This lovely, brand new studio, with full kitchen and bathroom, looks right out into our private garden. We are centrally located on a very quiet street, so most days you will wake up to the sound of birds singing. Enjoy your morning lounging on the deck with the birds.

This lovely, brand new studio, with full kitchen and bathroom, looks right out into our private garden. We are centrally located on a very quiet street, so most days you will wake up to the sound of birds singing. Enjoy your morning lounging on the deck with the birds.

The Space

The cottage sits behind our house and has two sets of french doors that open onto a wooden deck and overlook our flower and veggie garden. If you come in the height of summer, there are also plum, cherry, and fig trees, and a full raspberry bush that all produce plenty of fruit.
The cottage is a converted detached garage, with either of the french doors for its entrance, and there are two of us living in the main house. We are super queer and trans friendly!

Though we have a very sweet eleven year old cat and an even older and smaller super cute long haired Chihuahua, the cottage is pet and chemical free, to respect folks with allergies. So please no smoking or burning anything in the cottage. But feel free to give our animals love outside. They really like it.

We are located on a quiet street with plenty of free parking, and two blocks from multiple bus lines. It's a five minute bus ride to the MAX train. Between the bus and the MAX, you can get anywhere you need to go in town. We are also five minutes in a car and ten on a bike to Alberta and Mississippi, which both have tons of restaurants, bars, and shopping. The airport is an easy fifteen minute drive.
In walking distance there are two cafes, a brewpub, pizza, and a nice restaurant all in the Dekum Woodlawn area, which is a five minute walk. Also in walking distance is a laundromat, two yoga studios, two corner stores, and three beautiful parks - the Peninsula park rose garden, Farragut park, which has a view of Mt. hood on a sunny day, and Woodlawn park on Dekum. There is also a Safeway within walking distance and a health food store a five minutes drive.

Guest Access

The cottage is all yours! There is a full kitchen, a private bathroom with a claw-foot tub and shower, a brand new bed, a closet with plenty of storage, and a deck right outside the french doors.

Interaction with Guests

One or both of us will likely be around when you arrive. We have tons of suggestions of places to see in Portland. And if you need extra linens, kitchen supplies, or anything else just ask us!

The Neighborhood

Our neighborhood is super friendly and quiet, though easily accessible to public transportation and in walking distance to beautiful parks, restaurants, bars, and shopping.

  • Great place, definitely recommend and wouldn't hesitate to rent again! Had everything you could need and in a quiet lovely little cottage with a pretty garden just outside your door. Everything new and immaculately clean. A+++++++! Thank you Raki for a wonderful stay!!

  • Raki provided my partner and I (email hidden) to stay during our trip to Portland. The directions to the place were clear and direct. The cottage itself was very clean, warm, and (website hidden) of the cottage do not do it justice. You have to be sitting on the futon, basking in the warmth of the sunlight, to fully understand this beautiful space.

Additionaly, Raki mad the whole experience much easier by being a clear and open communicator (whether through the airbnb website or the packet you find in the cottage itself).

  • Raki's Garden Cottage was a lovely, private oasis in NE Portland that we thoroughly enjoyed during our 5 night stay in May. There was great light all day through the wall of windows, and the view to her garden was such a pleasure to wake up to. The location was convenient for biking, or driving. We also walked around quite a bit, including to the Peninsula Park rose garden, and a local brewery (The Breakside) which had our favorite beer of the whole week! (We didn't use the rail, but saw the station which was very close.) The space was neat, clean, modern and homey. Raki was a gracious and really helpful host. I loved the extra touch (email hidden)' and local tourist magazines and maps. I'd like to move in permanently, and would highly recommend staying if you're visiting the area!

  • Raki's Beautiful Garden Cottage is just that! It is a gem and an oasis in the city. It was clean as well as tastefully, creatively and comfortably furnished. It is oriented in such a way as to allow privacy for me and for her. It was very quiet as well. While Raki's and my paths did not cross much, I was graciously welcomed by her. I did not need to ask her for anything but would have felt no discomfort in asking should I needed to. Many thanks to Raki.

  • We had a great weekend stay in this cozy cottage. It was perfect for accommodating 2 cyclists and there were lots of great neighbourhoods to explore within 15 - 30 min. of riding. We appreciated the private access so that we could come and go as we pleased without disturbing anyone.

  • We had a lovely stay in Raki's garden cottage. She left maps of the city and neighborhood for when we arrived. Although we did not meet her in person if we had an questions she was very quick to e-mail us right back. We loved the set up of the cottage and loved the neighborhood. We brought our cruizer bikes and biked all over the city checking out different neighborhoods. We loved biking to the pearl district and mississippi ave but were happy that we were staying in Raki's neighborhood. We would stay there again.

  • Raki was very flexible with accepting the reservation last minute, which was quite appreciated. It was great arriving and having pamphlets about Portland with tips on where to explore along (email hidden). Everything was clean, comfortable and very quiet, highly recommend this place.

  • My friend Shannon and I took a weekend vacation in Portland, and were so happy to find Raki and her adorable cottage. Though we didn't meet Raki in person, she checked in early with us for our needs and was available via text for all questions. Her place was immaculately clean, a perfect size for two friends (with both the roll-out futon and a bed), and very near to lots of fun hangouts in the area. Love the mural in her backyard, and other artistic touches. Will definitely check in with Raki next time we're in PDX.

  • Raki was so great. So helpful and we had an amazing conversation when I first arrived. She was very accommodating with a few requests we had. Her place was cozy and very comfy. The bed was comfortable, the kitchen was well stocked and the bathtub was perfect for nice baths. Great backyard atmosphere and beautiful garden.

  • My 83 year old mom and I stayed at Raki's absolutely lovely little cottage for 5 nights. It (email hidden) to stay. Very simple, uncluttered and sweet. It was clean, private and quiet, which is exactly what we wanted. We came and went freely, doing fun things around Portland, and felt right at home. Raki has a little garden, very green, with some veggies growing ... we loved that because we came from Montana where the daffodils have barely started blooming!

The kitchen has minimal stuff for cooking, but we made it work for breakfasts on 4 mornings, and 3 evening dinners from the Green Zebra (natural food store and deli) nearby. We were even able to entertain my son and his partner for dinner one night because Raki had furnished the kitchen with 4 sets of plates, etc.

There is a comfortable double bed, where my mom slept. I used the futon sofa-bed in the living area, to sleep on. Plenty of blankets and a portable heater so we were cozy.

The only thing missing, for us, was a microwave. My mom uses a hot-pack for her muscles, and we had no way to heat it up. But we survived. ;-)
Our stay at Raki's little garden cottage was so enjoyable and she (email hidden). I would definitely stay there again. We both loved it! Thank you, Raki.

North Portland Yoga
I spend my time writing stories, teaching yoga at a nearby studio, and working in the garden. I also like to play music (we just got a piano, so if you play we can have a sing-a-long!), play cards, host dinner parties, and make and eat pickles. My housemate (animals included) and I love to hang out, and are also very respectful of private space. So whatever level of engagement you like will be honored :)
