a fun way to spend time with our guests and we are happy to give you suggestions on where to go depending on your interests. Our dog Daisy enjoys meeting new people too, but don't worry, she will only come over to the guest area at your invitation.

The Neighborhood

Our neighborhood is easy to find, just a few minutes from the freeway exit off Seaward Avenue between the beach and the hills and two central streets, Thompson and Main. We have friendly neighbors with a pleasant amount of activity; people walking their dogs, kids riding bikes to school and families pushing their babies along in strollers. Nights are generally quiet and calm.

Getting around

Finding parking on the street right near the house is easy. If you don't want to use a car to get around you are welcome to borrow a bike. There are bus stops nearby and if you love walking you can be downtown or at the beach in about 30 minutes.

Other Things to Note

We have recently had to increase our rate. The City of Ventura requires a 10% Occupancy Tax which is paid to them on a monthly basis. (City of Ventura - Short Term Vacation Rental - Permit # 2195) In addition there is a 3% credit card processing fee applied by airbnb. Both of these fees are built into the rate. We do not charge extra for cleaning but there is now a minimum 2 night stay.

  • The only way to accurately describe the Storybook Guest House is "Home away From Home"! We flew into town with our 13 month old baby and were blown away by this sweet, easy and relaxed place.
Claudette and Chris are super friendly and welcoming, contacted us ahead of time about anything we might need for our stay, and even met us at the front door with bottles of water on the sweltering day when we arrived. The fridge was stocked, towels and robes were fresh and the private outdoor shower was a hands-down favorite for our little one.
The studio is a studio size space wise but it has almost all the comforts of home and is completely private and separate from the main house. We were continuously in awe of the complete attention to detail and organization- everything from plates to salt shakers to ice packs and coolers is right at your fingertips. We were able to avoid a special trip to the store with a cranky post flight baby because milk, yogurt, and tons of other goodies were all on hand.
One of my ultimate favorite discoveries was that our child's pack n play JUST fit in the semi-separate kitchen/laundry space, this made bedtime and sleep easier and more pleasant for us.
The neighborhood is relaxed and quiet but you can walk to nearby coffee joints, breakfast places and easily bike to the beach. Breakfast at Cafe Nouveau nearby was an experience not to be missed.
Our family was in town for a wedding, which my husband's company was involved with. Chris and Claudette went totally above and beyond when they ran out to get a table from Chris's shop for us to borrow after we found out that the wedding was short of tables.
We only wished that we had more time to hang out and relax in this oasis a bit longer!

  • The Storybook Guest Studio is a peaceful little haven, with a dreamy western/bohemian feel. If you're planning on staying in Ventura, I honestly can't recommend this place enough. Chris and Claudette are two of the kindest people I have ever met, and they will bend over backwards to accommodate their guests. I stayed here for 5 weeks, and they really made it feel like a home away from home. The guesthouse is beautiful, and had everything I needed for my long stay. The entire place is beautifully decorated, and thought has gone into every single detail. If you're feeling apprehensive about the outdoor shower - trust me you will be as pleasantly surprised I was! It's completely private and amazingly refreshing, especially after a day at the beach! They have two gorgeous bikes that are available to use whenever you like, I spent many hours riding around Ventura - mostly to the beach and back, which is only a 5 minute ride away. They often like to sit around the crackling fire pit they have in their yard, swapping stories over s'mores and music. Claudette will often get her guitar out and sing - she has a beautiful voice so if you have an evening free, I wouldn't miss out! They will be more than happy to show you around their home, full of interesting little quirks and fascinating stories behind each decorative piece. Ask about the 'Ali Baba' bed - and the treehouse in the front yard. Also - ask to see some of Chris' work. He handcrafts beautiful bags made from cowboy boots - his level of creativity is enviable! Chris and Claudette truly made my stay in Ventura an unforgettable experience. They made me feel like family while I was here, and I have made friends for life! If I ever return to Ventura, which I certainly will - I wouldn't think of staying anywhere else. Not only is this a beautiful place to stay, but you also have the chance of meeting two of the greatest people. Take my word, and don't miss out on this amazing little rental!

  • I fell unexpectedly ill immediately before my trip, but my friend stayed with them instead. He loved it! Here's what he had to say:

Staying with Claudette and Chris was an all around excellent experience. They have a beautiful home and set up a very unique and cool guest studio. My situation was a bit odd because I was arriving by bicycle and needed to leave by 5am the next day. Claudette and I discussed all of this early that week and she was very accommodating.

When I arrived, Claudette gave me a quick tour of the main house and a detailed tour of the studio where I would be staying. She also offered to take me to an event downtown, which I unfortunately had to pass up, but very much appreciated.

Claudette and Chris were great hosts the entire time. They are quite thoughtful and even left me a note and chocolate bar on the dresser! I would highly recommend staying here if you are going to be in the Ventura area.

  • This Cottage really is out of storybook. Its made with so much love and beautiful details even better than the pictures show. We loved this place. Claudette even had vegan cookies for us (yummie). There has been everything we needed and more. It was cozy and clean and perfectly equipped. Claudette and Chris are so friendly, open and interesting people. Chris even gave us a tour in their house, which was a real pleasure and I think he could get entering-fees if he wanted. We totally recommend to stay at the storybook guest house!!!

  • I loved the house, and the little cottage I got to stay in was prefect for my quick in and out trip. The outhouse was by far the most awesome I've ever seen, with a working toilet of course. The outside shower was very easy to setup and veeeery refreshing after running a marathon! If I come back to do the marathon again, I'll most definitely stay here again. Thanks Claudette and Chris for being great hosts!

  • I loved my stay at Chris and Claudette's guest house! Claudette is a super hostess; very organized, attentive, and fun! The shower was my favorite and the bed was very comfortable. They invited me over for a visit with s'mores and wine by the fire. Ask Claudette to play guitar for you - she's great - and ask to see the handicrafts of Chris - amazing and beautiful work! I cannot wait for a return visit. Thank you Claudette and Chris for a very relaxing stay.

  • What can I say? It was a lovely stay, everything about it - the bed is ultra comfy, the room is really well laid out with a basin and a utility room with washing machine, drier, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, kettle and fridge. Lovely breakfast items provided. The two bikes were great fun, we took them to the harbour when we did a half day boat trip to Santa Cruz Island, then cycled back along the coast to the pier. Lovely. Claudette and Chris are lovely people and will make you feel really welcome. Oh yes, and don't forget the shower - it's outside but very private -all part of the (website hidden) ask them about the double bed suspended from the ceiling in their spare room, it's really cool!

About
Ventura is our hometown, also known as the cowtown by the sea - Ventucky. We love the outdoors and greatly enjoy living in this area with its perfect combination of ocean and country. We also like to get out and explore beyond our home base from time to time, especially when we find cool, unique, off the beaten path places to stay. While at home we love being Airbnb hosts and meeting great people, sharing our home and telling them about the beauty of the area.
