Bed & Breakfast Hacienda El Sol

Bed & Breakfast - Private room · Norte, Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo, Mexico

The Space

To get an inspiring picture of Hacienda El Sol and their inn keepers Paula & Honza, watch this short documentary on the YouTube channel of Paula Liebe. It's called 'To sing for your Supper'.

This incredibly spacious palapa covers more than a 100 m2, including a sunny terrace with a table, umbrella and chairs, a fully equipped kitchen and a large bathroom. The penthouse features a King size bed with a romantic baldachin and a Mexican seat of tropical hardwood. There is WiFi connection for your laptop and a possibility to use our bikes that takes you to the beach in approximately 10 minutes, although a taxi will only cost you $2,00 USD. A dip in our refreshing pool is a wonderful extra feature we offer.

The location may seem a little far at first, but the Ejido is becoming more and more popular among Playenses and tourists alike because of the cheap rental prices, the safety and the relative stillness compared to the tourist filled centre. The exact address is Calle 26 between Avenue 120 and 125.

A delicious breakfast with freshly squeezed orange juice, organic coffee from Chiapas, yoghurt with granola and fresh fruit, and a variety of breads and eggs is included. We can provide you with lunch or dinner services upon request, as well as any trips or tours you wish to explore, from scuba diving to ruins site seeing, from Mexican dance shows to private yoga classes. Just tell us what you want and from 10 years of experience we can make your trip unforgettable!

  • Our stay with Paula and Honza at Maroma Amarte was lovely. This is a new opportunity for Paula to manage a beautiful jungle retreat. It will be a wonderful place for her yoga retreats and would also be a lovely site for destination weddings.

  • Paula and Honza are wonderful hosts and incredible people. I loved the room, the location, and my experience overall. I prefer a real neighbourhood to the tourist area and it's definitely that! I rode the bike (provided by Paula and Honza) everywhere which was so nice. I walked downtown in about 30 minutes too so it's not that far from the action or the beach! It's close to a grocery store and easy to get where you're going. Cab rides are also cheap and easy to catch. I was a solo female traveler and I felt very safe.

The breakfasts Honza makes are incredible! Fresh and delicious and really filling. I can't say enough. I would definitely stay there again and anywhere else they were hosting! If you're looking to lounge on a beach or by the pool you can still do it but it takes more effort on your part to get there. However, if you're looking for a more authentic experience this is the place! The only thing I would say that was a bit of a challenge was some of the morning noise from the nearby highway. I was up with the birds! But all the better to enjoy a full day! I highly recommend this place and playa del Carmen in general.

  • Paula and Honza have been wonderful hosts during my 6 nights at their place. I felt welcome and very safe, even though I travelled by myself. They offered a free bike which I used to bike to the beach and when I felt lazy, i took a taxi, which is not expensive at all. The bed is very comfi and the breakfast lasts the whole day (yummy Honza Omelettes!). They are both very warm, nice and interesting people! Thank you for a great local home in Playa. Hug - Iris

  • Paula and Honza could not have given us a warmer welcome to Mexico. They were kind and enthusiastic and gave us a lovely start to each day with a delicious, fresh and healthy breakfast. The local neighborhood was friendly and gave us a taste of 'real Mexico'. We found the bed comfortable and we slept well, relaxing more and more each day into our vacation. We can not thank our hosts enough for their graciousness and generosity of time as they answered questions and made suggestions for places for us to visit. Thank you Paula and Honza, we wish you the best success with your future adventures!

  • We made the reservation at the Hacienda to celebrate a milestone birthday. After reading the reviews, we felt we were in a very different place. To reach the door of the Hacienda, we had to walk around soiled toilet paper and diapers. We received a very warm welcome from Paula and Honza the first night, but the attitude completely changed when we pointed out to them the next morning that the bed linens were badly stained. The replacement sheets were also badly stained. We received a delicious breakfast the first morning; the second morning we left early and did not request breakfast, and the third morning our request for a 7:00 am breakfast could not be accommodated. The hostile attitude of one of the hosts made our stay very uncomfortable. Additionally, the pool was dirty and unusable, the shower head was badly clogged and the towel bar was broken and missing.

    Response from Paula & Honza:

I'm very sorry to hear that the absence of my husband's hospitality has made you feel very uncomfortable. Because he felt offended by your accusation that he had placed dirty sheets on your bed - the idea even disgusts us - he left all the communication to me. Again, I'm sorry to hear that even his polite absence was considered a hostile attitude and made you feel uncomfortable.

Liliane, maybe your husband forgot to mention that when he requested a 7.00 am breakfast I told him I was happy to set the alarm to accommodate your early hour. However, when your husband found out that it was my birthday the following day he said he would be happy to bring coffee, tea, yogurt and granola upstairs to your fully equipped kitchen.

Concerning the pool; we've had a race against the clock to make sure the workers finished their maintenance work of your entrance, water filtration spots inside your palapa and the general facade of the house. Due to extreme rains we have received during the last 5 months, everything was black and green with mold. My husband and I were so pleased that everything was finished and looked fresh for your arrival, except for the pool of course. The maintenance work had affected the pool and the pool had received a shock treatment, which can take a few days. Since the pool is so very cold now, we didn't think it would be an issue.

Thank you for pointing out the clogged showerhead. If nobody tells us, we don't know. My husband has it replaced. The same goes for the towel bar. If it's missing I can't tell if it was broken, but my husband will take care of that.
We've never received complaints about the sheets; they are expensive ones with a high thread count. But we will inspect them carefully to see if it's time to have them replaced.

About the used diaper in front of our door; we live in the real Mexico and we have street dogs. We feed them regularly and the way they return this favor, they bring us sold diapers they find in the trash. I can't control the timing when they do that. Sorry.

  • This was my first Airbnb experience and I am glad to say that it was great! The hospitality provided by Paula and Honza is remarkable and the conversations we had were very nice. I never felt uncomfortable or too shy to ask them questions. They truly are a very welcoming pair! They provided a very delicious breakfast everyday, plus their knowledge of the area really helped me with my daily activities. The room itself was very charming, spacious and comfortable. Everything in the kitchen and bathroom worked fine. The neighborhood was also pretty chill, I never had trouble getting a taxi to the beach which is about a 5 minute ride (or a 30 minute walk if you like to explore like me). Overall I really loved Hacienda El Sol and would definitely come back. Paula and Honza really made my stay at Playa del Carmen a great one.

  • Paula is a great and nice host :)
She has been available all the time and the day of the check in she has been so kind to give directions to our taxi driver once I reached her on her mobile phone.
Tasty and healthy breakfasts have been a perfect start for our days in Playa del Carmen. She has always been ready and available for any help and support.
We also used her bicycles to go back and forward to the city center, really appreciated :)
    Thank you Paula !

  • Paula and Honza were wonderful hosts -- full of energy and creativity and super accommodating. The breakfasts they prepared for us everyday were delicious and energizing. The accommodations were very very spacious and full of character - the perfect place to recharge and rest - very clean too.
We had a wonderful time there and would definitely stay again!

  • I really enjoyed my stay at Paulas house. The room is amazing, it has a very comfortable bed and a nice balcony. Breakfast is served freshly and is quite delicious. Beyond the two are great hosts with friendly personalities. I enjoyed Paulas dinner show where she sang in different dresses. I did not use the pool though but the beach is not very far. You can easily go downtown by bike or bus. I can really recommend staying at this place!
