Description

The space

We have a 1960's split level home with two bedrooms and an office. All bedrooms are located upstairs. We are looking to rent the spare bedroom for anyone coming in to see what Athens, GA is all about. The bedroom has a double bed, dresser, and closet. The guest bath is off of the bedroom in the hall. We have a large den and screened in back porch for relaxing while you are here.

We are located a mile from historic 5 points and about 10 minutes from downtown by car. The UGA campus is literally a stone's throw away and you can hear the cheers from Stanford Stadium on game days in the fall.

Our neighborhood is quiet with a mixture of professionals, families, and students. We have easy access to a nearby park and you are a short distance from UGA's intramural fields or the State Botanical Gardens if you would like to run or walk the trails. There are shops and a restaurant at the end of our street. If you go into 5 points, you'll find a few more shops and restaurants. Athens is known for its music, but our cuisine is also making a name for itself. Chef Hugh Acheson, as seen on Top Chef, has two restaurants in Athens. 5 and 10 is located in 5 points (1 mile from our home), and he has a hand in The National located in downtown Athens. We are the home of R.E.M, the B52s, and Widespread Panic to name a few. There are several venues to catch music, including the Georgia Theater and the 40 Watt, both located downtown.

Both the UGA bus and the Athens bus have a stop at the end of our neighborhood. Each will carry you into town or campus. There are also cabs available to/from downtown at reasonable prices if you do not have a car.

Our town has been hailed one of the best places in the world to visit and live.

Guest access

Bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, coffee maker, back porch, deck, couch in den, TV in den, dining room.

Interaction with guests

We are here if you are renting the spare bedroom. We try to be out of the way-either working in our yard or hanging out on the back deck when the weather is nice-so that you can have as much privacy as you need. If you don't want to interact with us, we are okay with that, but we are also happy to make suggestions about where to go in town and offer breakfast one morning while you are here.

The neighborhood

It is wooded and quiet. We are close to a park.

Getting around

UGA and Athens buses pick up and drop off at the end of the street, a short walking distance from our house. Cabs are available from downtown-just be sure to get in a yellow cab. We have gypsy cabs and there aren't any regulations on fares. You shouldn't pay more than $7.00-10.00 from downtown to our house per person. $10.00 is even on the higher side of fares.

Other things to note

All of our bedrooms are upstairs. We don't hangout up there much as we like our den with our couch and the back porch. We will sleep upstairs and will try to be as quiet as possible. We have an old house with squeaky wooden floors. If you are a light sleeper, we can provide ear plugs.

This was a great way to spend a weekend in Athens. It is minutes to the university and downtown. The house is in a nice neighborhood, close to sorority row.

Wonderful stay. Hostess was very responsive to emails when booking and texts before arrival. Home was great and she was sweet to show me other parts of the house I could use (TV room, back screened in porch). What I liked most was it felt like I was in their home and not just in a room fixed to be rented out. The bed was extremely comfortable and room was nicely decorated.

The hosts were terrific and made us feel right at home. Andy makes an amazing cup of coffee. They even had some breakfast items for us. Aside from the neighborhood, there was a park nearby for walking. Our schedule was slammed but we did get to have some great conversation. Highly recommend.

We contacted Angela and Andy the very last minute to book the room for a couple of nights and they kindly let us stay. The house was very nice, cosy and clean, as well as the room where we stayed. Andy helped us to reach some places in the city as we didn't have a car. They also shared some useful information with us. And the dogs were simply lovely! Thank you very much!

Live in Athens Georgia with my husband and our three dogs. My husband and I both teach and airbnb has provided a way for us to travel on a budget and see cool places. We have had a lot of positive experiences when booking through airbnb and want to provide a warm and inviting space for folks to travel to us. We are also hoping to add to our travel fund, so getting paid to share our home works out. We've lived here for over 15 years since coming to UGA for our undergrad degrees. Athens is a town that gets into your blood and you'll never want to leave. We are excited to share our home and town with visitors and will work to make your visit here memorable.
