Pearl District Private Suite

Other - Private room · Northwest Irving Street, Portland, OR 97209, United States

The Space

This large, bright, and airy bedroom/bathroom suite sits above a two-car garage, separate and across a courtyard from the main house. With your own access through the garage, it affords you quiet and privacy in the heart of Portland's downtown Pearl District (NW side). The Pearl District has become a destination with art galleries, boutiques, interesting bars, tea and coffee shops, microbreweries, grocery stores, and restaurants: the complete urban experience. Three city parks are within six to eight short Portland blocks. Immediately in our vicinity are a 24 Hour Fitness, the Pacific Northwest College of Art, condos and townhouses. The neighborhood consists of rehabbed industrial and commercial buildings along with new construction.

Our courtyard is a lovely location to sip coffee or tea you prepare in your room or wine that you store in the room's refrigerator. The room has a queen bed, a desk, and club chairs in a sitting area with TV. You can come and go as you wish through the garage into the courtyard rather than the main house. We don't have to know you're there or we are happy to chat with you about the City and its sites.

One parking space is available with the room but you may not need it unless you want to visit the Columbia River Gorge, Oregon's famed Pinot Noir region or Sauvie's Island (Portland's in-city agricultural island). The suite is 1.5 blocks from a street car stop. Walk to the Art Institute of Portland, the Chinese Garden, Old Town/China Town, Powells City of Books, Saturday Market, or to Center Stage at Gerding Theater. The street car takes you to soccer or basketball games, to the river front, Keller Auditorium, Portland Art Museum, Schnitzer Theater, the Japanese Garden in Washington Park, Portland State University, and Portland's many small theaters, restaurants, and distillery row on its hip East Side. Portland is a walkable city. Mass transit or car can take you to Reed College, Lewis and Clark College, and the University of Portland. The City and its unique neighborhoods are at your feet.

Note: rental rate and cleaning fee include 12.5% in local and state taxes. Although we own a dog and cat, we keep them out of the suite. The room includes linen, towels, coffee/tea, refrigerator, soap, and parking space in the garage, if needed. The garage can accommodate a sedan or station wagon. A large SUV or truck would be a challenge, although a public garage is available about six blocks away.

Interaction with Guests

We greet guests when they arrive and typically see them off. Access to their suite through the garage is private so we see them if we're passing through at the same time. Otherwise, we respect the privacy of our guests but we welcome them to visit us in the main house if they see the lights on. We are present during our guest's stay and are accessible by email, text, and phone. We have had a glass of wine or a meal together if the guests are interested and available.

  • Steve and Donna offered fun ideas for us while we visited Portland. We thought the suite was perfect for us - light, airy, clean, and convenient to all the things we wanted to do in the city.

The suite was surprisingly quiet as well. We look forward to our next visit with these wonderful hosts.

  • Steve and Donna are great hosts. Steve bent over backward to accommodate our early arrival. The Pearl District is a nice area to center a trip to Portland - everything is easily accessible, and there was a mass of information in the unit to help one figure out where to go, what to see. In addition the hosts were available to provide even more information!

The unit itself is perfect for two, easily accessible and immaculately clean. Morning coffee/tea supplies are provided - and a few snack munchies. We were in and out all the time so didn't have a chance to enjoy the sitting area or beautiful courtyard garden - maybe next time!

  • Steve has a terrific place in the heart of the fabulous Pearl District. It's spacious, immaculate, private, quiet and ideally located. The trolly and lots of great restaurants and shops are close. Steve has thought of every detail and goes out of his way to ensure a wonderful stay. This gets the highest rating possible. Look no further as this is THE place to stay when visiting Portland!

  • Steven was very thoughtful and responsive. The property was well equipped and clean. And the location is outstanding. It was nice to have a garage to park in.

  • This place was just what I needed for a quick trip to Portland for a conference. The suite, separated from the main house by a small courtyard, is very nicely appointed. Downtown Portland is easily walkable from the Suite, which is in the Pearl District. Steven and Donna were excellent hosts that genuinely cared about my comfort (they both asked if I liked the pillows) and I would happily stay here again.

  • The suite was just as pictured. It was quiet except for the streetcar noise which was infrequent and not at night. It is the city after all! The location was perfect to enjoy the Pearl and the downtown area is certainly within walking distance. There was lots of local information for guests though we did not need it as we have been to Portland many times. We saw Steven and Donna briefly and I am sure if we had needed more help, they would have been there! There were treats and coffee left for us too!

  • We loved our stay at the Pearl District Private Suite. It was very comfortable, clean, well lit and quiet. A great location to enjoy all of center city Portland by foot! Steve was amazingly responsive to our questions before the trip and during. There were flowers in the room and coffee to use when we arrived which was very thoughtful. We would love to return when we can!

  • I just returned from a wonderful experience at Steve and Donna's place (aka retreat). I came to Portland at a time where the weather was more rain than shine and I found their clean, safe, welcoming suite a great place to dry off, rest comfortably, and set off again to explore Portland. The location is walkable to downtown, SW & NW Portland, and very accessible to the Alberta area via public transportation. As a solo female traveler, being able to walk the very quiet area (similar to SOHO or Georgetown) without qualms was reassuring. They provided a comprehensive listing of things to do and restaurants in the area which was invaluable to a pretty clueless first time visitor to Portland like myself. They also made a conscientious effort to make my trip as good as possible (e.g. suggesting places to explore where I can avoid the rain). Definitely recommended for a private, warm, true B&B style of stay!

  • We were made to feel quite comfortable. Steve was an excellent host and provided plenty of information to make our stay in Portland an enjoyable one. I particularly appreciated them writing up details and in that sharing their favorite restaurants so that we had an array of options. We truly did have great meals and a great time!

  • Steven is a great host and I really like his place. It's a great location and has a comfortable, homey feel. I've stayed there several times and would recommend it to anyone looking for a clean, nice place in the Pearl. My only complaint is that his rates have increased a little over the past couple months making it less-competitive with similar options in the are.
