The Space

Situated on two acres in the native ohia forest of upcountry Kona, this retreat is world's away from the hustle and bustle of town. This is a nature lover's paradise yet it is located only 10 minutes from Keahole airport and from town.

If it is peace you are looking for then this is the place for you. At 2200 feet above sea level the climate is both cool and comfortable.
With nighttime comes the sound of crickets and the occasional lowing of cattle from
nearby Palani Ranch. On a clear night the sky will be lit up by millions of stars.

I'iwi's nest is a two bedroom apartment inspired by the colorful Hawaiian honeycreeper , the I'iwi. From the minute you enter the front door, your spirit will be lifted by the warm and artistic décor. Your view is of the ohia forest and you will feel you are living up in the treetops with the I'iwis. If you look closely in the early morning hours you may spot a honeycreeper sipping nectar from the red lehua blossoms. Each of the rooms is unique and thoughtfully designed with love. One of the bonuses of this unit is that when you stand on the balcony outside the master bedroom you have an excellent view of the exotic Balinese garden. The master bedroom has a King size bed and the 2nd bedroom has a full size bed

Amenities include: Hot tub, flat screen tv with cable and dvd player, cd player, books, games, fully equipped kitchen, laundry facility, boogie boards, beach towels, and cooler for your picnic to the beach or Mauna Kea.

Just recently added for your continued joy: a beautiful Asian style slate and stone outdoor shower......hidden in the giant bamboo and heliconia- laden secret garden. Now when you come home from the beach you can shower outside before entering the cottage!

First morning's breakfast is included. Coffee and tea come in the first morning breakfast gift basket!

On site Asian treatment room/ day spa. Licensed massage therapist offers Hawaiian Hot Stone, Lomi-Lomi, Shiatsu, Swedish and Deep Tissue.

  • We totally enjoyed our stay in the 2 bedroom suite, it felt like a home away from home. We particularly enjoyed the cool nights that made it so easy to sleep. The one thing I might change is the rooster that sometimes thinks he is on west coast time.

    Response from Nicole:

Sorry about the rooster..... We live out in the country and though we don't have any roosters to speak of I know that in Hawaii I see feral chickens walking around from time to time..... Next time you come we will hope that someone will have caught that darn rooster and have thrown him in the stew pot.

  • We had a beautiful time here. The kindness started with a lovely plate of muffins, yogurt, fruits, granola, and eggs for breakfast. Enough for several days! No matter what we wanted to cook there was an appliance for it. We made fresh fruit smoothies with the blender a few times. The gardens are amazing! Even a koi pond in back. The bed is super comfortable and I slept deep every night. I loved sitting at the desk in the bedroom and writing in the evening w/ the nature sounds all around. We didn't have enough time to enjoy all that was offered for our enjoyment. The decor is a visual feast. The kitties are very sweet and we were entertained by them quite a few times! They have put together a great book of things to do. We enjoyed a beach that we hadn't heard of before (now one of our favorites to visit). I liked being up away from Kona at night. The cool air is great after a hot day at the beach. We miss Tofu and the older kitty who is a very funny cat! We would sit out on the bench by our door and get lots of love and purrs. As an artist I was very inspired by the environment! I would definitely stay here again! (next time for a little longer!)

Thank you, Brenda, for your kind review. I am so glad that you had a good experience. We have always enjoyed the peacefulness of Kaloko. It is such a special part of Kona. Please come and visit us again if you ever get the chance!

  • My family and I stayed at Nicki's guest house for 3 days and it was such a wonderful get away place. The house locates in the mountains but with easy access to downtown kona. The house itself is very cozy and equips with everything we need. Would definitely recommend it to friends!

  • We had a very nice time at Nikki's the place was great very nice people ,the only thing wrong was that it is an appartment for 4 people and the tiny dining room table was for 2 people . So it was difficult to eat all together at the same time .

    Response from Nicole:

The table actually seats 2 perfectly and 3 just fine. If you look in the master bedroom closet there are 2 folding chairs to bring out to the table if you have more than 2 people eating. There is also a wooden fold out tray to add extra space.

  • We had another wonderful time at Nicole's 2-bedroom vacation suite. They really know how to provide the right combination of attentiveness to your needs and respect for your privacy. Our family has always felt very welcome and comfortable here. It's a great place in a beautiful setting. Definitely recommend it to anyone.

  • Beautiful place to stay close to Kailua-kona. We truly enjoyed our stay in this delightful suite. The cool nighttime temperature meant we were able to sleep comfortably. My husband and I both took advantage of Nikki's massage skills and it was well worth it. Hoping when we come back that we can book here again. Mahalo

  • We absolutely loved our stay! The 2 bedroom was incredible. It was immaculate, tastefully and artistically decorated, very spacious, had an amazing view, and provided plenty of amenities. We would definitely recommend staying with Nicole and her husband!

  • Nicole and her husband Mike were very welcoming to our group of four and we had a wonderful stay. They went out of their way to make sure the house was ready before scheduled, and the breakfast Nicole left for the first morning was substantial and tasty. The property is very peaceful and quiet, and the house is beautifully furnished and comfortable. We would not hesitate to stay here again if passing through Kona in the future. Thank you Nicole and Mike for your hospitality!

  • Aloha! My husband and I are from NYC and booked Nicole's two bedroom apartment to celebrate our three year anniversary and his 30th birthday. We took the trip with one other couple, and the two bedrooms (one with a queen and the other with a full-sized bed) worked out perfectly for us. The pictures of the apartment posted on Airbnb were on point -- it is a lovely, beautifully decorated, spacious apartment with everything we could have hoped for and more! Although we didn't get a chance to meet Nicole, Mike was super friendly and was always available if we had questions. He even provided a yummy breakfast for us the first day -- papaya, yogurt and granola!

We took full advantage of the outdoor hot tub and outdoor shower, which were surrounded by a peaceful garden. We also really appreciated that there was a washer and dryer available in the apartment -- the many beach, hiking and other activities we enjoyed while on the island rendered it very useful! My husband, my friends, and I all loved this place and will look forward to the day we can visit again! Mahalo, Mike and Nicole!

  • Nicki has such a beautiful place! She runs a little B&B on her property in a separate building. We stayed in the upstairs apartment, which had a kitchen, two rooms and one bathroom. It was the perfect set up for my friends and I. Her property has many farm animals on them, unfortunately for us, we didn't get set aside enough time to take the tour of the property.

What's truly unique is her guidebook! She has so many good suggestions of things to do in Kona and close by! Without her, we wouldn't have known where to find the manta rays or sea turtles! We saw so many of them, we can't be more thankful for the thoughtful guidebook they put together for our trip!

The listing was perfectly located for us. We definitely recommend renting a car while on the Big Island, it's the easiest way to get around.

We had a late flight out of Hilo and Nicki was kind enough to grant us a late check out.

Thank you Mike and Nicki for your warm hospitality, we hope to be back!

    Response from Nicole:

I'm so glad you enjoyed your trip to the Big Island. Glad that the 'ol guidebook helped out! I simply placed in there all the places I like to go visit and enjoy. We must have similar taste! Please come back and stay with us anytime you like! Next time we'll have s'mores around the campfire!!! Aloha and A Hui Hou!

From Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. Love working in the hospitality industry. Have 2 vacation rental units in Kaloko Mauka on the Big Island. I work as a massage therapist at the Fairmont Orchid on a seasonal basis. I have a beautiful home treatment room on the facility of the vacation rentals, for guests to use, if desired. We raise Nigerian Dwarf goats and occasionally make chevre cheese. Love Hawaii and the amazing diversity of plant life here! Hope you will love it too!
