Hidden Gem was a home away from home for my partner and I, and we highly recommend anyone planning a trip to Melbourne to check it out! The place was the perfect combination of comfort and luxe, and the location was ridiculously convenient (supermarkets, cafes, restaurants and tr…
I really wanted to love this place because Chris seemed so nice and friendly when I requested the booking, but in the end, I left a day early because it was so uncomfortable and not worth the money. First the good: - Easy check in and good communication - Nice design elements …
Response from Christopher:
Thank you for writing review! I value genuine, *honest* feedback. “Faucet and shower were not really working. Made the bathroom/shower frustrating to use.” Firstly, shower works perfectly fine. However, bathroom tap was found to be dripping. We immediately rectified this situation by sending a plumber over to fix the dripping tap, same day! Guest checked in Friday evening; surprised to receive message on Sunday afternoon saying: “Just tried out the shower for the first time” that day! Can anyone take such comments seriously? “Listed amenities such as Aesop soaps were empty, so I had to go buy my own soap.” Hmm - Aesop was running low, though plenty of spare shampoo, conditioner and ‘L’Occitane’ shower gel were all in bathroom shelf - perhaps Payal failed to see open shelf next to sink? I’m not sure how to manage expectations when suitable amenities - perhaps not same brand - are already provided? “Bed was super itchy - not sure if it was the linens or bugs. Made for some nights with little sleep.” Strange? Bed is a brand-new TEMPUR mattress on new solid timber IKEA base (no longer in production - actually collectable.) Only thing that may have irritated Payal - washing detergents? Possibly a vegan reaction? We’ll immediately change laundry detergents & softeners to a hypoallergenic type! No previous Airbnb guests have made any such comments previously: I look again to your comments in Sunday’s message. “The room was not clean: dusty carpets and trash remaining from a previous guest.” Really? Space was cleaned thoroughly, left SPOTLESS after previous guest. Katerine cleaned again on Friday on her usual run through the whole house, though obviously missed one of the small side bins - should I sack her for this? “The room gets super noisy - you can hear all the street noise as people walk past at night.” Our prime ‘inner city’ location includes easy access to bars, restaurants, cafes, humans. Having stated the obvious, that’s still a *big* surprise to hear - perhaps Payal left the two large windows wide open, and the heavy velvet insulating curtains open too? “Additionally, the wooden floors above don't have any insulation, so it sounds like someone is about to fall thru the ceiling while you're sleeping.” My goodness, the floors are now falling through! Are you sure Payal checked for insulation between the floors? Did Payal remove plasterboard ceiling to check? If you did- love to see pictures - not sure ripping floors & ceilings open permitted on AirBnb? Building constructed in 1997: solid tilt-slab concrete walls- solid timber floors. Glad to post architectural plans & details! “Like I said, Chris and Grant were both great, but in the end I left early because I didn't want to pay to be uncomfortable on my holiday. I think the issues listed above can be improved with a bit of effort on their part.” Thanks Payal for bringing my attention to super valuable lessons & some questions - perhaps, vegan fundamentalism has no place in our world? Just a thought next time someone introduces themselves as such. Namaste!
Hello! I was born and bred in Melbourne, Australia, a design savvy city, which I guess turned me into a designer. I run my own business in designing and building architectural lighting, and have a small team that I manage. Every day we create heirloom quality lighting for …
