What can I say about Chateau Basque? That it's most beautifully situated on top of a hill offering a splendid look over the lovely contryside of pays basque (which we enjoyed when we had dinner on the terrace). That the house itself has the charme of an 18th century manor house (which it is) that makes one feel like entering a Jane Austen novel, but provides all the comfort that make guests feel cosy and at home. That Adrian, who runs the place, is a great host who cooked for us and showed us all the interesting places and took so good care of us. All of which ist true. But all of which can't describe the magic of the place. Chateau Basque lies remote from the busy bathing places of the atlantic coast, but close enough to reach them within 40 minutes, as well as the Pyrenees and beautiful villages with medeaval flair. I highly recommend Bridgets and Adrians "Petit Chateau Basque". Our visit became a memory that will last. We definitely will come back.
What a great place to stay! We were welcomed by Bridget and Adrian at a "fete de ville" with champagne and it stayed a "fete" for four days! We started every day with a good breakfast, had a great time at the beaches of Guethary, Biarritz and Hossegor (good surf) and ate at the beach or had a great dinner prepared by Adrian with some good wines & talks at the chateau. It has been said before, Harri really is the cherry on the pie... What a dog!
Well, Adrian was an absolutely awesome host and their Chateaux is very special indeed. But its gotta be said, Harry their dog absolutely stole the show!! We turned up and Adrian was stuck into renovations so after showing us our beautiful room we went to the local river and swam with the village kids which was bloody great! That evening he cooked us an amazing hot salad and plied us with loads of great wine. Breakfast was lovely and he directed us to the most beautiful town ( the name I forget ) in the Pyrenees where we ate mouth watering trout which had been caught fresh out the the river. Then Adrian cooked us a brilliant Bar-B-Q in the evening. I cannot recommend Bridget and Adrian's place highly enough. Thankyou for a wonderful experience!
