This large, bright, and airy bedroom/bathroom suite sits above a two-car garage, separate and across a courtyard from the main house. With your own access through the garage, it affords you quiet and privacy in the heart of Portland's downtown Pearl District (NW side). The Pearl District has become a destination with art galleries, boutiques, interesting bars, tea and coffee shops, microbreweries, grocery stores, and restaurants: the complete urban experience. Breakfast or brunch on the weekend is available, for example, at any of a dozen places nearby. Three city parks are within six to eight short Portland blocks. Immediately in our vicinity are a 24 Hour Fitness, the Pacific Northwest College of Art, shops, condos and townhouses. The neighborhood consists of rehabbed industrial and commercial buildings along with new construction.
Our courtyard is a lovely location to sip coffee or tea you prepare in your room or wine that you store in the room's refrigerator. The room has a queen bed, a desk, and club chairs in a sitting area with TV. You can come and go as you wish through the garage into the courtyard rather than the main house. We don't have to know you're there or we are happy to chat with you about the City and its sites. Check out (website hidden)(phone number hidden) parking space is available with the room but you may not need it unless you want to visit the Columbia River Gorge, Oregon's famed Pinot Noir region or Sauvie's Island (Portland's in-city agricultural island). The suite is 1.5 blocks from a street car stop. Walk to the Art Institute of Portland, the Chinese Garden, Old Town/China Town, Powells City of Books, Saturday Market, or to Center Stage at Gerding Theater. The street car takes you to soccer or basketball games, to the river front, Keller Auditorium, Portland Art Museum, Schnitzer Theater, the Japanese Garden in Washington Park, Portland State University, and Portland's many small theaters, restaurants, and distillery row on its hip East Side. Portland is a walkable city. Mass transit or car can take you to Reed College, Lewis and Clark College, and the University of Portland. The City and its unique neighborhoods are at your feet.
Note: airbnb will be collecting 11.5% city and county taxes, and 1% state tax. Although we own a dog and cat, we keep them out of the suite. The room includes linen, towels, coffee/tea, small refrigerator, shampoo, conditioner, soap, and hair dryer. The garage can accommodate a sedan or station wagon. A large SUV or truck would be a challenge, although a public garage is available about six blocks away. City of Portland Accessory Short Term Rental Type A Permit Number: (phone number hidden)-HO
Interaction with Guests
We greet guests when they arrive and typically see them off. Access to their suite through the garage is private so we see them if we're passing through at the same time. Otherwise, we respect the privacy of our guests but we welcome them to visit us in the main house if they see the lights on. We are present during our guest's stay and are accessible by email, text, and phone. We have had a glass of wine or a meal together if the guests are interested and available.
Easy access to public transit through the street car, light rail, buses and taxis.
You will have private access through the garage into the courtyard, up a flight of stairs to the suite. Come and go as you please. Out of respect for our town home's neighbors, please refrain from loud noises before 9:00 AM and after 10 PM. Minimum stay of two nights. Use the small refrigerator, coffee, and hot pot in the suite but do not cook there. Our friendly dog and cat are in the separate main house and rarely enter the suite. No smoking in the suite, courtyard, or garage.
Superb Environment and Hospitality
Living in your own small townhouse in the lovely Pearl District of Portland OR is the way to go, particularly with the warmth provided by the hosts and their dog, Billy. The property is between a street closed to traffic, and filled in with a variety of plants, and a clean, wide airy alley way. The hosts live in their townhome while, separated by a courtyard, you inhabit a fine set of rooms over the garage, next to the alley. With light on both sides, cross ventilation and a well appointed lay out, all was fine. There was a decent desk, a comfortable bed, lots of space and a well laid out bathroom. I don't know what expectations are for facilities for advanced snacking in an AirBnB listing; this one lacked an impervious surface to spill on, but had a large small refrigerator, etc, in a closet. It was fine.
A fine chair with good light was available for reading or watching TV. One could hear neighbors talking sometimes, possible when they were in their courtyards? but the overall feeling was one of serenity.
The hosting was effective. They made an effort to provide a welcoming atmosphere that was much appreciated.
What an amazing experience. Steve and Donna were more than accommodating and their private suite was exactly what we expected. Steve was very knowledgeable about the city and even provided us with a typed description of all the cool things to do in Portland! Super handy and it was like we had our own tour guide with us the entire trip. The suite had everything we needed and more. Thanks again for everything, Steve and Donna!
Excellent clean spacious room. Great bathroom. Lovely host who provided detailed information about the great Pearl District location. Guidebooks, cookies, coffee - everything we needed for a great Portland stay. I highly recommend this place. Parking too!
Highly recommended. The listing is 100% accurate in both description and photos and I agree completely with the other reviewers on this page. The room is clean, bright and comfortable. Most importantly the location is perfect for exploring the Pearl District. We were able to walk to anywhere in the Pearl in ten minutes or less. Portland city blocks are smaller than other cities I've been to, so do not be discouraged by locations ten or so blocks away. 23rd street was an interesting and pleasant 15 minute walk. Steven was easy to communicate with and offered helpful information about the room and the area. Great experience.
I had such a lovely experience staying with Steve and Donna. The room was immaculately clean and I had everything I needed: a fridge/freezer, a coffee maker (they provided wonderful local coffee and creamer), electric tea kettle, tv, and glasses/utensils. Wooden hangers in the closet and a very comfortable bed. I felt right at home!
The location is fantastic! It's clean, safe and upscale. Just a few blocks from the train station (walkable) and situated in the heart of the pearl district. A five minute walk puts you at powell's books, the food carts and all the lovely shops and restaurants this area is known for.
Finally, Steve and Donna were such wonderful hosts. They made me feel so welcome and offered recommendations on what to do and see. They even invited me to have dinner with them one night, which was a highlight for me. I loved getting to know them a bit better and hearing about portland through their eyes.
I highly recommend staying with Steve and Donna. You'll love it! And I will definitely reserve with them again the next time I'm in portland.
Steven was an incredible host that made our stay in Portland truly enjoyable. He was accommodating of our schedule and made sure that we had a lay of the land so that we could make the most of our weekend. The suite is well appointed, private, and comfortable. The location is amazing and offers close proximity to a number shops and restaurants. If I make it back to Portland, I would definitely stay here again.
Fantastic experience again. This was my second time staying here. The suite is separated from the main house with a courtyard, so I felt very comfortable coming and going. Everything in the suite is nicely appointed. I always wish I could stay a bit longer because I've really enjoyed exploring downtown Portland on foot and public transport.
Originally from the East Coast, we have been in Oregon for 35 years, Portland for over ten of those. We enjoy Portland's cultural and culinary attractions, as well as hiking in the Northwest, especially with our dog, and traveling. We are happy to serve as hosts that welcome you and bid you farewell, or, because we like meeting people, to assist or guide you during your stay.
