About this listing
It's irresistibly cosy, with a stove, books, and records. It's a 4 minute walk from the beach, and a 9 minute walk to the nearest pint.
Check-in: After 3 pm if we've had someone leave that morning
Check-out: 11 am if another guest is due to arrive that day.
Otherwise we're easy.
The Acorn is a self-contained apartment attached to a family home on the Dingle Peninsula. It is a four minute walk to one of many stunning, unspoiled beaches. The Acorn is an intimate open-plan hideaway with a kitchen, living space, double bed and work desk. It has a bathroom with an electric shower. Linen and towels are provided. It has a large selection of books, DVDs and vinyl but there is no TV. There is internet access. There is a safe parking space. Surfboards and wetsuits are available on request.
We have just installed a stove in the space, so it will be proper cosy now!
Guests will be left to their own devices but we work from home so are usually here to offer help with travel plans or share our local knowledge.
Nestled between sea and mountains, the Acorn is on 3/4 of an acre, surrounded by mature trees. It is situated on the outskirts of Castlegregory village which is known for its fishing, water sports, surfing, hill-walking, and white sandy beaches, so much so it is known as the Gold Coast. It is also part of the Wild Atlantic Way, Ireland's first long-distance touring route. There are a number of fine eateries and pubs servicing the area, especially during the Summer season. There are two grocery shops, a pharmacy, a post office, a hairdresser's, beautician's, butcher's, laundrette and a gift shop.
There is a practically non-existent bus service (passes once a week!), so own transport is unfortunately mandatory! Unless you are alright hitching. Michael is, and never waits longer than 25 minutes for a lift.
The Acorn is a superb base from which to explore this incredible peninsula but it's also a great little space to enjoy some serious down time.
No public transport. :(
Other Things to Note
Because of the thick walls in our house, and our rural position, internet can be a bit patchy, so if you are planning a Netflix marathon or staging an international webinar, the Acorn might not be the place!
We have kept the Acorn cat-free for a buddy of ours who is allergic. We would prefer if guests didn't smoke tobacco in there (it'll kill ya in the end!)
We have check in time set at 3 and check out at 11am. These are flexible when we don't have another guest arriving or departing. Check the calendar, or check with us!
We had a wonderful stay at this cozy cottage. The hosts were beyond helpful and so accommodating. The fresh baked bread was delicious and such a warm welcome. The location is fantastic, just a few minutes from a gorgeous beach. This was a delightful break from the touristy spots. Loved the cool touches of an old record player and the record selection was very good too! Feed the birds while you visit and kick back and watch them feast while you unwind!
The Acorn was a was a great place to base ourselves for a few days on the Dingle Peninsula. It had everything that you could need for a short stay. We were left with some delicious home made bread, and were given privacy by the owners to come and go as we pleased.
We highly recommend the Seven Hogs Hotel at the end of the road for their range of burgers, and you should also visit the West Kerry Brewery to sample some local ales! We would definitely stay here again, and would recommend it to others.
Our stay in the Acorn was lovely. The cottage is utterly charming and perfect for a simple and romantic get away. We enjoyed the hearty home made bread. We walked along the beach. We watched the sunset.
Our second time down to the Acorn and once again we just had a lovely time and felt really well rested after a few short days. After a warm welcome from Michael and the kids, we were delighted to see freshly baked bread on the kitchen counter waiting for us!
The cosy nature of the Acorn and it's close proximitiy to both the beach and Glentinassig Park make this place the ideal retreat away from city life. As with our first visit, time seems to slow down here and we'll definitely be back.
What a lovely place! Left Dublin stressed and as soon as we got down we started to unwind.
The place looks gorgeous and was a lovely fire lighting in the stove when we got down.
Ailbhe and Michael were a dream to deal with and the communication was excellent with Michael even suggesting local cycling routes.
Would definitely stay again and recommend to a friend.
I'd have to say this was my favourite place to stay during my travels to Ireland. Homey, clean, comfortable and beautifully decorated with lots of nice thoughtful touches. It is a lovely walk to a gorgeous beach and there is a nearby town for supplies. The delicious homemade bread was the centrepiece for my meals while staying there. Ailbhe and Michael were warm and welcoming and it was a pleasure to meet them and their family. Yes I would enthusiastically recommend.
About the Host, Ailbhe & Michael
Ailbhe & Michael are the parents of two small chublets. When they have the time to pursue other interests they like to make and watch films, dust down their dancing shoes, pick up a ping pong bat and faff about their gaff and garden.
