San Marcos la Laguna is a quiet tranquil place that receives eco-spiritual tourism. A place to reflect and rejuvenate the soul.
The Bamboo Palace is next door to Escuela Caracol and La Cambalacha Proyecto Cultural. We are a 10 minute walk to the lake and on the path into the mountains on the way the The Yoga Forest.
You only need your legs in San Marcos, it is a small towm and convenient to walk everywhere. To visit other towns on the lake we either go by lancha (little ferry boat) or tuk-tuk.
From Guatemala city, take a private or collective shuttle (US$25) to San Marcos la Laguna. We can arrange a private shuttle for you with our trusted drivers if you wish for Q800 (US$100). The trip is 3-4 hours. Arriving into town follow the riverbed (dry during the dry season) until you see a stony path leading up into the mountains. Follow the path for 200m until you see Escuela Caracol's gate and a large hexagonal white school building, and then the Bamboo Palace is the next gate up the path on the left.
Other Things to Note

The house is situated in a very peaceful area, with almost no neighbors. Perfect for a private get away with close friends or family. The garden was by far my favorite feature, complete with fresh fruits and vegetables and gorgeous spots to lay in the sun. A very well equipped kitchen would make this home ideal for longer stays. The bathroom is surprisingly luxurious for the lake and is the cherry on top of the cake.
The house was beautiful and Haley was available if assistance was needed. Definitely recommend a flashlight for navigating the path at night. There were definitely bugs so keep that in consideration. Overall a great place, awesome kitchen and relaxing environment.
The bamboo palace is a dream, gorgeously designed and crafted kitchen, bath and common spaces with a large garden space in the front yard. Honestly the photographs really don't depict how beautiful the space really is. We loved the bed and large bath, super comfortable and the perfect remedy after our overnight volcano hike up Acetango. The town and community of San Marcos La Laguna is a quirky mix of local indigenous people and zen, hippy, earthy folks. We didn't want to leave and would absolutely recommend to a friend!
My family had a lovely stay at the Bamboo House. The house was as described. My only regret is that our stay wasn't longer. The path to the house is best found in the daylight. Once you know where it is, it is easy to find again.
The Bamboo Palace is spectacular, a true gem. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here, as Hayley's place is not only beautiful but accommodating. The kitchen is awesome and opens up to the living area, making cooking dinner a lot of fun. Hayley was also very responsive and informative whenever we had questions. Overall, we had a wonderful time, definitely recommend, and can't wait to return.
The Bamboo Palace was absolutely perfect! Everything about our stay was easy from the directions, to finding the keys, to finding our way around the house! A beautiful house in every way! Really look forward to being able to stay again. Thank you Hayley!
Thanks for hosting me at Bamboo Palace -- I enjoyed my stay very much. It is quiet and peaceful, with a nice garden for strolling around and exploring.
The place is clean and well-maintained. The kitchen is fully-equipped and great for cooking -- guests should just remember to clean the surfaces afterwards and take out the trash frequently.
The location is great -- its close to the center. I enjoyed hiking in the hills behind the house, and mountain-biking to San Pedro.
