The Bungalow is an historic example of the types of cabins built in "Camp Capitola" back in the 20's and 30's.

The Space

We have a small bungalow in Capitola Village, CA along the coast of what is generally called "Santa Cruz" just off the beach and next to the village, where all the restaurants and quaint shops are a four minute walk away.

It's a two bed / one bath cottage and we have a spare bedroom with a queen size bed for you. Full kitchen and shared bathroom with shower.

Parking is free (as a popular beach town, Capitola has limited parking) in front of the house.

We don't have TV in the house, but full on WiFi and a deep record collection :)

The neighborhood is like a culdesac, with only one street entry/exit, so there is no traffic except locals, which makes it quiet except for the sound of the ocean. The house sits at the end of a dead end street, three houses away from the shore.

Capitola sits on the mouth of Soquel Creek and has a lovely groomed beach and the town is centered around the beach esplanade. It is not a chain store village; all the coffee shops, bars, restaurants, and shops are local-owned. It's such a neat place to visit. Malls and chain stores are about a 5 minute drive towards Santa Cruz.

Guest Access

Guests have access to the kitchen (oven, stove, microwave, coffee maker and utensils), the washer dryer, and WiFi.

Interaction with Guests

Often guests will have the whole house to themselves as we travel a lot,

The Neighborhood

It's a quiet residential neighborhood. There is only one access point, so there is no through traffic, which adds to the tranquil feeling. The house is at the end of a culdesac street which ends at the shore.

Note: We are in a drought in California. We are not watering the lawn right now, and it will be brown. This summer we plan to replace it with less thirsty plants.

Getting around

The house is located ~two blocks from the village and it is easy to walk into town for shopping and restaurants. It's also very close to Hiway 1, which traverses the coast of California and takes you locally to Santa Cruz to the northeast and Monterey to the south.

Other Things to Note

The house was built as a vacation cabin in the 1920's. It's an historic example of the simple structures built at the time. Notice how the walls are single ply redwood. Over its life it has had a kitchen and bathroom attached, and it has been lifted and placed on a foundation - you may notice how the fireplace is lower than the floor. It's an old house with old house character and quirks :) If you venture down into town you may see how they highlight this style of structure at the Capitola Museum.

Thanks Tina for the feedback. I've added a sign on fridge that says 11 AM checkout and I hope that helps future guests. I appreciate the suggestions to improve. Joe

  • What a sweet little get away! Adorable, cozy, well situated- we loved it! Joe is very friendly and welcoming and does a great job of making his home feel like your home. Sitting back after dinner listening to some old favorites on vinyl, drinking a glass of wine- what a heavenly way to spend an evening! We will definitely be back!

  • This was everything I had hoped it would be and more --- the hosts were amazing and generous, the place was great, and literally 20 feet from the beach. We were greeted with a bottle of wine, hundreds of vinyl records, and a quaint place perfect for relaxation. I will definitely be back.

  • Wow. Could Not have asked for more from Joe and Loris place. First, they were amazing hosts (though we never met them). Left perfect instructions, had all the kitchen appliances we'd need, beautiful comfy rooms and a sweet backyard. Games and record player (with a Huge collection) were a major add. House is very clean and well kept and cute.
The location is perfect. Very quiet (in a nice way) but just a 5 minute walk away from the town below which is very cool.
Do yourself a favour and rent a kayak early morning on the harbour. We were 10 feet from dolphins, seals and pelicans. In love with Capitola and this cottage. GO!!

  • The house was cozy and comfy, and everything we thought it would be and more! It's a 2 minute walk from the beach, and a 30 second walk from a beautiful beach lookout path. We felt very much at home, and would definitely stay here again and recommend it to a friend!

  • Joe and Lori's place is amazing. You will fall in love with the house the moment you step in. It is a hip place, as far as decor and music. The location is impeccable. You are just steps away from the beach and a few more steps from the village. If you're looking for a relaxation, this is your place.
Joe and Lori are amazing host. Providing anything you need and filling you in on what to do. They make sure your stay is one worth reviewing.
    Thanks Joe and Lori!

  • We had a delightful experience! This was our first time with Air BnB and it was somewhat daunting deciding on a place to stay. I am so glad that we chose Joe and Lori's house! It is such a cute and cozy house in a sweet, quiet neighbourhood right on the ocean! (Beach access in a short walk) The house is super cute and well appointed and extremely comfortable to hang out in!
The best thing however is the attentiveness of the hosts! Though we sadly never saw them, they made sure that we had everything that we needed for an extremely enjoyable stay and they went well beyond the call to provide us with an unforgettable experience!
Thank you so much Joe and Lori!

About
We love being by the beach and being so close to town that we don't have to drive. We also like to ride our bikes, run, and hike, so Santa Cruz is a great place for us!
