About this listing
A comfy space right up the hill from the beach in Montezuma. We are fortunate to be a short hike from the upper Montezuma waterfalls, and that puts us between two river valleys that the monkeys wander through. Come enjoy the tropics with us!
Our basic rooms are simple, but comfortable, with Air/conditioning, private bathrooms, Satellite TV, and free wifi in the house. Guests also enjoy a full homecooked breakfast, and unlimited access to our butterfly garden. Check our calendar for the lower rates are offered for daily, weekly, and monthly stays in our low season!! If our basic rooms are booked, contact us for the balcony room availability!
You have full access to the house, your own private room with a private bathroom and A/C, wireless internet, and helpful staff that will give you the inside scoop on the area.
Interaction with Guests
We have been living here in the jungle by the sea for over 8 years, so we have lots of lifestyle tips. There will be interns working at the house to help you with activities and plans, and we live on the other side of the property, which makes us available at any time for your needs or questions.
This is a very laid back beach area. Lots of things to explore, and plenty of good food downtown.
We are located up a steep hill, so many people either hoof it for the exercise, or rent ATV's or 4x4 rental cars. Even if you do go for the exercise, doing a ATV rental for a day or two really opens up the rest of the peninsula.
Other Things to Note
We are also offering low weekly and monthly rates during certain times of the year, please feel free to check the calendar for low prices for extended stays!
We do have two dogs on the property, so please let us know if you are thinking of bringing a pet, which can be a challenge in the jungle. We don't allow smoking in the house, but there is a designated smokers hang out on the property.
My girlfriend and I ended up staying here an extra night than we had originally planned, and are SO happy we did! The entire experience was incredible--First off, the restaurant (Clandestina) serves some f the best food we've ever had, in any country, ever. We're both vegan, and they were very accommodating to us. The staff were all extremely helpful and friendly (and not in the fakey customer service way, in a real, genuine way). The room was clean, with a nice shower and A/C. It's a short walk from the waterfalls, and about a 15 minute walk from the center of Montezuma. And, of course, there's the beautiful butterfly garden. Highly recommended!
This place is fantastic. The moment we arrived staff was receptive and accommodations were great. Joshua and Pauline were great hosts. Their breakfast menus differed everyday and served fresh daily; sharing fruit with the butterflies gave me butterflies in my stomach, it was cute and a very sweet gesture indeed as was the butterfly garden tour Pauline gave us. Activities were plentiful here and Joshua was kind enough to suggest things to do as well as the best roads to take. We made the most of our surrounds both with ATV and 4 x 4. Definitely would come back again.....Lest we not forget the well received restaurant, Clandestino in the evenings here; their Hispano-Americano cuisines are a treat and beautifully served and the home made craft beer is equally as impressive. Alejandro's family were superb.
Mariposario B&B and Butterfly Gardens was fantastic!! The staff was welcoming and very knowledgeable about the area. There was great signage that told us we were on the right track, which was nice since it is a bit out of town. The included tour of the butterfly gardens was fascinating! We learned so much and got to see many different types of butterflies. The breakfast was delicious and kept us nice and full until lunch. Unfortunately we didn't have a chance to try the pizza because they were not there on Mondays but the beer was quite tasty. We were sad to leave, it felt like being with friends when we were there and we would love to go back.
I don't think I could say enough wonderful things about this place. My boyfriend and I decided to stay here on a whim, seriously only because the place we wanted to stay wasn't available for our entire trip and I had a good feeling about the Mariposario. I was right!
First of all, air conditioning. Awesome. The rooms are simple, but more than enough. Second, access to the waterfall. So easy, it's almost cheating. Third, incredible staff. All friendly, welcoming, and accommodating. Super cool people. Then, THE BEER. After spending a month and a half in Costa Rica working on my grad school fieldwork, I was so grateful for non-pilsner beer, as much as I love a cold Pilsen. The cream ale was my favorite. Last but not least, the food. Truly incredible and both of our favorites in Montezuma, which is saying something considering we spent 6 days there and ate out for nearly every meal. We even walked up the steep hills after moving hotels, just to eat here again! Delicious free breakfast too, which changes daily and never failed to impress.
In a nutshell, this place would be perfect if it were a *little* closer to town/the beach. But that being said, I still wish we'd stayed here longer!
Lovely place. Great people. Good wifi. Close to the beach and the waterfalls with a car. The butterfly garden is very sweet
Overall, we had a very nice time at the Butterfly B&B. The place was clean, the room was well equipped with amenities and AC and the breakfasts were wonderful. We were disappointed however that the listing said there would be a kitchen but in reality the kitchen is not really available to guests (just a very small amount of fridge space). Overall I recommend the B&B and make sure to get a tour of the butterfly garden (free for guests) while you are there.
Our (email hidden) and Butterfly Garden was wonderful. Everyone was very helpful and kind to us. They helped us plan our zip lining, ATVs and our boat taxi. It was very very helpful and great that everyone was willing to help us out for whatever we needed. The room was nice and had air conditioner , great restaurant inside and wonderful cooks and breakfast and dinner! The city of Montezuma was great experience and was quiet , nice people and gorgeous beaches. Our favorite was the Playa Grande since it was more secluded.
