The Space

This large, bright, and airy bedroom/bathroom suite sits above a two-car garage, separate and across a courtyard from the main house. With your own access through the garage, it affords you quiet and privacy in the heart of Portland's downtown Pearl District (NW side). The Pearl District has become a destination with art galleries, boutiques, interesting bars, tea and coffee shops, microbreweries, grocery stores, and restaurants: the complete urban experience. Three city parks are within six to eight short Portland blocks. Immediately in our vicinity are a 24 Hour Fitness, the Pacific Northwest College of Art, condos and townhouses. The neighborhood consists of rehabbed industrial and commercial buildings along with new construction.

Our courtyard is a lovely location to sip coffee or tea you prepare in your room or wine that you store in the room's refrigerator. The room has a queen bed, a desk, and club chairs in a sitting area with TV. You can come and go as you wish through the garage into the courtyard rather than the main house. We don't have to know you're there or we are happy to chat with you about the City and its sites. Check out (website hidden)(phone number hidden) parking space is available with the room but you may not need it unless you want to visit the Columbia River Gorge, Oregon's famed Pinot Noir region or Sauvie's Island (Portland's in-city agricultural island). The suite is 1.5 blocks from a street car stop. Walk to the Art Institute of Portland, the Chinese Garden, Old Town/China Town, Powells City of Books, Saturday Market, or to Center Stage at Gerding Theater. The street car takes you to soccer or basketball games, to the river front, Keller Auditorium, Portland Art Museum, Schnitzer Theater, the Japanese Garden in Washington Park, Portland State University, and Portland's many small theaters, restaurants, and distillery row on its hip East Side. Portland is a walkable city. Mass transit or car can take you to Reed College, Lewis and Clark College, and the University of Portland. The City and its unique neighborhoods are at your feet.

Note: rental rate and cleaning fee include 1% state tax. airbnb will be collecting 11.5% city and county taxes. Although we own a dog and cat, we keep them out of the suite. The room includes linen, towels, coffee/tea, refrigerator, soap, and parking space in the garage, if needed. The garage can accommodate a sedan or station wagon. A large SUV or truck would be a challenge, although a public garage is available about six blocks away.

Interaction with Guests

We greet guests when they arrive and typically see them off. Access to their suite through the garage is private so we see them if we're passing through at the same time. Otherwise, we respect the privacy of our guests but we welcome them to visit us in the main house if they see the lights on. We are present during our guest's stay and are accessible by email, text, and phone. We have had a glass of wine or a meal together if the guests are interested and available.

  • Steve and Alex were perfect hosts. They were available for anything we needed, but gave us our privacy as well. The suite was exactly as advertised, comfortable and cozy, and in a perfect location. We were able to walk everywhere we wanted to - but the streetcar was right near by if we needed it. I would definitely recommend this room!

  • We had a very comfortable stay in this nice room. The location is probably one of the best in Portland. Steven helpfully explained the details of using the apartment and garage. We will stay here again.

  • I really enjoyed my stay at Steve and Donna's Private Suite in Portland. The space was very clean, comfortable and quiet. The suite is centrally located for very easy walking within the Pearl District and to the Downtown, Old Town, and Nob Hill neighborhoods. It's only a little a bit farther walk to the Eastside. If walking's not your thing, the Streetcar stops very close to the suite, allowing easy access to the entire city.

Steve provided very accurate directions and upon my arrival he was waiting to direct me into the garage where I was able to park my car during my stay. Steve then showed me around the suite and gave me a nice introduction to the city of Portland. The neighborhood guide that Steve wrote includes very useful information about restaurants, brewpubs, neighborhood walks, shopping and more. The coffee they provided really hit the spot!

The suite is separated from the residence by a courtyard and deck, creating a very private atmosphere. Steve and Donna we're right "next door" if you needed them, but if you didn't, you can come and go as you please and never see them. Steve and Donna do have a dog and cat, but they are not allowed in the suite. So if you are not animal person you should not be concerned about their presence. I did get to meet their dog Billy by chance one night on the deck and he was very friendly. I wish I got to see more of him!

When visiting Portland, I highly recommend staying in Steve and Donna's private suite.

  • Steve and Donna provided the perfect place for our weekend trip to explore Portland. Due to a mix up in flights, we did not arrive to Portland until 10:45pm and were very understanding and still managed to greet us personally upon arrival.... which was very much appreciated.
There were some delicious snacks provided for us when we got there along with local coffee for the mornings to follow.
Steve and Donna's place was quiet, in a great location, very clean, and (website hidden) books, magazines and tour books were also available for our convenience.
We loved our stay and will definitely be staying here again on our next trip to Portland! Thank you for adding a great place to stay to our amazing weekend away!

  • Steve and Donna offered fun ideas for us while we visited Portland. We thought the suite was perfect for us - light, airy, clean, and convenient to all the things we wanted to do in the city.

The suite was surprisingly quiet as well. We look forward to our next visit with these wonderful hosts.

  • Steve and Donna are great hosts. Steve bent over backward to accommodate our early arrival. The Pearl District is a nice area to center a trip to Portland - everything is easily accessible, and there was a mass of information in the unit to help one figure out where to go, what to see. In addition the hosts were available to provide even more information!

The unit itself is perfect for two, easily accessible and immaculately clean. Morning coffee/tea supplies are provided - and a few snack munchies. We were in and out all the time so didn't have a chance to enjoy the sitting area or beautiful courtyard garden - maybe next time!

Originally from the East Coast, we have been in Oregon for 35 years, Portland for over ten of those. We enjoy Portland's cultural and culinary attractions, as well as hiking in the Northwest, especially with our dog, and traveling. We are happy to serve as hosts that welcome you and bid you farewell, or, because we like meeting people, to assist or guide you during your stay.
