Set in tropical gardens on the shores of Sri Lanka’s stunning South Coast, Alfie's BH is the perfect spot for couples, families and friends to relax and unwind. White sands, swaying palms and the crystal clear waters of the Indian Ocean
Located in Talpe/Unawatuna, you’re in the ideal position to explore and discover this breath-taking stretch of coastline and awe-inspiring country. 10 minutes in a Tuk Tuk and you're on the popular Unawatuna beach taking in the sunset, cool drink in hand, 20 minutes and you'll be marvelling at the ramparts of the UNESCO World Heritage Galle Fort, 30 minutes and you're setting of from Mirrisa harbour in search of Whales & Dolphins. Alternatively, you can put down the book, flop out of one of the hammocks and step out, through your very own private access, on to the white sandy beach for a stroll! There’s also a protected rock pool, perfect for the kids to swim and the adults to dip.
If the thought of getting out of the hammock, or moving from the ambalama is too much to bear, no need to worry, our staff are on hand to ensure your stay is both comfortable and hassle free. Each morning they’ll rustle up a delicious breakfast of fresh tropical fruits, eggs (how you like them), toast, preserves and, more importantly, tea and coffee! Lunch and Dinner can also be requested, the curries are a must!
Alfie's Beach House has 3 beautiful bedrooms, all are en-suite (one with outdoor bathroom!), and come equipped with mosquito nets, overhead fans and air conditioning to ensure comfort and a good night’s rest. Our master-suite has a king size bed, the other two rooms have twins that can easily be made into queens if you desire. All are made up with the crispest of white linen, super indulgent pillows and blankets should you need them.
The main living space is an open plan lounge/dining room with a kitchen providing everything you need to try your hand at local cuisine, knock up a quick bite or learn from the staff how to make the perfect curry. The lounge has an amazing, L shaped, bright pink sofa; specially made for you to lounge on. You can even use it as a bed for the little ones, or those who’ve had one too many! We like to set the dining table up on the covered veranda so you can enjoy your meals with a cool sea breeze and the sound of the ocean. The house also has Digital Television (for the important matches), WiFi and a DVD player.
The tropical gardens are where you’ll spend most of your time at Alfie's. We’ve built an ambaloda on the beach front, strung up some hammocks, scattered some cushions and provided some banana lounges, the rest is up to you (with some help from the staff...of course!).
Interaction with Guests
We are available and contactable locally if the guests should need any assistance. Otherwise guests are encouraged to kick back and enjoy the villa, being looked after and all that the local area has to offer.
Talpe is known as the 'golden mile' of the South Coast, with the most spectacular villa's, restaurants, boutique hotels Sri Lanka has to offer, not to mention the close proximity to the UNESCO Heritage Galle Fort.
Tuk Tuk's will be arranged for you by our 24 hour staff. If you want to wonder out and catch a bus we will of course show you the way. The bus stops are just a stones throw away.
Other Things to Note
Please do contact us if smaller numbers of guests for special offers available
A lovely villa on gorgeous clean private beach. Villa is simple and rustic in design, with open verandah looking over the yard which is shaded by coconut trees. The highlight is reading or sleeping or G&Ts on the ambalamba overlooking the beach and swimming in the aqua waters which are 27C all year round. The beach itself is narrow and has large reef which provides a type of natural beach pool for paddling or lying in. Wave strength varies with seasons so be careful to check the status if you wish to swim with little ones.
We really enjoyed the Sri Lankan breakfasts and there are a few other excellent restaurant options along the beach for lunch or dinner.
Piers the owner was attentive, keen to meet all our requests and fast to respond. Roshan our host did a great job and helped us with any and all our booking needs - tuk tuks, taxis, and whale watching trips. Thoroughly enjoyable few days.
Alfies beach house was a wonderful experience. The villa is very clean. The staff are very friendly, accommodating and speak good english. The staff cooked us beautiful breakfast every morning you must try the traditional Sri Lankan breakfast! Yum! The views are beautiful of the ocean it helps you to relax immediately. The ocean is safe to swim n snorkel. The Talpe restaurant is 2 doors down serving beautiful meals and cheap drinks and their pool is available to swim in. We loved our stay at Alfies i would highly recommend it

We (family of 5 people) spent our x-mas vacation at this gorgeous place. Alfies Beach Villa is a cosy and beautiful house right next to a Paradise-Beach. In the garden sometimes a monkey-family is jumping around and you have the choice to rest in one of the hammocks or to chill in a great daybed overlooking the ocean!
At the beach there are 2 great places for dining and having a drink: Talpe Beach Club (run by a very nice German Lady) and W-Beach (Italian stye Restaurant). As the Indian Ocean is a bit rough for swimming we went about 200m south to a protected swimming area. The staff (Sanka, Somni and Korula) is very nice and helpful - one evening we had the possibility to enjoy a marvellous Seafood-BBQ by Sanka. Also Piers is a very caring and cooperative host!
Nevertheless there are some downsides:
The street noise is audible in all sleeping rooms and is really breaking the sleep.
There were some cockroaches in the rooms - we bought a spray and had to use it several times.
Beware of the Tuk Tuk drivers and local people! They are sometimes really annoying and try to force you to use their services.
But all in all it´s a wonderful place to stay and we had a relaxing and restful time there!
We rested at the villa Alfie in late October 2014. Lovely place, very secluded. A large area in front of the house, comfortable place, stunning views of the ocean !! The staff is very friendly. Detected two downsides:
- very noisy in the rooms that overlook the road
- swimming outside natural sea pool very dangerous. Especially in the afternoon. At least at this time of the year.
I would advise the owner to focus on the guests of this fact, and show the place on which to enter the water is not recommended. Waves really very treacherous and pull into the ocean. It is very difficult to swim out.
Everything else is fine.
Thank you Piers.

Thank you for your review.
We are very happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay at Alfie's Bech House, and we have taken your feedback on board.
The sea along the West and South coasts should always be treated with causation at this time of year. We are fortunate to have the protected/swimmable area, however during the 'monsoon' even these protected areas should be observed prior to entering. We will be sure to advise guests of swimming conditions at each visit. Thank you.

Beautiful house in an amazing location. Beach was great for the kids, and the hammocks were great for afternoon naps. The staff were very helpful regarding things to do in the area and made our stay very comfortable. Overall we had a wonderful time.

I have lived and worked in Sri Lanka for over 4 years. Alfie is our son, and the house was built as a dedication to him and took over a year build into the perfect relaxing vacation villa for people visiting Galle. The location is a gem along the Southern stretch, and we are happy to be able to offer people to stay at affordable prices which are otherwise high end in this area so that they can enjoy Galle as much as we do.
We are on hand to answer any questions or guide you in anyway we can.
