Set in lovely surroundings in rural South Cumbria, I can offer two rooms, one double and one twin, including Full English or Continental breakfast. This home is a great place from which to visit both the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks, and a number of historic towns and villages.
This is my family home with a lovely garden and stunning views in every direction and is quiet and peaceful, ideal for a relaxing retreat.
There is a choice of a double room or twin bedded room. The double room, with far-reaching views, has an en-suite shower and sink, whilst the twin room has exclusive use of a downstairs shower room. Both rooms share a toilet/sink room. Tea and coffee making facilities are in the rooms and towels are provided. The rooms are £50 each for two or more nights and £60 for a single night, the extra £10 to cover cleaning cost.
I can offer a choice of full English or continental breakfast with vegetarian options available. Please let me know your requirements when booking. There is a good range of local pubs and restaurants nearby, serving food all day. Something to suit every taste from fish and chips and Pizza Express to fine dining.
The house and garden are not suitable for babies and toddlers.
In the summer months, the conservatory is a delightful space in which to eat and relax, however during the cooler months you might take advantage of the sitting room with its log burner and TV. There is plenty of space to be private should you want that. All of this is negotiable.
Interaction with Guests
I am happy to spend time with you if you would like that and I can provide maps, ideas of places to visit or walk, packed lunch or be your guide on a day out if I have no other commitments (There would be a reasonable charge to cover fuel and additional food. I would also need some notice to shop for food for packed lunches)
I welcome guests from all over the world who wish to explore the North of England. This peaceful neighbourhood has lovely walks from the doorstep, both the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks are within 20 miles drive, and the Cumbrian coastline is only 5 miles from here. There are also a number of historic houses (Sizergh Castle and Levens Hall within 2 miles), tourist attractions (Heron Corn Mill, South Lakes Wildlife Park), interesting towns and villages (Kirkby Lonsdale, Kendal, Grange-over-Sands and Cartmel) and a world-famous bird reserve within easy travelling distance.
This is a rural location, with a bus service running 3 times during the day between Milnthorpe and Kendal. Oxenholme Lake District mainline train station is about 5 miles away. I am happy to provide a collection service from the station free of charge if required. Having a car would be an advantage, but staying here for a couple of nights without one is possible
Other Things to Note
I have a well-behaved boxer dog, who loves to be everyone’s friend, and for that reason, I would want to do some negotiation before welcoming other pets to my home.
My preference would be to host people who are part of a couple or a group of friends, whatever gender. Single women travellers would also be welcome.
I would expect guests to treat me and my home with respect. It is a non-smoking house, but you could do so in the garden. Please check in after 4.30 pm and check out by 10.30 am. I will negotiate around this if you would like that.
Heather was an absolutely amazing host and by far the best airbnb we have ever stayed at. We got very spoilt with our english breakfast, the rooms were lovely and clean and she was very knowledgeable on all the directions and drives of the Lake District. It felt like a home away from home especially having Amber the dog there! It was difficult to part, we will definitely be visiting again soon! I would highly recommend this place!
This was our first time using Airbnb and Heather was the perfect host: welcoming, warm and friendly – she even sat and chatted to us over a glass of wine in the evening, which was lovely! The room was beautiful, complete with an en suite shower, complimentary toiletries, bath robes, comfy chairs and hospitality tray.
Plus, we were treated to a delicious home-cooked breakfast in the morning. I've stayed in professionally run B&Bs which aren't even half as good. We stayed just the one night as we were on our way up to Scotland, but hope to stay again for longer in the summer to see more of the Lakes.
From the time she greeted us at the car on our arrival (in fact, even before we arrived with advice on restaurant booking) Heather was a delightful host - friendly and helpful. Our accommodation was comfortable and classy and we always felt welcome in Heather's lovely home. Breakfast was excellent. The location was peaceful and ideal for local walks as well as access to the Lake District. Highly recommended!
Our stay at Heather's was amazing in every aspect. She met our dietary requirements and prepared a delicious breakfast for us before we set off. She made us feel welcome right from the beginning. She accomodated to our needs even when we had an early start. Amber was lovely, very friendly and well-behaved. This was our best Air BnB experience ever! We look forward to staying at Heather's again.
A warm, friendly stay in a lovely rural location yet within easy reach of Kendal, Morecambe Bay, The Lakes and much more. Heather did everything possible to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable, the room was spacious, cosy, well equipped with far-reaching views over the surrounding countryside.
Amber, the boxer dog, also made us very welcome and was very happy to share her home with us.
The breakfast was excellent with plenty of fresh fruit to accompany cereals toast and a wonderful full English, which we thoroughly enjoyed, the excuse being that we were doing some strenuous walking, honest!
I am happy to heartily recommend this to anyone as a great place to stay.
Heather was a wonderful host. It was a great place to stay after our 24 hour plane trip from Australia. She helped us relax as well as gave great advice about the places we wanted to visit in the Lakes District and the Yorkshire Dales as well as great places to eat. Her home is very well located for visiting this area. It is also very quiet with lovely country views. Breakfasts were amazing and Heather accommodated my dietary needs. She provided all things that she thought we might need and made our stay very special. We were treated as friends, not just guests. Thank you Heather.
Heather's home is everything the photographs suggest and more. The setting is serene, the views quite delightful and the room (we were in the "double")is airy and spacious with plenty of drawer and wardrobe space. Heather provided the necessaries for us to make tea/coffee, plus supplying some "goodies" and bottled water.
Heather is a warm, obliging and considerate host, with a wealth of local knowledge to assist us in how best to use our 4 days in Cumbria. Her breakfasts of cereals, fresh fruit (raspberries and blueberries from her own garden!) PLUS the "full English" set us up for the day.
On our final morning we had the privilege of joining Heather and Amber for their morning walk up the hill where we got the view over to Morecambe Bay.
This was perhaps our best B'n'B experience ever. We would love to have been able to stay longer. Superlatives fail me!
I am an outgoing and positive person who enjoys the country life. I love walking, canoeing and travel. Being a host on Airbnb has brought a wonderful dimension to my life and I have enjoyed hosting people from all over the world.
