The Space

Check-in: After 3 pm if we've had someone leave that morning
Check-out: 11 am if another guest is due to arrive that day.

Otherwise we're easy.

The Acorn is a self-contained apartment attached to a family home on the Dingle Peninsula. It is a four minute walk to one of many stunning, unspoiled beaches. The Acorn is an intimate open-plan hideaway with a kitchen, living space, double bed and work desk. It has a bathroom with an electric shower. Linen and towels are provided. It has a large selection of books, DVDs and vinyl but there is no TV. There is internet access. There is a safe parking space. Bicycles, surfboards and wetsuits are available on request.

We have just installed a stove in the space, so it will be proper cosy now!

Guests will be left to their own devices but we work from home so are usually here to offer help with travel plans or share our local knowledge.

Nestled between sea and mountains, the Acorn is on 3/4 of an acre, surrounded by mature trees. It is situated on the outskirts of Castlegregory village which is known for its fishing, water sports, surfing, hill-walking, and white sandy beaches, so much so it is known as the Gold Coast. It is also part of the Wild Atlantic Way, Ireland's first long-distance touring route. There are a number of fine eateries and pubs servicing the area, especially during the Summer season. There are two grocery shops, a pharmacy, a post office, a hairdresser's, beautician's, butcher's, laundrette and a gift shop.

There is a practically non-existent bus service (passes once a week!), so own transport is unfortunately mandatory! Unless you are alright hitching. Michael is, and never waits longer than 25 minutes for a lift.

The Acorn is a superb base from which to explore this incredible peninsula but it's also a great little space to enjoy some serious down time.

No public transport. :(

  • Excellent accom- located close to a beach and not too far from Dingle and Inch beach where surf lessons take place each day.
Book this accom is you like relaxing, listening to records, reading from a random selection of books and enjoying the heat from the stove fire.
Home made brown bread and jam awaited us on arrival and some eggs for a quick breakfast the following morning.
    Highly recommended.

  • Myself and my partner really enjoyed our stay at The Acorn. It's great spot in lovely location. The homemade bread made for our arrival is a fantastic touch. I'd recommend this place to anyone (with a car) as the Dingle peninsula is fantastic. Thanks again to Ailbhe and Michael for the nice few days we had.

  • Great hosts, friendly but not obtrusive. The cottage is small, but just perfect to stay in. And the beach is great for walking.

  • What a place, what a time! Acorn Cottage is a true getaway. If we didn't have jobs and another life to get back to, we would have happily moved right in. Needless to say, we fell in love with its comfort, privacy, and loveliness. Minutes from a sweeping beach, a great place to begin and end your visit around the Dingle Peninsula. Bursting with warmth and true Irish hospitality - merci pour tout, Michael & Ailbhe ! Jen says; go relax !

  • Ailbhe & Michael were excellent hosts. So many thoughtful touches made the stay even more delightful (like home baked bread waiting for us on arrival and milk set outside our door in the morning). They were very helpful and communicative when we were planning our stay and made the decision to book with them quite easy.

The Acorn is as cozy as they come and we loved listening to our favorites on the record player and reading from the well stocked bookshelves.

It's a beautiful 2 mile (or so) walk into town, with the ocean to your right and picturesque fields to the left. The town itself has a few pubs, a cute pizzeria, and proximity to the gorgeous, shell-strewn beach.

We'd love to stay here again and would recommend to anyone spending time in Dingle!

  • The Acorn is a perfect nest for two! Cozy and perfectly outfitted! Michael and Ailbhe were wonderful and made us feel right at home and provided many extras! We especially enjoyed watching the birds at the feeder while eating delicious baked bread. The little wood stove takes the edge off the cool evenings and adds to the coziness! The Acorn is in a great location! It is within walking distance of a beautiful beach with great sand dunes and it is an easy drive to Conor Pass to visit the Dingle Peninsula. We really enjoyed our stay! A piece of home while away! Thank you!

  • Sinead and I had a lovely stay at the Acorn. Michael and Ailbhe were very welcoming. The cottage is very cosy with lots of little personal, homely touches. Plenty of books to delve into and music to enjoy when you're not gazing at the little birds chirping and feeding outside the window. The homemade brown bread was delicious, and the coffee, jam and eggs were a lovely touch too! The Acorn is a minute's stroll to a lovely, wind-swept beach and the drive up toward Dingle through Conor Pass is breathtaking. We spent most of our two days in Dingle which is a fantastic little seaside town. We rented bikes and cycled up to Slea Head and enjoyed the fascinating views of the peninsula, and generally treated ourselves to the delicious seafood in the restaurants and pubs dotted around the town. We were blessed with the weather. We would definitely love to come back and would certainly recommend the Acorn to anybody venturing down that neck of the woods!

  • My mom and I had a wonderful time at the Acorn! The location is breathtaking and our hosts were such a lovely and interesting family. We enjoyed relaxing at the cottage and walking to the nearby beach, but were also a near drive from Dingle and other attractions. Our hosts were also kind enough to leave us homemade bread and eggs which were delicious! This was definitely one of our fave places along our journey in Ireland, we miss it already and highly recommend!
