Set in lovely surroundings in rural South Cumbria, I can offer two rooms, one double and one twin, including Full English or Continental breakfast. This home is a great place from which to visit both the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks, and a number of historic towns and villages.
This is my family home with a lovely garden and stunning views in every direction and is quiet and peaceful, ideal for a relaxing retreat.
There is a choice of a double room or twin bedded room. The double room, with far-reaching views, has an en-suite shower and sink, whilst the twin room has exclusive use of a downstairs shower room. Both rooms share a toilet/sink room. Tea and coffee making facilities are in the rooms and towels are provided. The rooms are £50 each.
I can offer a choice of full English or continental breakfast with vegetarian options available. Please let me know your requirements when booking. There is a good range of local pubs and restaurants nearby, serving food all day. Something to suit every taste from fish and chips and Pizza Express to fine dining.
The house and garden are not suitable for babies and toddlers.
In the summer months, the conservatory is a delightful space in which to eat and relax, however during the cooler months you might take advantage of the sitting room with its log burner and TV. There is plenty of space to be private should you want that. All of this is negotiable.
I am happy to spend time with you if you would like that and I can provide maps, ideas of places to visit or walk, packed lunch or be your guide on a day out if I have no other commitments (There would be a reasonable charge to cover fuel and additional food. I would also need some notice to shop for food for packed lunches)
I welcome guests from all over the world who wish to explore the North of England. This peaceful neighbourhood has lovely walks from the doorstep, both the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks are within 20 miles drive, and the Cumbrian coastline is only 5 miles from here. There are also a number of historic houses (Sizergh Castle and Levens Hall within 2 miles), tourist attractions (Heron Corn Mill, South Lakes Wildlife Park), interesting towns and villages (Kirkby Lonsdale, Kendal, Grange-over-Sands and Cartmel) and a world-famous bird reserve within easy travelling distance.
Despite being in a rural location, public transport links are good, with a bus service running 3 times a day between Milnthorpe and Kendal, and easy access to Oxenholme station. Although having a car would be an advantage, I am happy to provide a collection service from the station if required.
I have a well-behaved boxer dog, who loves to be everyone’s friend, and for that reason, I would want to do some negotiation before welcoming other pets to my home.
My preference would be to host people who are part of a couple or a group of friends, whatever gender.
This was our first Airbnb experience, so we weren't sure of what to expect. To our delight, Heather ensured us an easy and uplifting experience! Surrounded by plentiful greenery and tranquility, we enjoyed a wonderful stay with Heather and Amber, her obedient and loving pit bull companion. Not only did she take care of us, but she directed us towards all the activity we could do during our time in the lake district. A very gracious and generous host! We parted with two new friends, and a promise to return.
This is my first time staying at B&B and Heather is the first person that I selected from B&B air by her friendly photo and reading the introduction of herself. I can feel that she's a nice person and yes, when I first met her. She's a nice person as I thought. She left me with a very beautiful memory and experiences at Lake district.
She has a beautiful house with a very lovely and friendly dog. Amber is adorable. She loves to play with us and spend time with people. Our bedroom and the whole place is very clean and has a lovely decoration. I had a very good stay at her place.
I got a warm welcome from Heather. She cooked us a delicious dinner, and including a nice apply pie. She spend time with us and I enjoyed it very much.
I wish I could have few days more at her place. I told to my boyfriend that we will definitely find time to visit her and Amber again in summer time. We miss her and Amber already!
It almost felt hard to say goodbye to an old/new friend after just two nights at Heather's place! Heather has a lovely huge place, and provided many thoughtful details (like choc bars & tea/kettle in the room and many comfy towels!). We would have been reluctant to get out of the spacious room with its lovely skylights and even some reading corners, save for it being in the beautiful Lake District! Heather describes it as being 'rural' but it was not difficult at all to find. We also loved her marvelous breakfast spread (often not needing lunch after that!) facing the green fields outside the house. Thanks Heather (and Amber) for a lovely time!
We really enjoyed our stay at Heather's. We received a warm welcome by Heather and her beautiful dog, and were made to feel immediately at home and relaxed. Heather made amazing breakfasts that set us up for the day and her breakfast room has wonderful views over the countryside. We enjoyed local eating places (17 in Milnthorpe and the Strickland Arms up the road near Sizergh Castle) as well as local walks which were really pretty. Heather is a lovely person and we recommend her and her home highly.
Heather struck a masterly balance of warmth with
leaving-us-to-it-ness, and was very generous in integrating our dog into the mix with her sweet little Boxer, Amber. She also cooks a triumphant breakfast. Our room was large and bright; skylight windows, our own sink and shower, tea-making facilities and reading chairs served to make it a very pleasing and private space to be in. Normally when we've been to the Lakes we've stayed closer in, but we found the distance from Heather's was not onerous and encouraged us to explore some bits we'd never been to before. Staveley, btw, is a great little village nearby with a very splendid cafe called Wilfs, a bakery, and, as it turned out for our timing, a NW beer festival!
A very good guest house with a kind host and a lovely dog.
We lived in a double room which is large and clean. The lady in the house helped us a lot when our car was blocked in the Kendal car park, after we called her for help, she arrived us in 15mins and picked us to her house. The next morning, she dived me to get my own car. I was so grateful for her help.
We came all the way from China to experience the lake district, and Heather's place is marvelous and sensational! It is cozy, comfortable and warm! Besides, the view is amazing with the peaceful atmosphere.
Heather is such an elegant and beautiful lady who has selflessly offered so much help to us, and we really appreciate it! Her dog Amber is so cute and adorable, and is really friendly!
I am sure everybody that has the chance to visit Heather's place will be amazed and attracted by everything there.
Heather, we really appreciate your help and hospitality, and hopefully we will have the chance to visit you with more friends and relatives next year!
Wow! Heather has her own little slice of heaven. The setting is beautiful and Heather is a wonderful host. We thoroughly enjoyed our short stay with Heather and Amber. The weather was also perfect which of course made the whole experience that much more enjoyable. Amber is extremely well behaved and a very loveable dog. We felt very privileged to be Heather's first AirBnB guests.
