It is a beautifully restored manor house. Lots of character and period features. It has two large ensuite bedrooms. The Old Hall Room has a King sized bed, an extra bed can be added for a child. See my other listing for The Orchard Room. The house is old but guests have every modern comfort, central heating and a log burning stove in the dining room.The prices are for 2 persons sharing a room.if you stay 2 nights or more it is £84 per night for 2. There is a single person supplement. It is £70 per person for single occupancy. Under 5's are charged £5 per night and under 12's £10 when sharing with their parents.
The guests are able to also use the lovely dining room, library area and sitting room. Outside there are open gardens to the front and a quiet walled courtyard to the rear which the guests have full access to.
Interaction with Guests
One of us always greet the guests and offer them a tea or coffee with a little treat. There are tea and coffee making facilities in both rooms. We give guests advice on the area if they wish. We serve breakfast and usually have a little chat. Unless guests like to chat more we leave them in peace to enjoy their stay as we have our own separate staircase and living room.
Kirkby Thore is a small village with one shop, church, school and bistro. It is a safe rural is situated in the beautiful Eden valley, yet only 20 minutes to Lake Ullswater and close to the Pennines.The hall is 2 minutes from the A66 and 10 minutes from the M6, Penrith and Appleby making it a very convenient stopover location.
There are mainline trains to Penrith from London, only just over 3 hours. There are trains to Appleby and buses to Kirkby Thore approx every 90 minutes. However car hire would be advised to have full access to this lovely rural area. It is possible to take the train to Penrith and hire a car there. There are many taxi firms in Penrith.
Other Things to Note
It is not suitable for persons with severe walking difficulties.
We expect guests to treat the house as they would their own home and be aware that there may be other guests staying.

I am a retired teacher who now runs a b and b in a historic house in Cumbria. David , my husband works part time as an engineer and also works in the b and b. We moved back to the Eden Valley after 30 years in St Bees, West Cumbria.We were both brought up in this area and are getting to know it again. We love travelling, particularly to Europe and the mountains but love cities too.We have 4 grown up children and one grandchild.
