Description

The space

We have 4 guest rooms on the second floor all with Air/conditioning, private bathrooms, Satellite TV, and free wifi in the house. Guests also enjoy a rotating full breakfast, and unlimited access to our butterfly garden. We are also proud to announce the opening of our micro-brewery, Butterfly Brewing Co.!! A small brewery located behind the butterfly gardens. We make 6 different styles of beer and our own hibiscus soda. All of our beers can be found on tap downstairs in our Bar/Restaurant Clandestina. Open Tuesday-Saturday 12 noon-9pm.

Guest access

You have full access to the house, your own private room with a private bathroom and A/C, wireless internet, and helpful staff that will give you the inside scoop on the area. All of our beers are available to guests even when the restaurant is closed. Guests have full access to the butterfly gardens.

Interaction with guests

We have been living here in the jungle by the sea for over 11 years, so we have lots of lifestyle tips. There will be interns working at the house to help you with activities and plans.

The neighborhood

This is a very laid back beach area. Lots of things to explore, and plenty of good food downtown.

Getting around

We are located up a steep hill, so many people either hoof it for the exercise, or rent ATV's or 4x4 rental cars. Even if you do go for the exercise, doing a ATV rental for a day or two really opens up the rest of the peninsula.

Other things to note

There is a adventurous trail with direct access to the upper and lower waterfalls right behind the B&B. About a 15 minute hike.

House Rules

The reception desk is open from 6am-10pm everday. Please make sure to arrive before 10pm as there will not be anyone around after that.

We loved everyone there! Such great food and hospitality. We actually walked up the hills with backpacks to get there, but think thrice if it is not something you'd do, but adventure it up if ya want! Enjoy the food! Such a great time here. Super close to the waterfalls and beach. So relaxing. Can't wait to come back!

Fun place to stay. Far enough out of Montezuma that it is quiet but close enough to enjoy the town. Meals were excellent. Restaurant on site was terrific.

I just loved the aura of this quaint little Inn. It provided such a peaceful and relaxing time for our stay in Montezuma. I can't say enough about the staff at the Maraposario. First of all Ryan was so helpful prior to our visit with so much valuable information about the area. Anna was such a pleasure to talk to and shared such great stories about the inn and what goes on around Montezuma. And the assistance with booking our tours and calling for taxis was wonderful. The free breakfast was a huge bonus! The food in the Clandestina was amazing and Phoebe took such good care of us. Overall we had a great time and will recommend this place to other travellers.

Mariposario was a perfect place to stay-delicious food and beers right below the room and in a good location. Staff was always very friendly, welcoming and helpful.

I stayed at Mariposario for a little over a week. There are only 4 rooms, 2 of which have balconies overlooking a 900 sq. meter butterfly conservatory where volunteers from around the world join in an effort to preserve exotic critters. The restaurant below the rooms is quite famous among the expats living in this incredible place. Each morning at breakfast I sat at a long table looking out at the jungle. I have invited individuals from the staff to visit my home for a few nights when they come to Philly. Each morning at 5:30 I was awoken by Howler Monkeys. The breakfasts were great. It was difficult to concentrate on the food because every few minutes either humming birds, or butterflies or parrots or some other incredible bird would perch on a nearby branch. White face monkeys (don’t know the actual name) showed up everyday. The town at the bottom of a long hill is called Montezuma. Read about it. I stayed happily in the town for a week and a half before claiming my reservation at Mariposario. The beach is fantastic. The people are friendly. I felt entirely safe. I met quite a few couples from Europe and the US traveling with young children. I can’t say enough!

It was awesome, the host and everyone that worked there was so welcoming. We loved the butterfly garden, the beer, and the food. The room is a tad small, but there's not much reason to be in it anyways.
