The Bungalow is an historic example of the types of cabins built in "Camp Capitola" back in the 20's and 30's and is steps away from the beach and the village.
We have a small bungalow in Capitola Village, CA along the coast of what is generally called "Santa Cruz" just off the beach and next to the village, where all the restaurants and quaint shops are a four minute walk away.
It's a two bed / one bath cottage and we have a spare bedroom with a queen size bed for you. Full kitchen and shared bathroom with shower.
Parking is free (as a popular beach town, Capitola has limited parking) in front of the house.
We don't have TV in the house, but full on WiFi and a deep record collection :)
The neighborhood is like a culdesac, with only one street entry/exit, so there is no traffic except locals, which makes it quiet except for the sound of the ocean. The house sits at the end of a dead end street, three houses away from the shore.
Capitola sits on the mouth of Soquel Creek and has a lovely groomed beach and the town is centered around the beach esplanade. It is not a chain store village; all the coffee shops, bars, restaurants, and shops are local-owned. It's such a neat place to visit. Malls and chain stores are about a 5 minute drive towards Santa Cruz.
Guests have access to the kitchen (oven, stove, microwave, coffee maker and utensils), the washer dryer, and WiFi. We've got a pretty deep record collection you are welcome to listen to, and the refrigerator is stocked with drinks, condiments, and eggs from our chickens (from our other house :) )
Interaction with Guests
Often guests will have the whole house to themselves as we travel a lot.
It's a quiet residential neighborhood. There is only one access point, so there is no through traffic, which adds to the tranquil feeling. The house is at the end of a culdesac street which ends at the shore.
Note: We are in a drought in California. We are not watering the lawn right now, and it will be brown. This summer we are replacing it with less thirsty plants. And if you can just be conscious of the drought, it's good Karma.
The house is located ~two blocks from the village and it is easy to walk into town for shopping and restaurants. It's also very close to Hiway 1, which traverses the coast of California and takes you locally to Santa Cruz to the northeast and Monterey to the south.
Other Things to Note
The house was built as a vacation cabin in the 1920's. It's an historic example of the simple structures built at the time. Notice how the walls are single ply redwood. Over its life it has had a kitchen and bathroom attached, and it has been lifted and placed on a foundation - you may notice how the fireplace is lower than the floor. It's an old house with old house character and quirks :) If you venture down into town you may see how they highlight this style of structure at the Capitola Museum.
Quiet and Simple
This is a quiet place in a local neighborhood. It's not a place for party nights in the house, but there is a vibrant night life you can walk to in the village.
We purposely don't have a TV here, but we do have WiFi for entertainment and / or work connections.
We are often staying at our other house, so there is a good chance you'll be staying here with the house to yourself.
We can handle more than two people, but we need to talk about it. Send us a note.
I Had an amazing weekend at Joe And Lori beach house. From the very start they were so welcoming. The place was beautiful and right near beach. They even left us a bottle of wine. Overall great expierence and will definitely contact them again when I go to Capitola.
The cottage was quaint and cozy! I felt at home as this is the type of cottage on our local lakes that we would stay at! I was welcomed with a card and wine, and chocolate by the bed!! Lots and lots of music and such a great collection too! Which I loved listening to. They left info on bike trails as well as lists of the local spots to go to. Short walk to the beach and village! Great experience and would recommend this place to anyone visiting capitola!
Delightful bungalow a few minutes walk from the beach. Everything worked well. The hosts were most gracious even though we never met them. The evening was a wonderful mixture of good food and dancing in Capitola village, and the morning was spent on the beach. We would definitely stay again.
This was our second time staying with Joe & Lori and we're glad we came by again! Their spot is incredibly lovely and so so quaint, and they're both amazing hosts. They provide everything you could need (like a toothbrush if you forgot one and lots of cozy pillows) to things you didn't know you wanted (like a huge library of well curated records). The neighborhood is adorable and is walking distance from lots of great spots. Thanks again, Joe & Lori!
Another great experience at Joe and Lori's. This beach retreat is just what we needed! The cozy living space just steps away from Capitola Village, allowed us to get away from Silicon Valley and enjoy beach living. Even with the last minute booking, Joe and Lori made accommodations for us! Thank you! We hope to visit again soon.
We had a great time at Joe & Lori's bungalow! The location and surroundings exceeded our expectations and the weather was very cooperative as well. The house is a short 5 minute walk to the Capitola surf breaks and ideal for learning and sharpening your longboard skills. It was great to be able to check out the swell before suiting up too. The house has everything you could possibly need for a getaway. The record collection is extensive. Would love to come back for an even longer stay!
Close to the Capitola beach. This is a clean, cozy, and homey cottage in a quiet neighborhood. We truly enjoyed our stay here!
We love being by the beach and being so close to town that we don't have to drive. We also like to ride our bikes, run, and hike, so Santa Cruz is a great place for us!
