The bedroom was very clean and comfortable!
Our stay at Barbara's home was an amazing experience. Barbara's apartment in Yaletown had an exceptional view, and the location was a 15-20 minute walk to nearly every area in the downtown Vancouver area. My partner and I had a great stay to say the least. We now jokingly toss around the idea of moving to Vancouver one day. Just save yourself the mini-heart attack and don't ask about the cost real estate here!
As for Barbara's hosting experience, I have nothing but great things to say. I'm prolific traveler, and a person who frequents Airbnb often enough to know what makes a great Airbnb host. For the most part most hosts are decent--after all Airbnb is a business with a community feedback model that rewards hosts for great experiences.
However, I have never met a host with Barbara's hospitality, kindness and engaging personality. Barbara shared her heart with us, and endlessly sought to guarantee our trip was amazing--even if that meant cleaning our laundry when we ran out of socks, or roasting a chicken to celebrate our penultimate day in Vancouver. You won't regret staying here.
Barbara was very welcoming. The location is near everything - minutes either walking or taking the train to downtown. The views are beautiful, and the beds are quite comfortable. Barbara is a night owl so you might occasionally hear her at night moving around. Overall, the place is very nice, and Barbara is more than willing to have long conversations with you if you have the time.
Just a tip: Yelp is a huge help navigating the area, especially the many restaurants and businesses nearby.
Sorry if I exhausted you with a quick orientation when you first arrived, but I must say you both seemed quite animated when telling me about your respective work situations in Denver. Seemed to me that you were both up for chatting. I'm pretty good at sensing when guests feel uncomfortable, so I guess you were good at hiding it. It's a good thing you had not just flown from Europe! I was glad that you then both still had enough energy to go out to get food and walk around a bit on your first evening. Perhaps you got a second wind.
I can see how it is just as well that I organize my days and nights so that I can leave the common area entirely to my guests in the mornings. I had informed you that I do, in fact, also live here in my home, but I would have been totally fine if you had simply told me right away that you preferred to have no contact. I certainly don't have to touch base with my guests to see how they're doing if this is not what they wish, but then again, most guests would find it odd if I didn't. Too bad you didn't feel comfortable enough to let me know. Oh, well, just a few small tips for any future trips you may make with Airbnb.
Wishing you both well,
We stayed at Barbara's apartment for 7 days and really liked it. The location is perfect and view is amazing. The apartment is stylish and spacious. Barbara works till late and is not a morning person, so in the morning we usually had the place for ourselves. The only small dissapointment was that we couldn't use the 'free laundry', because Barbara thought my clothes were too smelly and we couldn't do it ourselves because the machine is in her private part of the apartment.
Oh, Jochem, I am sorry if I insulted you; however, the wet towel, socks, and other itms having travelled with you from Toronto, simply made for an impossible odour for me to deal with -- something that I have never been presented with before. I have always asked guests to leave their new laundry for me outside my door. I have never had an issue with this in the past. I don't think that asking you to take your rank-smelling laundry that you had brought from your previous location to a commercial laundry was unreasonable. And you know I was happy to do Noor's travelling laundry the night you arrived -- a small detail you have failed to mention. We could have discussed dealing with further laundry while you were here, rather than your sharing the matter publicly after the fact. It doesn't make me look good, and it certainly doesn't make you look good -- and the fact that you left out certain details so that others get only your side of the issue. I am disappointed that you would do this; after all, we did seem to have a good rapport, and you could tell that I am clearly approachable. Each time I saw the two of you, you seemed satisfied and pleased; little did I know that you were still seething over the smelly laundry incident.
I am also disappointed that you focus on this 'disappointment' rather than saying something about my lengthy e-mails to you regarding your time in Vancouver, and how you might best spend it. I also find it remiss of you not to mention the fine breakfasts you were able to enjoy each morning, and how I always asked you how your day had gone, and how everything was for you. This would have been the occasion on which to discuss further laundry with me, for example.
Again, I am sorry if I have harmed your dignity. And I am sorry that this is what you chose to stress as a rather larger detail than smaller. I am especially disappointed, since I enjoyed the outgoing and cheerful disposition you and Noor have. You are young and bright, Jochem -- next time, discuss your guest problems with your host, please.
I would like to restate that laundry is 'free' and that the service is also free -- within reason.
Again, I wish you and Noor happy travels and happy days ahead. :)

About the Host, Barbara G.
I teach English through a local government-run college to adult immigrants from countries all over the world. I also have a love of dance; in particular, Argentine tango, which has taken me to Buenos Aires and elsewhere in the world.
I am also an avid writer.
I often have guests stay with me from other countries, so when a friend told me about this site, I thought this would be a great way to invite even more interesting people into my home, into my life.
I look forward to meeting you. Cheers!
