Set in lovely surroundings in rural South Cumbria, I can offer two rooms, one double and one twin, including Full English or Continental breakfast. This home is a great place from which to visit both the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks, and a number of historic towns and villages.

The Space

This is my family home with a lovely garden and stunning views in every direction and is quiet and peaceful, ideal for a relaxing retreat.

There is a choice of a double room or twin bedded room. The double room, with far-reaching views, has an en-suite shower and sink, whilst the twin room has exclusive use of a downstairs shower room. Both rooms share a toilet/sink room. Tea and coffee making facilities are in the rooms and towels are provided. The rooms are £50 each.

I can offer a choice of full English or continental breakfast with vegetarian options available. Please let me know your requirements when booking. There is a good range of local pubs and restaurants nearby, serving food all day. Something to suit every taste from fish and chips and Pizza Express to fine dining.

The house and garden are not suitable for babies and toddlers.

Guest Access

In the summer months, the conservatory is a delightful space in which to eat and relax, however during the cooler months you might take advantage of the sitting room with its log burner and TV. There is plenty of space to be private should you want that. All of this is negotiable.

Interaction with Guests

I am happy to spend time with you if you would like that and I can provide maps, ideas of places to visit or walk, packed lunch or be your guide on a day out if I have no other commitments (There would be a reasonable charge to cover fuel and additional food. I would also need some notice to shop for food for packed lunches)

The Neighborhood

I welcome guests from all over the world who wish to explore the North of England. This peaceful neighbourhood has lovely walks from the doorstep, both the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks are within 20 miles drive, and the Cumbrian coastline is only 5 miles from here. There are also a number of historic houses (Sizergh Castle and Levens Hall within 2 miles), tourist attractions (Heron Corn Mill, South Lakes Wildlife Park), interesting towns and villages (Kirkby Lonsdale, Kendal, Grange-over-Sands and Cartmel) and a world-famous bird reserve within easy travelling distance.

Getting around

This is a rural location, with a bus service running 3 times during the day between Milnthorpe and Kendal. Oxenholme Lake District mainline train station is about 5 miles away. I am happy to provide a collection service from the station free of charge if required. Having a car would be an advantage, but staying here for a couple of nights without one is possible

Other Things to Note

I have a well-behaved boxer dog, who loves to be everyone’s friend, and for that reason, I would want to do some negotiation before welcoming other pets to my home.

My preference would be to host people who are part of a couple or a group of friends, whatever gender.

  • We had a lovely night with Heather and her friendly Boxer dog Amber. The bedroom was delightful and the location stunning. Breakfast looking out over the countryside was very special - nothing was too much trouble for Heather. We would highly recommend this B&B. We were only staying for one night on our way to Scotland, but it would have been a wonderful place to stay longer, on the very edge of the Lake District for walking or exploring.

  • We had a lovely few days with Heather and her gorgeous boxer, Amber. A beautiful big room with sweeping views, a super-comfy bed and a sumptuous breakfast in the conservatory. We felt like we were spoilt rotten !! Heather offered some fantastic local knowledge which really capped off our short stay in the stunning Lakes District. Highly recommended !!

  • We had a wonderful one-day-stay in this house with Heather. The rooms are clean, nice and wonderfully decorated. Heather was warm and helpful all the time. And the breakfast we had in her sun-filled dining room was absolutely beyond compare. We would definitely choose here again should we come back.

  • Everything about our stay with Heather was enjoyable. Heather's communications beforehand were ideal and she was an ideal and friendly host. The accommodation was very comfortable, spacious and peaceful. The location was excellent - near to Kendal and to the South Lakes coast, with beautiful walks from the door. Finally - we both really enjoyed the breakfast, especially being able to eat it in the conservatory.

  • This BnB provided more than we could have hoped for, and was reasonably priced considering the high quality accommodation and great service from Heather. We were in the area to take part in the annual Great North Swim, and accommodation near the lake was all fully booked so we looked a little further afield and chanced upon this little treasure. Heather was very welcoming and accommodating to me and my friends, and her boxer dog Amber is a little sweetie. Beautiful house in an idillic setting, and Heather provided a delicious breakfast in the conservatory in the morning. She also gave us good tips about a great local pub whose food very satisfying after our swim! The place was so nice that my parents who were visiting decided to cancel their second night elsewhere in favour of staying with Heather. If I'm in the area again I'll definitely choose this place first!

  • My friend and I planned to go to Grasmere and Windermere but we did not choose to live in town. Instead we chose Heather's home because we also like the countryside. It turned out to be a very good choice. We really enjoyed our stay at Heather's home and felt so lucky to have Heather and Amber, her lovely friendly dog's, company. Heather was so nice that she offered to pick us up from the railway station as well as driving us to nearby restaurants and the bus station. She also cooked us an amazing full English breakfast which gave a good start of the day :) We are truly grateful for what Heather has done for us. Also Heather's house is very tidy, cosy, well-decorated with spectacular views. We couldn't love it more. Everything was so perfect. We would definitely recommend this to our friends and family.
As for the transportation, even it seems a little far away from the towns in Lake district, it is actually very convenient, especially with Heather's help. So it would be a lovely experience to see both the countryside and those major towns.

  • My girlfriend and I stayed with Heather over the bank holiday weekend in May and couldn't have asked for a better experience.

Upon arrival, Heather, and her wonderfully affectionate and energetic Boxer dog, Amber, were waiting to greet us and show us around. After we'd settled in, Heather offered to show us the local area and took us both on an hour-long country walk with the dog, which was lovely.

The house was set in a stunning location, with some of the best views of the English countryside I've seen. Inside, Heather's home was as neat and tidy as it was tastefully decorated. Our bedroom was warm and cosy and well-supplied with tea facilities, chocolate biscuits, towels, dressing gowns and shower creams - far beyond our expectations.

Each morning Heather served us a delicious and hearty cooked breakfast, taking into account my girlfriend's dietary requirements. Again - exceeding our expectations.

We only stayed for two nights but didn't want to leave. Heather did a fantastic job of hosting, and Amber kept us entertained with her boundless character. I can't recommend the place enough.

  • This was one of our best AirBnB experiences in the past 3.5 years of doing AirBnB! Heather and Amber (her adorable and loveable Boxer) were wonderful to stay with. From the very first email exchange to Heather's detailed directions on how to arrive, we knew it was going to be a good weekend. And it only got better once we arrived. Her house is on a beautiful piece of land with a peaceful garden in the front and cows in the pasture on the side. The room is very cosy with all that you need - towels, extra blankets, robes, maps, lists of things to do, even a toothbrush in case you forgot yours! There are also chairs under the windows that make perfect reading spots - we did that for a few hours one day. The breakfast was also delicious with cereal, yoghurt, fruit, bread and of course a traditional fry-up that will get you going for your hikes around the lakes. On top of all of this great stuff is Heather herself, who can recommend nearby walks as well what is the best of the lake district to see. She is also incredibly lovely to talk to and has traveled extensively, which shows in the fact that she has thought of everything. Also, her boxer Amber is very sweet - my partner who is scared of dogs ended up in the garden playing with her. I really cannot recommend this place more, especially if you are like us and live in London and are looking for a real relaxing escape.

  • This was our first Airbnb experience, so we weren't sure of what to expect. To our delight, Heather ensured us an easy and uplifting experience! Surrounded by plentiful greenery and tranquility, we enjoyed a wonderful stay with Heather and Amber, her obedient and loving pit bull companion. Not only did she take care of us, but she directed us towards all the activity we could do during our time in the lake district. A very gracious and generous host! We parted with two new friends, and a promise to return.
