Welcome to our beautiful grade 2 listed Georgian home, birth house of the artist Sir William Nicholson, lots of history and interesting period details. Your room is a comfortable double with private facilities, you can use the lounge and garden. We have off street parking. Plenty to explore locally too.
This is a historic house, but also a lovely family home full of beautiful antique furniture and interesting detail. (The B and B business is already well established and has been awarded 4 stars by Visit England). We can be flexible and negotiate the price for longer stays.
We love to show guests around and are happy to let you explore the house, gardens and 9 room cellar! You have a private double room and shower room, also the private use of the upstairs lounge where breakfast can be provided if required for a small extra amount.
Interaction with Guests
We are happy to interact with guests as much as they want, equally we are happy to leave guests to themselves. There is an extended family here and we all come and go! We have plenty of local maps and information, if you are here to explore the area. We will do all we can to make your stay happy and comfortable.
This is a wonderful calm house in a quiet area, but only minutes away from the town centre. There are lots of restaurants and charming pubs within easy walking distance of the house.
The town is well served by both trains and buses.
Other Things to Note
Breakfast can be provided for a small extra cost. We have a friendly dog, but can easily keep her away if you aren't a dog person. We are happy to have well behaved pets to stay.
This is a no smoking house.
We had a lovely time at Nicholson House. On arrival we were made to feel very welcome. Rowan gave us the tour, explained where everything was and gave up her time to show me some good places to eat and to visit.
The house itself is beautiful! Our room was immaculately clean and had all the amenities (and more) you would expect from a B&B. The towels were lovely and fluffy and there was an abundance of toiletries for our use in the bathroom. We didn't really use the lovely adjoining living room in the end, but it was extremely comfortable. The whole house has a homely feeling with great mismatched, rustic decor. I loved the attention to detail that went into EVERYTHING!
Rowan and her family were very accommodating, replacing our tea, coffee and milk every day and offering us help whenever we needed it. We were given plenty of privacy but at the same time knew who to ask and where to go if we needed anything. Jess (the pooch) is sooooo cute and defiantly worth a cuddle!
Nicholson House is worth every penny! Cosy and comfortable stay! 5 stars.
"Adorable": ...This is the term that can describe my overall experience at the Nicholson House, in Newark. A beautiful house, with beautiful people living in it. A place full of joy, warmth and charm. Rowan and her family were simply exquisite. They were extremely, kind, helpful, and pleasant during my stay at their house. They were very polite and discreet, and let me stay for one more night in an extra room, since I needed a place to sleep for the next night. I really appreciated they're kindness and respectfulness towards me. They helped me giving me suggestions about the town, and even lent me a phone charger and a laptop charger, that I needed.
Being a musician, I really enjoyed playing Rowan's grand piano. It was really kind of her letting me practice, playing the piano in the house.
Like I said, everything was "adorable".
Thank you, for the beautiful stay.
Our hosts were welcoming and helpful with good recommendations for where to have dinner. The house is truly beautiful, steeped in interesting family history, and the room itself lived up to all our expectations. There are lots of little thoughtful touches like the sweets on the mantelpiece, slippers to wear and even little torches for any night time wanderings. We had a wonderfully comfortable time staying there and I heartily recommend it to others.
A perfect stay in a lovely house. We were very well looked after by kind and helpful hosts, lovely soft bed with tv and the nicest shower I've had for ages!
An absolutely beautiful house, in a wonderful place and the most welcoming hosts. Overall it was a brilliant stay, we couldn't recommend this place more. We stayed only a night but wish it could have been more! The room was lovely, clean and very comfortable. The hosts are ever so welcoming and made us feel at home the minute we stepped in the door. The breakfast was a real treat and made the stay even more special, their dog Jess was also great company along with the relaxing sound of the piano being played. A real gem which we will definitely be going back to!
The room was as pictured with a very comfortable bed. A continental breakfast was left outside for me as I had to depart early in the morning. The house was welcoming and full of character. Rowan was very helpful in answering several questions before my stay. Though I only stayed one night, I would definitely return.
A really warm and friendly welcome. Everything as described. Beautiful house perfect location, close to town. Although not in the room advertised it was spacious- the sofa bed really comfy. The grandfather clock de-
