Set in lovely, quiet surroundings in rural South Cumbria. This home is a great place from which to visit both the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales. I offer one double room and one twin- bedded room and a full English or continental breakfast.
This is my family home with a lovely garden and stunning views in every direction and is quiet and peaceful, ideal for a relaxing retreat.
There is a choice of a double room or twin bedded room. The double room, with far-reaching views, has an en-suite shower and sink, whilst the twin room has exclusive use of a downstairs shower room. Both rooms share a toilet/sink room. Tea and coffee making facilities are in the rooms, toiletries and towels are provided. A small fridge is available for perishable goods. The rooms are £60 each for two or more nights. The price for a single night is negotiable on enquiry, depending on the time of year.
I can offer a choice of full English or continental breakfast with vegetarian options available. Please let me know your requirements when booking. There is a good range of local pubs and restaurants nearby, serving food all day. Something to suit every taste from fish and chips and Pizza Express to fine dining.
The house and garden are not suitable for babies and toddlers.
In the summer months, the conservatory is a delightful space in which to eat and relax, however during the cooler months you might take advantage of the sitting room with its log burner and TV. There is plenty of space to be private should you want that. All of this is negotiable.
Interaction with Guests
I am happy to spend time with you if you would like that and I can provide maps, ideas of places to visit or walk, packed lunch or be your guide on a day out if I have no other commitments (There would be a reasonable charge to cover fuel and additional food. I would also need some notice to shop for food for packed lunches)
I welcome guests from all over the world who wish to explore the North of England. This peaceful neighbourhood has lovely walks from the doorstep, both the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks are within 20 miles drive, and the Cumbrian coastline is only 5 miles from here. There are also a number of historic houses (Sizergh Castle and Levens Hall within 2 miles), tourist attractions (Heron Corn Mill, South Lakes Wildlife Park), interesting towns and villages (Kirkby Lonsdale, Kendal, Grange-over-Sands and Cartmel) and a world-famous bird reserve within easy travelling distance.
This is a rural location, with a bus service running 3 times during the day between Milnthorpe and Kendal. Oxenholme Lake District mainline train station is about 5 miles away. I am happy to provide a collection service from the station free of charge if required. Having a car would be an advantage, but staying here for a couple of nights without one is possible
Other Things to Note
I have a well-behaved boxer dog, who loves to be everyone’s friend, and for that reason, I would want to do some negotiation before welcoming other pets to my home.
My preference would be to host people who are part of a couple or a group of friends, whatever gender. Single women travellers would also be welcome.
I would expect guests to treat me and my home with respect. It is a non-smoking house, but you could do so in the garden. Please check in after 4.30 pm and check out by 10.30 am. I will negotiate around this if you would like that.
We loved staying at Heather's. It was so cozy and comfortable. She was very considerate and thoughtful and gave us outstanding advice and information about the area. We really appreciate all her extra help that she gave us and bonding with Amber. Breakfast was especially good with fruit. We would come back anytime.
Heather's house is lovely! Spotless, comfrotable and very convenient (with a car, of course). We loved playing with amber the dog and you have to eat the black pudding at Strickland Arms! Possibly the best meal of our trip (to be fair we didn't eat out much, but ita still very good by any standard)!
Heather was a very gracious and generous host and we loved the short chats with her after breakfast every morning. At the same time she respected our privacy and we felt very comfortable in her home.
Remember to save some of that sausage from breakfast for amber the dog!
Heather has a lovely house and it is all that the photos describe. She made us a lovely breakfast each morning and had all the amenities that we needed for our stay. Very helpful providing maps for all of the places we wanted to see in the Lake District.
We used Heather's beautiful home as our home base for our Lake District holiday. Initially we felt like it might be too far south for easy access to the Area but we quickly realized it was perfect distance for any destination within the area. We loved playing with Amber (the boxer), who is a sweet natured, kind dog that was very gentle with our 8 month old son. From the moment we arrived Heather was very accommodating, she provided literature and recommendations on what to do in the area. She offered up her beautiful home and garden on a day of inclement weather and was delightful company. Next time we are in the area we will be back there for sure.
We, myself, wife and children, felt that Heather and her dog "Amber" welcomed us. We also had very nice holidays at her house which is located near Lake District and Yorkshire Dales. Heather is nice lady and her breakfast is so nice! And her house was kept tidy and we felt to stay like our home. Amber was friendly to us, and my children enjoyed to play with her so much! We would like to stay her house again!
We really enjoyed staying at this rural location in the Lakes District. It was so peaceful and calm. Heather is a very welcoming host and her room is very comfortable and spacious. The bed is comfortable and a good size. The breakfast was brilliant, you couldn't hope for better and it set us up well for our day of adventuring. Heather's gorgeous dog Amber is hard to resist and you find yourself playing frisbie at odd times. I highly recommend this stop as Heather is the perfect host. We will definitely be back if we find ourselves in the Lakes District again.
Heather was an absolutely amazing host and by far the best airbnb we have ever stayed at. We got very spoilt with our english breakfast, the rooms were lovely and clean and she was very knowledgeable on all the directions and drives of the Lake District. It felt like a home away from home especially having Amber the dog there! It was difficult to part, we will definitely be visiting again soon! I would highly recommend this place!
I am an outgoing and positive person who enjoys the country life. I love walking, canoeing and travel. Being a host on Airbnb has brought a wonderful dimension to my life and I have enjoyed hosting people from all over the world.
