The Acorn is a self-contained apartment attached to a family home on the Dingle Peninsula. It is a four minute walk to one of many stunning, unspoiled beaches. The Acorn is an intimate open-plan hideaway with a kitchen, living space, double bed and work desk. It has a bathroom with an electric shower. Linen and towels are provided. It has a large selection of books, DVDs and vinyl but there is no TV. There is internet access. There is a safe parking space. Bicycles, surfboards and wetsuits are available on request.
We have just installed a stove in the space, so it will be proper cosy now!
Guests will be left to their own devices but we work from home so are usually here to offer help with travel plans or share our local knowledge.
Nestled between sea and mountains, the Acorn is on 3/4 of an acre, surrounded by mature trees. It is situated on the outskirts of Castlegregory village which is known for its fishing, water sports, surfing, hill-walking, and white sandy beaches, so much so it is known as the Gold Coast. It is also part of the Wild Atlantic Way, Ireland's first long-distance touring route. There are a number of fine eateries and pubs servicing the area, especially during the Summer season. There are two grocery shops, a pharmacy, a post office, a hairdresser's, beautician's, butcher's, laundrette and a gift shop.
There is a practically non-existent bus service (passes once a week!), so own transport is unfortunately mandatory! Unless you are alright hitching. Michael is, and never waits longer than 25 minutes for a lift.
The Acorn is a superb base from which to explore this incredible peninsula but it's also a great little space to enjoy some serious down time.
No public transport. :(
The Acorn was the perfect place to stay, situated in a beautiful country and away from all the loudness that a city creates. To put it simple: A wonderful place in a stunning location.
Our stay at The Acorn and the base it gave us for exploring the Dingle peninsula, was one of the highlights of our week in Ireland.
We were greeted with such warmth and hospitality and felt comfortable and at ease, Ailbhe and Michael really did make us feel truly welcome. A great deal of time and care has obviously been taken to make the Acorn a unique, charming and intimate space and it was a pleasure to relax and enjoy the record player and revel in listening to beautiful music as a storm raged through the night.
We appreciated the effort Ailbhe and Michael went to to provide us with extra cooking equipment and found the kitchen facilities were fantastic, thank you so much for the beautiful bread and breakfast provisions, we enjoyed them very much while watching the birds outside the window.
The Acorn really gave us a space in which to slow down, reflect, reconnect and a base from which to explore the beautiful natural landscape surrounding. Ailbhe and Michael's recommendation of beach walk and drive to Dingle were both excellent and we appreciated their advice.
We would not hesitate for a moment to recommend a visit to the gorgeous little Acorn and would love to come back and visit again ourselves. Thank you again Ailbhe and Michael for a wonderful stay.
The Acorn was the perfect little cosy spot for us. Amazing location, lovely hosts, well-equipped kitchen and so nicely done out. M&A could not have done more to make sure we were comfortable, and the breakfast supplies (including home made bread!) were delicious. A home away from home.
A lovely, self sufficient little home in an unbeatable location. Had everything we needed and our hosts were a lovely couple who looked after us really well. They even baked us a loaf of bread and drove us to and from town. Five stars!
Très beau logement ou nous avons passé Noël en couple. À proximité de la plage et des montagnes. Ailbhe et Michael sont très accueillants et sympathiques . Nous espérons retourner dans ce superbe endroit.
Had a perfect stay at Ailbhe and Michael's. A perfect, cozy place, couldn't ask for more, absolutely charming.
Thank you so much for a fantastic night. The location is great, the place comfortable and tidy. Michael and Ailbhe are very welcoming. We enjoyed fresh warm home made bread after a walk along the long deserted nearby beach and a pint in the pub up the road. We loved the records and spent a blissful evening in vinyl heaven enjoying a bottle of wine listening to the wind and rain howling around us outside. And I nearly forgot to mention the amazing bath! You'll just have to visit to appreciate it. Be warned Michael, we'll be back again once the stove is installed and may not leave!
Ailbhe and Michael have a lovely cottage like addition to their house with the ocean nearby. Their artistic touches were so welcome. We loved our stay and wish we could have stayed longer. It would be a wonderful place for a writer's / artist's retreat, complete with a typewriter, recordplayer, books, full kitchen and bath...we advise getting there before dark to help you find the place, though that is always true.
Wonderful and welcome cup of tea on arrival from Michael and fantastic homemade bread and jam from Ailbhe. Acorn is cosy and retro chic stylish with ace finishing touches - flowers, record player, candles etc - lovely place to explore a great part of the world. Only five mins walk from the beach too!
We spent four days at Michael's and Ailbhe's Acorn. It is a lovely, very cosy, sunny apartment with a huge bed, a fully equiped kitchen and many books and movies. Our hosts were very helpful with how to arrive and how best to make us feel comfortable at their place. They were so nice, we almost felt ashamed.
The Acorn is situated in walking distance to the beach, you can also walk to the next village where you can find a supermarket and nice restaurants and pubs. Anyway, to explore the Dingle peninsula, you should have a car.
