A very homey and comfortable escape in the heart of DC. I recently repainted this place to fit the style I grew up in with my French family - a style that I also feel is appropriate considering the French design of DC by this guy called L'Enfant:P
This unit was entirely repainted and refurnished in September 2013. It's located right in the middle of the bustling Mt. Vernon Sq. It's perfect for a couple's escape or for a professional working or attending the DC convention center located 2 blocks away.
It's furnished with a smart tv, a full size bed, a desk, drawers. It's also located upstairs, removed well away from the busy street and foot traffic of people walking by the apartment.
On the good weather days, you can lounge out in the front and backyard with chairs, which is perfect for those warm summer nights to relax. And did I mention that you have good wifi all in and around the building?!!
Also, the fascinating and cultured neighbors add so much charm to the place, as they're always cooking delicious meals and enjoying the leisure DC has to offer. Don't be afraid to chat with them :)
As a guest you will have:
1. Smart TV with tons of channels, netflix and hulu viewing
2. Full size bed
3. Table for work and dining
5. Really fast & free wireless internet access
6. 1 bath/shower/toilet with 2+ big towels
7. 1 closet
8. A full kitchen with pots, pans, kettle, utensils, plates, spices
9. For security, you will have access to the code to a lockbox, which holds the keys to the apartment.
If you have a car, make sure that it has a permit to park in zone 2 or 6 to park on the street. Unfortunately, there's no designated parking, but there is usually room on the street to park. There is no designated parking - but during the middle of the day on weekdays and weekends, there's usually a spot right in front of the house available. Overnight parking is allowed without a permit, but once the permit hours begin, beware of the times. You can find out how much time you have to park on the street signs located on the street.
There's also parking lots and spaces that aren't restricted by hourly rates nearby the house. You have to just speak with the lot manager to strike a deal at times if absolutely necessary. In the end, I would recommend not using a car in DC. The metro is awesome and much more stress free.
Often, I've just double parked and put on my emergency blinkers and I never had a problem with someone asking me to move, unless I'm blocking in their car.
Interaction with Guests
I am traveling and working a lot in other places, so I will often not be available to provide the keys. But there is a lockbox which I will provide access to you for key access.
I am glued to my phone as well, so you can reach me at nearly any time for questions and concerns.
I love this neighborhood! Mt. Vernon is the very novel and thriving place to be. Almost every week, there's a new shop, restaurant, bar opening up in this area. The best part is it's growing fast with new to-dos without losing its classics (Just wander around 8th street and 12th).
I recently took a great picture of skyrises being built next to 3 classic Victorian looking classic houses. It's truly an amazing contrast of the old and new.
The Mt. Vernon Sq metro is just 2 blocks away and it's incredibly efficient. If you're staying for more than just a few days, I would recommend getting a DC Metro card. You can put money on the card and it works for the metro and buses all over DC. It's a great thing to have.
Also, there's a fantastic DC bike rentals. Check it out at DC city bikeshare.
PARKING: DC is not a forgiving place for parking. If you drive with a car, make sure to follow the parking rules labeled on the street signs. In front of the apartment, you're offered free overnight parking (after from 8pm to 8am), but the city enforces a 2 hour parking limit during the day. However, if you come with a car, there are free parking areas near the apartment - just speak with lot owner and you're usually allowed to strike a deal.
There's a zipcar stop on the walk towards Shaw metro on Rhode Island Avenue.
Lyft and Ubert are also taxi services that will come pick you up and drive you around. Drivers are always friendly and nice - great service too - just be aware of the prices it charges - which fortunately are usually a little bit lower than usual taxis, but they raise the rates during busy times. It's an app you need to download on a smart phone.
Otherwise, you can walk like a local and experience the city that way - ie the best way :)
Please do not smoke in the house and let me know if you want to bring any pets into the apartment. For the most part, it should be fine.
Inhaltlich immer nett.
Unterm Strich: Lage super top, Sauberkeit und Format toll, in warmen Jahreszeiten besser als in kalten. Räumlichkeiten groß und hell. Zugang evtl. schwierig, kalt.
The positive part of this place is that it was clean. Aside from that I don't think the price charged reflects the quality of it. It seems to me like someone needs to go in there and fix it up. The bathroom sink knob was loose and kept coming off, the towel hanger was broken, the window in the bathroom didn't shut all the way and there is no heater in there, the floor lamp in the room was taped together and looked very precarious, the rugs need to be cleaned. Aside from that when I arrived the place was cold and it took me a good 30 min to figure out that the only heating in the whole apartment was the heat setting of the air conditioner which was sort of loud. The mattress also needs an upgrade, it truly is uneven and uncomfortable. I would be able to live with all of this if it was super cheap but for $100+ it is disappointing. The host was also not very quick to respond to my messages and my concerns weren't addressed.
The location is good, the city centre is within walking distance, as is the metro entrance. But when we came in, it was a dissapointment after all. The appartment wasn't clean, and there is a huge draft through one of the windows. Since it was very cold, this was not very nice at all. Luckely, after we made contact with Jon, we got clean towels and bedding from Rukyat while we were out. The house was cleaned two days later. The last evening we got another surprise. Suddenly the outside doorlock was changed and we were not able to get in anymore. The downstairs neighbour was a huge help, she got in touch with Rukyat and after 3 hours of waiting Rukyat brought the new key! So, in the end everything worked out, but it wasn't a perfect stay. Jon gave us a refund.
Had an amazing time! Location was Perfect. Quiet, felt safe walking at night, close to everything. Super cute design. Metro can take you to party, or to the museums. Worth the location and recommend it highly!
Really well-located: walking distance from the White House and other attractions. The apartment was comfortable and Jon was a great host- he was available and helpful when we had questions. Everything was clean and easy to use.
Everything went just fine. The apartment is correct and the location is good. Jon was available when needed.
This studio cannot be beat when it comes to location, especially if you are a conference traveler. It is less than 5 minutes to the conference center (and metro station) as well as a really nice Safeway grocery store. There are plenty of restaurants around and Chinatown is just a few blocks down. We always felt safe walking around this neighborhood. The apartment was clean and cozy. The water pressure and hot water in the shower was amazing, especially during the unseasonably cold weather that we had. The check in and check out was seamless and though we never actually saw anyone in person, Jon was great about staying connected with us via email and text. We really enjoyed our stay and hope to come back again soon!
