This lovely, brand new studio, with full kitchen and bathroom, looks right out into our private garden. We are centrally located on a very quiet street, so most days you will wake up to the sound of birds singing. Enjoy your morning lounging on the deck with the birds.
The cottage sits behind our house and has two sets of french doors that open onto a wooden deck and overlook our flower and veggie garden. If you come in the height of summer, there are also plum, cherry, and fig trees, and a full raspberry bush that all produce plenty of fruit.
The cottage is a converted detached garage, with either of the french doors for its entrance, and there are two of us living in the main house. We are super queer and trans friendly!
Though we have a very sweet eleven year old cat and an even older and smaller super cute long haired Chihuahua, the cottage is pet and chemical free, to respect folks with allergies. So please no smoking or burning anything in the cottage. But feel free to give our animals love outside. They really like it.
We are located on a quiet street with plenty of free parking, and two blocks from multiple bus lines. It's a five minute bus ride to the MAX train. Between the bus and the MAX, you can get anywhere you need to go in town. We are also five minutes in a car and ten on a bike to Alberta and Mississippi, which both have tons of restaurants, bars, and shopping. The airport is an easy fifteen minute drive.
In walking distance there are two cafes, a brewpub, pizza, and a nice restaurant all in the Dekum Woodlawn area, which is a five minute walk. Also in walking distance is a laundromat, two yoga studios, two corner stores, and three beautiful parks - the Peninsula park rose garden, Farragut park, which has a view of Mt. hood on a sunny day, and Woodlawn park on Dekum. There is also a Safeway within walking distance and a health food store a five minutes drive.
The cottage is all yours! There is a full kitchen, a private bathroom with a claw-foot tub and shower, a brand new bed, a closet with plenty of storage, and a deck right outside the french doors.

My 83 year old mom and I stayed at Raki's absolutely lovely little cottage for 5 nights. It was a wonderful place to stay. Very simple, uncluttered and sweet. It was clean, private and quiet, which is exactly what we wanted. We came and went freely, doing fun things around Portland, and felt right at home. Raki has a little garden, very green, with some veggies growing ... we loved that because we came from Montana where the daffodils have barely started blooming!
The kitchen has minimal stuff for cooking, but we made it work for breakfasts on 4 mornings, and 3 evening dinners from the Green Zebra (natural food store and deli) nearby. We were even able to entertain my son and his partner for dinner one night because Raki had furnished the kitchen with 4 sets of plates, etc.
There is a comfortable double bed, where my mom slept. I used the futon sofa-bed in the living area, to sleep on. Plenty of blankets and a portable heater so we were cozy.
The only thing missing, for us, was a microwave. My mom uses a hot-pack for her muscles, and we had no way to heat it up. But we survived. ;-)
Our stay at Raki's little garden cottage was so enjoyable and she was a great host. I would definitely stay there again. We both loved it! Thank you, Raki.
The Cottage was a very cozy place to enjoy North Portland; slept 2 of us very comfortably. Also has a nice kitchen with plenty of cookware/utensils/dishes/cups, tea & coffee (also has a French Press available to use), plenty of pantry space, and a good sized fridge. Also, can't forget the dark chocolate bar waiting for us on arrival!
The backyard is chill as well; we picked some fresh veggies from the garden to top off our breakfast, and there was even some home-made kimchi in the fridge!
In the end, this is a cozy place to stay for a bit if you want to live like a local =)
Raki's Garden Cottage is a sweet, secluded space to stay in a quiet northeast neighborhood in Portland. She accommodated us well and communicated with ease to bridge our late in-coming flight to pdx. Parking a car on the street is super accessible.
The newly renovated building with the earthyness of the wood in the interior is lovely. The space is perfect for two people or perhaps one more that could sleep on the futon couch. The kitchen was great to have in the open lay-out. Raki provided assorted teas and coffee to prepare in a press-pot as well as some special treats. The deck and vegetable/herb garden just outside the double glass doors were beautiful. Raki checked in with us and made herself available easily through texting with me, which worked well with our busy itinerary and conferences. She is quite a charismatic person and a gracious host that will give you as much privacy as needed!
I will definitely recommend staying in the Garden Cottage and would enjoy returning on the next visit to Portland.
This was our first air bnb experience, and it was fantastic! The cottage was tastefully done and extremely comfortable. I love all of the little things that Raki thought to provide..... She even left a chocolate bar (salted almond which is my favorite!). Raki's cottage was perfect for our little family. It is located on a quiet street with plenty of parking, but it still has several restaurants and a great coffee shop within walking distance. We spent several days in the heart of downtown, and it was a nice reprieve to return to the super quiet neighborhood in the evening. Our one year old loved playing in the garden and eating tomatoes from the vine. Raki And housemate were extremely friendly and helpful, giving great recommendations for eats and shopping. We enjoyed our stay so much that we ended up staying an extra night......we will definitely return!
Raki's garden cottage is a very sweet spot in a great neighborhood in Portland! The cottage is settled in a garden and feels very private, clean, and cozy. It was tempting to spend the day lounging in the cottage, with a view of the garden, rather than exploring Portland. Like someone else mentioned, there were a lot of very thoughtful and welcoming details in the cottage.
Raki was also a very friendly and warm host and had a lot of suggestions about things to do in the area.
