We had a lovely stay; very nice touches and great location at the gorgeous coastline. Good communication and all very comfortable. Would recommend!
The cottage experience was absolutely superb in every aspect
Susie was terrific before, and during the stay, and the effort she made with the goodie packs and snacks to our taste was sooo nice
I am familiar with 25+ accommodation options in PMQ and i know you will really enjoy The Cottage as one of the best there is
The place was lovely, as soon as we walked in we could smell the lavender. Susie & Russ were lovely hosts, greeting us with fresh bread too & milk. Then having organic eggs & tomato's stocked up for us. We loved the electric blanket too, kept us so warm in the nights & the shower was huge. We will definitely be coming back, it was in a perfect location too! We were surrounding by beaches. Also the gate & door and other small touches made it with the purple colours to match the lavender feel to the cottage. Thanks for letting us stay. They have been the best airbnb hosts I've ever had.
Susie was very warm and welcoming on arrival and only too happy to share information about the local area and the cottage. The cottage is beautifully presented and has a wonderful vibe about it that I instantly regretted that we were only staying two nights. It is so cosy and comfortable with everything you need for a short or long stay. The little extras made you feel very special from the eggs, bread, tomatoes, butter and jams to the welcome card with a photo of the beach that is now a treasured keepsake. We are walkers and were able to walk everywhere - into town, along the beaches and to the nearby restaurants and cafes. I agree with a previous guest - you would be hard pressed to find a better place to stay in Port. I would love to come back and hope that we get the opportunity.
It's the little things that make the difference to settling into somewhere new. Susie and Russ were on hand to greet us and show us through the property, point out local fixtures of interest and answer all our questions.
They exceeded our expectations with the treats they laid out for us, including chocolates, bottled water, milk and fruit. The fridge was stocked with local, homemade preserves and butter, organic eggs and tomatoes and a delicious, rustic loaf of bread (we whipped up a gourmet breakfast that also saved us about $40 eating out).
You don't need to bring anything with you except a change of clothes and bathers because Susie and Russ think of everything. There's Eskies, camp chairs and beach umbrellas to enjoy the outdoors; crockery, cutlery, napery, kettles, pots and pans for cooking; full tea and coffee service; a hair dryer, shampoos and toiletries; blankets and throw rugs; a fully functioning DVD/LCD TV AV system and pretty much anything else you could need.
And if you forgot it I'm sure, based on our experience, Susie and Russ would race over to get it to you if they could. (When we needed help, they dropped their family outing and rushed over to help.)
The house is exactly as described - a cloistered and safe haven 30 seconds' walk to fantastic beaches and a few minutes' drive to the centre of town. A bus runs down the main drag to take you just about anywhere you might like to go.
We're looking forward to coming back again soon.
Susie & Russell were absolutely lovely and made such an effort in welcoming us. There were some treats on arrival and they'd gone to the trouble of writing up a few places for us to take photos from which was a nice surprise.
The cottage is very cute, clean and EVERY lavender coloured or themed product on the market can be found somewhere in the place ;-) It's also a 100m walk to the nearest beach which was fantastic.
We hadn't realized that bottle shops were closed on Good Friday and Susie & Russell came running in to save the day with a bottle, such great host. Would definitely recommend this place if you're stopping in Port Macquarie and we can't fault Susie & Russell.
Just a note:
If you're staying over Easter check the local 'what's on' list as there was a concert that seemed like next door on until late Saturday night!
Our hosts were so warm and professional in how they acted as a team to greet us and show us where to go in the community and how to manage the cottage (keys, lights, towels, food, etc...). The neighbourhood was nice and the cottage was close to the lookouts and beach walks, so you could easily take in the glorious views and sounds from the house.
About the Host, Susie
We are recently retired - My husband Russell and I bought Lavender Cottage originally for ourselves as a home base in Port Macquarie- as we were thinking of moving to Sydney to be near our family when we retired. We realised our family come here for holidays! so we kept our home and rent out our cottage as an income -and also share it with our friends and family and sometimes move in there when our family needs more room and they move into our house! We love the amazing climate here - Winter & Summer- the pristine and unique white sand beaches, crystal clear water, the river and headlands of Port Macquarie - we love walking, picnics, being on the water, the river, the waterside and beachside Restaurants and Cafes - we love good coffee and we love and visit often the lovely coastal towns nearby and the historic 'Timbertown' Wauchope. We never tire of watching the whales migrate in the seasons - swimming and snorkelling at Shelly Beach. Shelly Beach is our 'church'. We both love photography and even though we walk on the beach all the time, we constantly take photos of the ever changing beach and ocean- the headlands, birdlife and scenery. We have thousands of photos and never tire of taking more. Russell loves Golf - we have 2 beautiful golf courses in Port. We have koalas in the trees, kangaroos on the golf course, brush turkeys, amazing birdlife and wildlife. We love our family and grandchildren most of all. Music is an important part of our lives- Russell also plays the guitar and sings. We love travel, reading, foreign films, entertaining friends and love Australian (Barossa reds)- and New Zealand wines (particularly Marlborough Sauvignon Blancs). We love Japanese and Asian food, fresh local seafood and beach picnics - day and night. We love B & B's and staying in different types of accommodation where you meet interesting people. We have loved travelling to Europe and the UK and particularly love Canada & Alaska -we met and became lifelong friends with cottage Guests from Canada. We love meeting the many International and Australian Guests to Lavender Cottage - and we are thrilled when our Guests return each year- and we enjoy making their stay as enjoyable as possible by providing special touches and inclusions that they aren't expecting- but are designed to make them feel welcome and makes staying in our cottage as easy and relaxing as possible. We get great pleasure from the wonderful feedback and happy Guests we have had staying in the cottage in the last 8 years and can happily say we haven't had an unhappy Guest in all that time. We have just started hosting on Airbnb and love the concept. It suits exactly the type of Guests who we believe will enjoy staying at the cottage and who we love having stay there.
