This is a fully loaded flat - kitchen, bathroom, 2 bedrooms, dining area and living room. The washer and dryer are accessible at certain times and are shared with me (the host).
Culture, gardens, homey, cafes, 100+ gelato store, and shops just up the street. everything close by.
The house and everything in it!
The downstairs is "off limits" however, this is where the washer and dryer is and i can arrange a time for you to use it/ just give me a smidge of notice so I can make sure everything is available to you!
Interaction with Guests
I live in the basement flat. I don't need to interact (have a separate entrance) but are there if you need help with anything!
Everything is here and within walking distance! craft brewery to hang with friends, cafes/bakery for the morning with amazing blueberry cinnamon rolls, shops and the awesome Commercial Drive neighbour hood full of interesting finds and people!
Commercial Drive is an extremely community-oriented neighbourhood in the city. It used be known as Vancouver's "little-italy" but has evolved and matured over time. The atmosphere's alive like a summer street in Montréal with busy patios, socializing locals, and buskers on street corners. Despite the many things going on and the vibrancy, it is also a very relaxing and chill place.
Whatever you're into - you can find it here. Every type of restaurant catering to every type of diet, cool boutiques, fresh gelato, neighbourhood delis, lots and lots of cafes (old school italian & more modern), poetry, lots of activism, bikram yoga, and alternative lifestyles... If you really want to see the true Vancouver, this is the place!
There are always festivals going on to engage the community as well as impromptu music fests on sunny days at Grandview Park !
Public transport (skytrain and buses) are very close, skytrain a bit longer away than bus routes, but it is by a main street so buses are frequent - the taxi place is half way up the block too!
Other Things to Note
There is a pet fish, his name is Marco Polo. If you are only staying for the 1 night - no need to feed him! if a bit longer, he really does appreciate food every so often.
- all smoking outside please (nice porch area to do so, private)
- For larger groups we will be asking for a security deposit.
Info: Yes, we live in the basement suite but we hear very little sound- do not worry about moving around late at night or what have you (just be careful of music - other neighbors don't appreciate it bumpin' in the middle of the night!). Please make yourself as comfortable as you wish to be!
Me and my parents had a great time at Janels place. Janel and Brandon are great hosts. They were very helpful and it was also easy to reach them if there were any questions. It's a good location. The bus stops are just a few minutes away so it's easy to get to Gastown or Robson street without having to worry about finding a parking lot.
The RADanak house is easy to find. The decorations in the house are lovely. Me and my parents especially LOVED the record player - and the amazing records. The house was clean too. We'd definetly stay there again!!
Janel and Brandon were amazing hosts! The RADANAC house had more than enough to accommodate to the six of us and we were always happy to come to our new home away from home. The house is well furnished and the decor adds a nice personality. We loved how accessible it was to all of the popular streets and neighborhoods of Vancouver. Definitely would love to stay again next time we're in Vancouver.
We just spent one night here with kids (2 adults, 1 teenager and 2 kids under 5) and found it to be clean and comfortable and enough space for us all. We loved the terrarium and bonzai display in the sunny room.
Great stay! Easy check in and check out, beautiful house, and great communication, thank you Janel!
We decided to go on a last minute overnight to Vancouver and needed to find a place to stay for our family of 3. We have been to Vancouver several times before, always staying close to downtown (Gastown, False Creek, Yaletown) and wanted to try a different area. This house is located farther afield in a transitional commercial/residential neighborhood three blocks from Commercial Drive's assorted cafés and restaurants (5-15 minute walk to many).
The house was as pictured: clean with a comfortable, casual style and artsy decor. Love the whale bookends. Our 4 year old liked finding all of the animals hidden in the bonsai and feeding Marco Polo. A truly good deal at this price.
At first blush we liked the house more than we liked the location but we didn't really have enough time there for me to make an informed comment. Seems like it would be a good home base for a longer trip particularly if you have a car or bike.
Janel was very helpful, orienting us to the neighborhood and directing us to local restaurants. She was also kind enough to lend us an iphone charger when we realized that we'd forgotten ours.
Very chill and unique place. Easy to get to and close to attractions. Janel was more than inviting and made sure we were comfortable. Would definitely stay again!
