Interaction with Guests
I prefer to leave guests to enjoy their privacy. Unless any specific needs come up, you wont see me. A combination lock box has keys to the house, and you will get the combination when you book it. Hassle free checking in and out of the house. Just lock the door and leave the keys in the lockbox when you leave. The house is yours to enjoy for your stay. I live close by and am available via telephone, so I am only a phone call away if something should go wrong.
This is a quiet neighborhood. Mothers running with baby strollers and people walking their dogs is a common sight here. Because of the various hiking trails and river access close by, there is a variety of walks to chose from. The road does not have alot of fast drivers, and most houses in the area are occupied by older people, so things are pretty quiet. The Piihonua area is home of the most visited waterfalls on the Big Island. And they are all within walking distance from the house. If you prefer the beach, that is only a few minutes away.
The house is only a few miles from "downtown" Hilo, and is on one of the main avenues, that if you follow down the hill, will take you right into town. There is a HELE ON bus that runs by the house a few times daily. Please check bus schedule. The drive to the house is a one road drive, so its easy to find. There are a number of walks and hikes and access to the river all within one block, giving a walk in the neighborhood many options
We command respect for each other, the house, and any items in the house. If you use it, wash it or put it away, please and thank you! Do not take anything from the house, and leave it as you left it. We ask that people respect the quiet hours of 9PM-7AM.
NO SMOKING in the house please. Additional cleaning fee of $150 will be charged if this rule is violated.
No fires, unless its just a BBQ.
Be respectful to the neighbors, and please pick as many flowers in the yard as you like, but do not cut any branches. MI CASA ES SU CASA
Very convenient to downtown Hilo. Worked out perfectly for us since we made several tripsS to and from the Merrie Monarch festival.
Very cute house and extremely convenient to airport and downtown Hilo. Everything was simple and easy to confirm with Demian prior to arrival, making the stay very stress free. There was no TV or microwave, which was not a big deal, but would have been nice to know. Wifi single was strong and easy to log on. The house was very clean, organized and comfortable.
The property was generally as described. The two bedrooms are comfortable, and the kitchen is well-stocked with cookware. The stove is gas, which I prefer. It was very handy having access to a washing machine and clothesline. We enjoyed the beautiful Hawaiian mural and natural river stones in the large shower. The only real drawback is the common wall with another home; the people staying there were quiet, but I was constantly shushing my son out of fear of bothering them. Downtown Hilo is a few minutes' drive away.
the communication was horrible. we tryed to change the dates early and asked the host for a confirmation several times while using all possible communications forms. no success at all. we informed the host about our thoughts and asked for a refund. nothing happend and we lost all our money.
The most comfy beds!
We made this a last minute trip to meet up with our son and daughter in law from Oahu. The neighborhood is lovely with a close walk to the boiling pots. The kitchen had nice new dishes (set of 4) with plenty of storage containers. We appreciated the stainless steel pots and pans, open shelves and gas stove as we love to cook.
The house has been converted (we believe) into 3 units and the wall are not insulated for sound. The saving grace is that the bedrooms don't share a common wall with another unit. There is a small plant garden on the left side of the front yard and the rest is used for parking. There is no backyard.
The bathroom is interesting, with a wonderful large shower made with river rocks and lovely painted mural in it. The water closet is very small for anyone over 5' 5" tall. Since these rooms are also part of the laundry room we just closed the main door when anyone was using the restroom for more privacy. The living room is also the dining area.
This funky little place worked well for us for our 2 night stay, but the lack of any yard and no dishwasher a longer stay would have become uncomfortable. I would not recommend this house for anyone with small children as this is an older home, most of the electrical outlets are boxes on the wall just inches above the floor.
This funky place worked well for our funky family:-)
