We have a 1960's split level home with two bedrooms and an office. We are looking to rent the spare bedroom for anyone coming in to see what Athens, GA is all about. The bedroom has a double bed, dresser, and closet. The guest bath is off of the bedroom in the hall. We have a large den and screened in back porch for relaxing while you are here.
We are located a mile from historic 5 points and about 10 minutes from downtown by car. The UGA campus is literally a stone's throw away and you can hear the cheers from Stanford Stadium on game days in the fall.
Our neighborhood is quiet with a mixture of professionals, families, and students. We have easy access to a nearby park and you are a short distance from UGA's intramural fields or the State Botanical Gardens if you would like to run or walk the trails. There are shops and a restaurant at the end of our street. If you go into 5 points, you'll find a few more shops and restaurants. Athens is known for its music, but our cuisine is also making a name for itself. Chef Hugh Acheson, as seen on Top Chef, has two restaurants in Athens. 5 and 10 is located in 5 points (1 mile from our home), and he has a hand in The National located in downtown Athens. We are the home of R.E.M, the B52s, and Widespread Panic to name a few. There are several venues to catch music, including the Georgia Theater and the 40 Watt, both located downtown.
Both the UGA bus and the Athens bus have a stop at the end of our neighborhood. Each will carry you into town or campus. There are also cabs available to/from downtown at reasonable prices if you do not have a car.
Our town has been hailed one of the best places in the world to visit and live.
Bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, coffee maker, back porch, deck, couch in den, TV in den, dining room.
Interaction with Guests
We are here if you are renting the spare bedroom. We try to be out of the way-either working in our yard or hanging out on the back deck when the weather is nice-so that you can have as much privacy as you need. If you don't want to interact with us, we are okay with that but we are also happy to make suggestions about where to go in town and offer breakfast one morning while you are here.
It is wooded and quiet. We are close to a park.
UGA and Athens buses pick up and drop off at the end of the street, a short walking distance from our house. Cabs are available from downtown-just be sure to get in a yellow cab. We have gypsy cabs and there aren't any regulations on fares. You shouldn't pay more than $7.00-10.00 from downtown to our house per person. $10.00 is even on the higher side of fares.
Other Things to Note
All of our bedrooms are upstairs. We don't hangout up there much as we like our den with our couch and the back porch. We will sleep up there and will try to be as quiet as possible. We have an old house with squeaky wooden floors. If you are a light sleeper, we can provide ear plugs.
No guests, no parties, no smoking, no drugs. During the week, we request quiet hours after 10 pm. On weekends, please be respectful and quiet if coming in late. We have three dogs who are sweet and people friendly, please be sweet and pet friendly in return. Make sure house is secure before you leave. Renter will pay to fix or replace broken or damaged items.
Angela and Andy were great hosts with a lot of knowledge about good food in Athens. Their home was clean, cozy, and just a brief drive to downtown. If given the chance, we'd gladly stay again.
Also, be sure to visit the Botanical Gardens when you stay. It's so close, and a fun time at the price of free.
Angela and Andy (and their sweet dogs) were very kind hosts. They made sure we were comfortable and were a lot of fun to chat with. Check-in and communication was smooth, and everything was as described. The room is very comfortable and just a short drive from lots of attractions in Athens. They gave us just the right amount of privacy and were super laid back. We definitely recommend staying at their place!
The house is quiet and the bed is super comfy. I arrived in the early evening and after chatting briefly with my hosts, I headed into my room for reading. I let myself out in the morning and continued my trip. The 3 dogs are very well behaved; I didn't see much of them. The kitchen, as well as the bathroom are sparkling clean. There is a serenity about the house and it's a close drive to downtown restaurants.
I had to stay two extra days and they were very accomodating! Highly recommend! And their dogs are super friendly!
Loved my stay, Angela and Andy were very accommodating and were able to answer all of my questions.
Their home is within walking distance to UGA and many restaurants around town, would definitely stay here again.
This was a wonderful place! Cute neighborhood, near five points and downtown. The room was comfortable, quiet and the bathroom was clean. We couldn't have asked for more. The hosts were very accommodating and made great recommendations for new places to visit.
Angela and Andy were friendly and easy to talk to. The house was as described: comfortable bed, bathroom to myself and close to the UGA campus. Great place to stay.

Live in Athens Georgia with my husband and our three dogs. My husband and I both teach and airbnb has provided a way for us to travel on a budget and see cool places. We have had a lot of positive experiences when booking through airbnb and want to provide a warm and inviting space for folks to travel to us. We are also hoping to add to our travel fund, so getting paid to share our home works out. We've lived here for over 15 years since coming to UGA for our undergrad degrees. Athens is a town that gets into your blood and you'll never want to leave. We are excited to share our home and town with visitors and will work to make your visit here memorable.
